A few minutes ago I added a zipcode report. My zip is 37037. Mine would be the first report on that plant. I live in Christiana, TN not Plainview, TN.
Pic attached.
Huh? I don't live there!
I'm really scratching my head now. The links in the photo are clickable. Am I the only one who finds that weird?
It doesn't click for me.
My zip code also comes up where I don't live. 80229 comes up as Denver. I live in Thornton, I have tried with other Thornton zip codes, and they also come up as Denver, but I have seen Westminster, Colorado listed (also a suburb of Denver).
Your link also doesn't click for me killdawabbit.
killdawabbit's "link" won't click for anyone as it's only a picture of what s/he saw, not a link.
Weird. I click on the pic and the links worked. How about the zipcode issue?
They were supposed to do a zipcode update a few days ago. Maybe it isn't working yet. Take a look here for Talia's post re what they were supposed to accomplish: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1191067/
Perhaps you should post there and refer to this thread so she knows that you're still having problems.
I'm thinking these may be something within the ZIP code database we're using, but I will be sure the tech team sees these.
Just updating a week later. I just did some zc reports. Mine is still showing as Plainview, TN.
I alerted the techs to the problems, and cited all the examples here :-)
Another update - I got an email late yesterday that these appear to be random errors in the dataset, and the tech team will correct them as they are reported.
Thanks, Terry. Will the previous entries be corrected also? Not a big, big deal but would be nice.
Once they get the correction made, it should affect all areas where the incorrect city is/was showing. When it's done, I'll let you know so you can check and make sure, okay?
Cool. :-)
Um, I have lived in a lot of states and (occasionally) when I look up a plant that I know grew well in this place or that, I put in the zip for the place that it grew...not my current zip. Will this affect postings such as mine?

It shouldn't. The system is designed to let you enter multiple ZIP codes (for situations such as yours) without any conflicts or confusion.
Whew! Good☺ Thanks!
I just tried posting zip codes in a plant description for Trollius Cheddar, and all three zip codes I used show the wrong locations.
99645 should be Palmer, Alaska, but is showing Butte, Alaska.
99654 should be Wasilla, Alaska but is showing Knik-fairview, AK
and 99687 should also be Wasilla, AK, but is showing Point MacKenzie, AK.
Seems like your zip code database is messed up.
Thank you - I've added these to the list of ZIPs to correct. Each of the ZIP codes is near both towns, correct? (I only spent a little time in Alaska, but I knew someone from near Wasilla :-)
Hi, Terry. I don't know about Alaska but Plainview is about 200 miles away from me. :-l
I know - I looked it up and made sure they know that one is very VERY off :-)
Here's another one that came via a helpdesk report
Tried to enter 48867 for Owosso, MI but it showed up in the entry as Middletown, MI http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/183891/
Thanks, Joan - I added that one to the list.
Hi, Terry. Just wondering if you could give us an update on the zone errors. Thanks.
I've filed them with the tech team, but I haven't heard an ETA on getting them updated yet. I'll bring it up at our next conference call next Wednesday.
Cool. Thanks. :-)
Terry, there's another one that came through the helpdesk. I went ahead and assigned it to you. Hope that's OK.
Hi. It's me again. :-D
Just did a zip report and it still says Plainview. Just wondering when it might be fixed?
Just wondering if this is ever going to be fixed? Thanks.
It is on our to-do list. I wish I could make it happen faster, but I can't...bear with us!
No prob. Thanks. :-)

Hi steve,
This is a known bug that the tech team is working on. Please add your comments to the ongoing discussion here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1191382/#new Thank you in advance for your assistance and cooperation.
Happy Gardening,
faeden
Thanks - we are logging these. The problem stems from a data set we're using to populate the ZIP codes, and we've found some problems with it, but there isn't an easy fix. For your member profile you can override the ZIP by adding your city/state. For the PlantFiles problem, you can use your correct ZIP (knowing that for now it will show up wrong), or substitute a nearby ZIP that correlates to the correct city.
Please add 98292 to the problem. This zip belongs to Stanwood WA but is showing up as Warm Beach WA or sometimes as Lake Goodwin WA. I live in Cedarhome WA. All are neighboring communities to Stanwood, which is the actual town where the post office is located.
Perhaps the tech squad can tie the zip code report to the reporting person's stated location - that makes more sense to me. The Stanwood zip code, for example, covers a wide range of different micro-climates. For example, what might grow well in Warm Beach (on the water) won't necessarily do well in Cedarhome (up higher and further inland). Thanks.

Recentlly you said changes were being made and
I hoped fixing this annoting persistent glitch was
one of them
It is much more widespread yjan you seen to think
Cant you get a correct zipcode list from the post office ?
or just change it to where we type in the city and state?
or country ?
I have given up on adding any more sips till it is corrected becaue it is difficult to keep track of what is correct and what has already been done
The ZIP code data sets we are using come from the USPS and other services that create them using lat/long data and ZIP codes and town/city names. We've discussed letting members override it (and you can in your profile, but not in the ZIP code listing in PlantFiles.) This is on my list of things to discuss at our weekly conference call tomorrow (Wednesday.)
Is it not possible to go back to the previous system?
so how did the neeting go ?
The ZIP codes I had reported up to that point have been corrected in our data set. (I thought they had.) Can you give me yours again and I'll double-check it against the list? If it isn't/wasn't on that list for some reason, I will make sure it's on there for the next time they make updates (should be fairly soon.)
75154 should be red oak tx
78539 should be edinburg yx
78572 should be Mission tx
just off top of my head - I know there are
more because not only my entries but
those of other people I know from a certain
town dont show up right like they used to
Methinks it is much more prevalent
than you thought
