Daily Butterfly Pictures #87

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I have a couple of false indigo for the silver spotted skippers and have had quite a few off and on of them.

Released two BST yesterday and one today so far. I moved the cage out of the shop into the shade on the deck; and the warmth seems to be speeding them up. We don't anticipate any rain so I am misting them every other day. Found three more 2nd instars so someone is still active.

How neat. I'm so ready to see some caterpillars here, but so far I've found none. I'm excited to know I've BST visiting. Hopefully soon, will come the babies. I think I spotted an American Lady today. I just looked it up, will try to find the white spot on the dorsal wing on this one. ...

Yes, indeed there are white dot on the dorsal wing. Sorry the pic. wasn't clear. I shall try again later.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Oooops, I got turned around. Correction please, a white spot on the forewing, and not the dorsal wing as I've mistaken.

Red Oak, TX

Lily-love: Yes, American Lady. And your early picture is of a Spicebush Swallowtail. Very nice shot.

This photo of a Snowberry Clearwing caterpillar is from last August. I took this with my DH's old digital SLR.

Now I have a new camera and finally got a photo of the Snowberry Clearwing HB moth. Just learned how to use the macro lens.

I posted this photo in insect ID but didn't get an answer. I know its a skipper of some kind.... maybe an Indian skipper?

Another showing the tattered look it was sporting. Still a good day when I spot a dark form TST!

Now I need to learn the sex of the TSTs!

Those phlox flowers are made for the butterflies! Gorgerious shots Sheila! Yes, I'm trying to learn to differentiate b/w the genders ton these swallowtails too.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Okay, Sheila, for our learning purpose, let's discuss about TSTs. Found this beauty just now. Is this a 'he'? lol

and the WTA (whatever they are) butterfly .. I've already caught myself reacting to these the same way I do sparrows..I know there are tons of different sparrows, but whenever I see one, I find myself going "oh, it's JUST a sparrow". Now I'm going "oh, it's another one of those BFs".

Shame on me!!

Clan...I find myself doing the same thing. I have a digital camera so it doesn't cost to take pics, but it isn't a challenge on some that I have a lot of already. LOL!
Lily....TST is a ....?.....male maybe??? Like I said, I haven't learned what to look for.

Had one of the black ones out front just a bit ago. Hope if it was a BST it lays some eggs on my fennel!

Ahhh, BST on fennel! That's a give-away id. isn't it? Glad that you've got some future 'babies' there Nan. Congrats.

Pic. taken yesterday. That of the very same Redspotted Purple on my butterfly bush that I've seen in the garden more than a week now. The marking was one of its wings was tattered.
