Wonderful blooms Dany. Love your Split Purpurea

Dany - I really like the purple/lavender blooms you've posted above. I like unexpected and unpredictable blooms. Especially when each bloom looks a little different on a vine. Very nice collection of blooming vines you've shared with us in these great photos! :-) Keep em coming! You always get some neat blooms!

Here was a 'purpurea' weather as they say duck weather : rain and cool!
Ipomoea Nil needs right temperature at night to express themselves.

Dany - Beautiful purpurea blooms and vines. I love that variegated foliage! Way cool!

I love the I. purpureas in my yard. My variety of higes are all growing together in one container and still going strong since February.

szarvas, Hungary

The seed came Kyushu!
It was enough to ask! (Order of April 3)

I asked for 20 cultivars, 20 cultivars I paid and I got 19 cultivars.
My list of 20 (first choice) I got 15 and my replacement list (5) I got 4.
10 cultivars with 5 seeds and other 9 with 10 seeds.
They give explanation on the letter but ... it's in Japanese!
I'm happy.

Now I'm looking for seeds of this plant:

Dany - OH MY! I don't know how I missed this thread!

Congratulations on receiving your seeds! Are you going to be able to grow them out this season or wait until next year?

Any chance of you sharing a list of which Q numbers you received? I'd love to go look at the Kyushu University website and drool checking out the bloom photos! LOL!

The thing about the KU seeds is that they would sure be interesting to try some crossing amongst the different cultivars and blooms. I think you might get something really amazing! I believe the gene pool in those vines are remarkable and it would be such fun to see what all those genetics mixed together would produce! I know that some are partially or completely sterile, but most probably would produce seeds from the blooms.

Aren't the cultivars with 5 seeds in each packet able to produce seeds and the packets with 10 seeds are usually sterile?

What plant is in that photo you posted?

szarvas, Hungary

It is a cultivar of periwinkle, impossible to find seeds. In Japan there are only small plants for sale and on Japanese blog they council to buy the plants and collect seeds.

Just good for Jon !

The bags of Kyushu : many seeds is that they collect many seeds so those cutivars are fertile.
There's just this year I'm trying one purpurea ( Q 1161 ) other are for 2012 (...I will share it!).

The Japanese do not make much hybridization, they just grow them!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Dany - Very unusual looking periwinkle! No wonder the seeds are nearly impossible to locate. Can't help ya there! Sorry.

You are only planning to grow the Q1161 this year and the rest from KU next year? AND you are going to keep us in suspense about which Q numbers the rest of the seed packets are? LOL!

You are so bad, Dany!!! LOL! Apparently you are familiar with the Arabian Nights stories and how they resulted in nightly cliff hangers? So you are going to keep us hanging until next year? :-D

From Wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_Thousand_and_One_Nights ):
"The main frame story concerns a Persian king and his new bride. He is shocked to discover that his brother's wife is unfaithful; discovering his own wife's infidelity has been even more flagrant, he has her executed: but in his bitterness and grief decides that all women are the same. The king, Shahryar, begins to marry a succession of virgins only to execute each one the next morning, before she has a chance to dishonour him. Eventually the vizier, whose duty it is to provide them, cannot find any more virgins. Scheherazade, the vizier's daughter, offers herself as the next bride and her father reluctantly agrees. On the night of their marriage, Scheherazade begins to tell the king a tale, but does not end it. The king is thus forced to postpone her execution in order to hear the conclusion. The next night, as soon as she finishes the tale, she begins (and only begins) a new one, and the king, eager to hear the conclusion, postpones her execution once again. So it goes on for 1,001 nights."

I looked up the Q1161 photos. Looks like it could be a hige or split petal bloom. Very interesting cultivar! I look forward to seeing your vine and blooms this year for that one!

szarvas, Hungary

LOL....LOL
You're right! LOL
Hum ! ....Scheherazade a nice name for a future cultivar!

Produce flowers of MG is not a problem but to produce seeds we too late in the year!

Q 1161 not only split and hige bloom but 2 colors on the same plant. There two Q 1161 !!
