Helena, wonderful blooms. How nice to see a Chachamaru bloom.
Your 1st bloom, is that Blushing Bride?, whatever it is , it's a beauty.

My Blushing Bride tried to open this morning. I don't know what to make of all the deformed 1st blooms
I;m getting. And now, deformed blooms on my no Mai too after they were normal yesterday.
My top bloom was fine but the prettier dark pink one was all messed up.

This bloom is from my Weird Saz sds, the one on the front porch last yr, the prettiest of all my blooms.
This is a lighter color, not the almost turquoise like last yrs blooms. I like it anyway cause I love the pattern.

My Fuji no Sora cross finally bloomed today. These blooms not true to my original bloom in 09. They
could change though so I'll just wait and see.

Adina - So glad you found this thread and reposted your pretty blooms! They are beautiful, but not nearly as cute as that grandson of yours! :-)

Debra, Helena, & Jackie - Drooling over all your beautiful blooms! What a sight for sore eyes! Not much in the way of blooms here at all. My indoor vines must be resting up for the next big bloom flush or dying back. LOL! And my outdoor blooms have been pelleted by rain, so pretty sad to see no MG blooms here currently.

Jackie - My first bloom or two often come out deformed too. But luckily, subsequent blooms will be shaped as they should. :-) Many of my crosses don't come true from seeds. Actually most won't be exactly like the mother vine, so it's always a surprise to see what each year brings. Thank goodness for photos to preserve those blooms forever! :-)

Helena - Love your volunteer! :-)

Debra - Love your little Fuji bloom! Nice color on that one!

Becky, You're so right about crosses. I have enough sds I can try again to get the no Sora cross later.

Helena, love your last bloom you posted that came out of the Choco Mix, a stunning bloom.

I'm showing pics of the rest of my blooms with my newer camera, I can get better close ups but on some the color seems to be a bit lighter. Like on Lav-plum

Nice blooms everyone!

Debra - I love your Youjiro/Fuji (spoked) blooms! Especially that light lavender one! What beautiful blooms all of them!

Jackie - I agree.

Y'all - I am pretty much over the name game. Seems many don't come true from seeds because of being crossed or a recessive gene shows up in future generations. I can honestly say that probably the majority of mine will not come true from seeds. Many will be crosses and some will show other characteristics that didn't show up in the original vine. To me they are probably better categorized by Youjiro, Kikyo, Akatsuki (Dawn), Hama (Beach), Heian, Hige, and the rest fall into a descriptive series such as Fujishibori (speckles), Blizzards, or etc. The ones that do seem to come close to true may continue to be labeled by the Japanese name, but my experience has been that many are likely not true either. I've gotten seeds in the original seed packets from Japan and still got some surprises! Which of course is the wonder of I. nils, IMHO! Love those surprises!

Species names are the only true name and even then, some rare seeds may be a cross between species. http://protist.i.hosei.ac.jp/Asagao/Yoneda_DB/E/species/hybrids.html I know many here have gotten seeds labeled one thing, yet got something totally different or unlike the mother vine. So ... are names really a good indicator of a vine cultivar ... Especially for I. nils? Probably not. That's my personal opinion about the name game. Maybe that is why Kyushu University assigns their vines numbers instead of names! LOL!
