DAILY BIRD PICS VOL. 405

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

I have many visitors to our third floor balcony feeder now. All the parent birds are bringing the fledglings to the balcony, as if to say, "This is where you find the food... now feed yourself!" LOL!

All of a sudden there are Mourning Doves all over. These two were chasing all the others away.

Ooooo....those Herons are to cute!!

I had a phoebe out front today ....as I had the memory card in the card reader!! lol

Cute photos duc! Love seeing the Grosbeak!

Can't go wrong with babies....Cute one Adel!

This is not a really good one, but it has a Pileated & Red-bellied Woodpecker and if you look close there is a Blue Jay peeking around the tree!

Neat group shot, Nanny. good catch with the peeking Blue Jay.
Cute little hungry tree Swallow, Adel.
Love how your young Oriole are figuring the "how to" of the Oranges, Duc. Juvies are so fun to watch.
Glad you got to see your singing Phoebe. One I would like to get a close up of.
WR, you have a great variety of shots. Nice to see so many juvies, great shots of the Herons too.

Wow! Just love all of these shots. I am chasing Grackles away, or trying to chase Grackles away. They are descending in large groups, counted 50+ at one point yesterday and emptying all of the feeders. Four suet feeders are emptied in the blink of an eye.

So, I am enjoying your wonderful pictures. Most all I see here is black! Whine, whine, whine! LOL

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Duc, what's fun to watch those juvies Orioles learning their way around! I see that alot of birds really enjoy those orange halves that you offered. Adel, just a glimpse of the Tanager is worth the shot. Burn, nice series. Could you share tips how to differentiate juvie Grackles from the rambunctious adult ones. lol. Love the Song Sparrow, has the mama with the adopted Cowbird been around much?

(Zone 5a)

GrannyGrunt,

I am blessed to only have a few Grackles right now, and they rarely come to the feeders, but I did have the fits this spring. We even bought waterguns. They didn't have the oomph to keep them away for long though. Their only redeeming quality is I have been trying to watch for any Great-tails that might show up.

I enjoy Song Sparrows, burn, but they sure confuse me often into thinking they are something else. I get so excited, then oh.... :) I don't remember ever having them before this year, so they must like the area.

Nanny_56.... Oh how I can relate to that one! But remember when it used to be that we ran out of film?

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Thank goodness for digital!! I just wish I hadn't waited so long to go digital.

GG...I have grackles bringing fledglings now so between then and the Blue Jays I am filling the suet up everyday right now. Plus now with all the oriole fledgelings the grape jelly is flying out the door too! Thankfully, but yet regretfully, in 3- 4 weeks the orioles will start heading south.

Found this Great Blue Heron dived into the water from the pier early this morning;

Adel, I forgot to compliment you on the Tree Swallow babies. Nan, truly the Queen of the Woodpeckers! How fun to find the Jay peeking around the corner of the Pileated and Redbellied!

LOL, you all sound like me with the Grackles. I had Common and Boat-tailed here but mainly Common.
Their young are lighter in color

Thanks for the tips, Pelle.

Lots of great pics. I really enjoy the orioles since I don't have any this year. A pic of the male cardinal that has recently started coming to the back feeder. Light is wrong, but as the sun moves south, I'll start getting some good morning shots on this feeder.

What a handsome cardinal! Red.

Adel, love that tanager and the chicks are adorable. At least you got a photo of your tanager, I couldn't get to my camera when one showed up and then took off.

Nanny, that photo of the wps and jay is just too cute!

Burn, sweet photos of all your cute birds.

Lily, cute heron shot.

Red, love that "do" on your cardinal.

Cardinals on the tulep tree this morning. Perhaps because we have taken down the seed feeder because of squirrels. We use hot pepper suit cakes to keep them away.

Mount Pleasant Mills, PA(Zone 5a)

I decided to move to the front of the house away from the Grackles and attempt my luck with the hummers. This one has an interesting doo!

Lily, Pelle's right for the juvie Grackles, and no blue on the head showing, tail is shorter, and they are stubbier. Your Heron looks at home on the pier. The ones we have here, are not use to people, so they fly off, before I get a chance for a photo.
Yes the poor little Song Sparrow is still being a step mom to the Cowbird, I think her nest was in the hedge out back.. I`ve seen the Cowbird eat from the feeder today, so she might get a break.

I would love to see a Cardinal, Red. They are a bit further south of us. Although my SIL said, her Dad had seen some at his feeder, and that was just by the US border of Maine, which is about 10 miles from here. Hoping a stray makes his way here.

Lovely Bullock Oriole Duc.

Good group shot of the Pelican, and cute Wren, it looks like it singing it`s little heart out. :)

GG I have problems with Grackles as well. Hummers are much more fun to watch, and no competition with larger birds.
