Whirling butterflies
Summer Blooms (June Blooms part 2)
Careful what you wish for Sharon! LOL!
Yak....Love the blooms! Especially like the Duranta and the POB, mine is just fixing to bloom.
Do you ever see something you just HAVE to get?? (I know, dumb question in this crowd!). I just love that Pride of Barbados. It seems to take up alot of room. I will research and maybe get one this weekend. Got a spot in the front bed! Great pictures Yakmon! We have alot of the same flowers. My duranta is not blooming quite yet. Esperanza is going crazy, as well as all my lantana. My butterfly bush is rather ill with fungus but has been sprayed with neem. And my Mystic Spires is as tall as my chest! Ok, gotta go make pickles! Janet
Sharon, I'd be happy to share with you, but will they survive if I sent them now? I wish I knew someone traveling your way and I'd just send them along.
Janet, the Pride of Barbados is a large shrub/small tree down your way. They are beautiful!
Yak, your pics are all wonderful!!
Sharondippity you live in Paradise !
WOooooowww
Sharon, most of the plants I have do fairly well in drought conditions...and it is a good thing! We had a little bit of rain 2 days ago, but it wasn't a drought buster by any stretch. I am watering the plants as needed, but the old St. Augustine looks terrible...oh well. We have gotten rid of most of the grass in favor of rocks and beds anyway. I never knew one person could shovel so many rocks in a lifetime!
Bariolio, the pride of barbados does take up some room, but I just love the flowers. If you want a start, let me know and I will get some going for you. They root pretty easily from cuttings. I have seen them growing in San Antonio, they do freeze, but they come back from the ground and bloom within a few months. I cut mine off at the ground and they are about 6 feet tall now and covered in blooms. My mystic spires is about a month old, I can't wait until mine grows like yours.
Thanks for the comments!

my place needs weeding so bad. (Garden of Weeden) that's my official name for the place. It has just been too hot to keep things under control. Steph they more than likely would not do well shipped now. Keep me in mind for later. Sheila, what did you mean be careful? Are the aster invasive?
Dr, at the risk of sounding braggadocious............cameras cannot show what a paradise this place is most of the time..'cept in the hard winter or the drought of a hot summer. .....Fall is usually magnificent as is spring and usually june til about mid-july

sharondippity...does Webster's know about braggadocios? Well my spell check seems too...always love to learn a new word! I am sure your pictures don't do justice to how beautiful your area is!
Yakmon, nice pics! (how did you choose your name? I love it!)
Bananna - I kayak in the bays and Gulf quite a bit and like reggae music, so I decided to call myself Yakmon! My new passion is gardening, but I still love to kayak too, so I kept the name.
Braggadocious...love that word too!
Russell
I collect named tall bearded iris, having over 200 varieties. One name I am particularly fond of is called "Braggadocious"..........
Some of the names of iris and daylilies are hilarious.
Gee Yakmon, that would be really nice of you if you'd start me 1-2 POBs. Do you ever come through near Katy? I just looked up where Portland is and we are not exactly next door! No wonder you kayak. You must live 2 seconds from water. Must be beautiful there! If you'd like anything I have, I can start something for you. I currently have a rooted piece of Mexican Mint Marigold (http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/318/) and a patchouli I could trade.
Sharon, is that a morning glory? I'm starting seed tomorrow for Grandpa Ott's? The package in outside right now so I can't remember the exact name! I have loved MGs since I was a small child. It's the first flower I remember "loving"!
Janet
yes MG......gonna have some white moonflower vines soon......like white mg only they bloom at night
It's been cooler here this morning so I am watering the brown stuff. Looks like the turk's cap is coming on soon. Blue mist flower taking over in the beds, it's a beauty but o so invasive, pulled out a bunch
I almost lost mine b/c I forgot to water it. I put a chair over it to give it chance to regain it/s strength.
Stephanie, those coneflowers are beautiful, could you save me some seed, please?
Josephine.
Sure, if I can get some. They like to follow the sun and I've read on some sites that they are endangered. Not sure if that's the case or not, though.
you could buy Echinacea seeds cheap here: http://shop.wildseedfarms.com/Purple-Coneflower/productinfo/3217/
1/4 lb $12.25 lots of seeds
I normally throw them in the fall ... they will bloom the year after.
I never had luck with the Echinacea seeds I saved from my flowers
Drthor, thank you for the suggestion, but on that sight they only show Echinacea purpurea and Stephanie has Echinecea tennesseensis a different variety and very rare.
http://wildflower.org/plants/result.php?id_plant=ECTE3
ok sorry .... they look the same ...ouch
No problem, there are many Echineceas and sometimes it is hard to tell the difference unless you are really into them.
You are wonderful gardener and I admire your beautiful garden, I think all flowers are beautiful and have enjoyed you lovely pictures, so please keep posting.
Josephine.
