Let's See New Lilies Sprouting #4

Nineveh, NY(Zone 5a)

It definately does look like suncrest. If it is I don't know where it came from! =)

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I love it when that happens.

I got these hinged trellises from HD both to secure the tomatoes and separate them from the blooming flowers in our front garden. I think I blew the whole budget when I brought home 7 of them. Wish I'd gotten more. Sturdy and very attractive. Oh, and there is not need to tie because they can be pulled through the cross-pieces.

They really hold up as good dividers.

I like the HD selection for those types of items.

Anastasia is blooming but can't get a good photo of her. Also White Henryi blooming today! Just not easy to get the down facing ones! lol

Believe it or nor, Nanny, I got great shots of WH by lying on my back under the plant and shooting up. It looks gorgeous that way.

Anastasia I got lying on my tummy and using a zoom lens.

Of course, you could reasonably argue that only a nut would lie on her back or stomach in a garden under a plant to get a pic. I plead guilty to that.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

LOL.....if I could I would but they are both in the back of a mixed bed! Hopefully an Anastasia bud on the side will open so I can get it! I can stand under her...she is taller than me!

A dedicated photographer gets the shot no matter what. :-D

Lilium Emerald Temple. I wish you could smell it. Another out of commerce lily. The arrival of orienpets seemed to doom trumpets, but I got this from B&D years ago, and I just love it.

I really love the way they are one tone on the outside and another on the inside. The stems are strong, and they get no disease. I hope they make a comeback.

Mattsmom, what an amazing picture of your lilies, and are those delphiniums behind them. Nice color combo.

Donna, nanny, momo, ge, and Moby, I have lily envy, LOL. What a beautiful set of pictures of some wonderful lilies. I'm going to have to win the lottery to get all these lilies that I now want.

(Mary) Anchorage, AK(Zone 4b)

the Lily Garden still sells trumpets.

Yes, those are delphinium. Thank you for the kind words. I just love everyone's photos & have been eagerly awaiting bloom time.

Mstella, I don't need anymore enablers, there are enough on this thread already, LOL. I checked out their web site yesterday. I'm in BIG trouble.

Mattsmom is no slouch herself at taking photos. It was one of her daylily shots that started my headlong acquisition spree this year. :-D

TLG does indeed sell trumpets, but some of the older ones that I prefer, like Silver Sunburst (which I got from Old House Gardens), Emerald Temple (which I got from B& D), and Amethyst Temple are hard to come by. Fortunately White Henryi and Lady Alice are still available. I contacted TLG when I was trying to find AT, and they had Purple Palace instead, and offered it to me. The temples and sunbursts simply seem to have been pushed out of the way.

Donna, your Emerald Temple is beautiful! I appreciate your mentioning about the strong stem feature--I was wondering about that. I missed the boat on this one from B&D and regretted ever since. I agree, the Temples and trumpets in general seem to have been put on the sideline and I don't like it. Thankfully, there are those like you, NALS and many regulars in this forum that will keep the interest in trumpets! Your Amethyst Temple is beautiful also!

Thank you roosterlorn (what a great name!) I was so grateful to get ET from B&D. It is particularly strongly stemmed. I think that the problem is that the colors are considered too mild by many people. I do understand - I added several reds to my garden last season!

Here is a clump of them. The tomato tape that you see on a couple of them is not to support them, but to pull them away from the sharp blades of miscanthus sinensis Morning Light.

mattsmom.....I love that yellow lilly!

ET is gorgeous Donna!

Nanny, they are gorgeous.

Each time we walk out the door, we're met with the light perfume of our lilies. Either I'm getting very forgetful or there are too many lilies, because I don't remember planting some of the beauties that are coming up this year. And I don't think we can have too many lilies.

DonnaMack: Thanks for the full view of ET. Lets see if B&D can come up with somthing for me. Are you doing any cross pollenating?

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

B&D tend to take things out of circulation to increase their stock. If you email them (Bob and Dianna) they will answer you. I have never tried to cross pollinate. I do grow other peoples' seeds. The North American Lily Society has a seed exchange that includes dozens of crosses, some of them fascinating. Lazy people like me just buy the seeds.

Nineveh, NY(Zone 5a)

Any ideas on a name for this one? Just starting to open today.

DonnaMack: I recently joined NALS and ONE BIG REASON for that was the seed program. Because I like trumpets. I've been 'around the horn' so to speak with the commercially availabe lilies for the last 10-15 years and I keep coming back to those trumpets. I guess we all get to point with lilies where we always want something that we can't get or is not available--LAs and OTs are so prominant in the marketplace they are no longer a challenge to me. We can always get those. Its that challenge of the unknown--of what might be! Donna, you had a post in Feb. I believe about NALS seed program. I joined NALS the next day!!!
