Good shots of the Glossy Ibis, Pelle. Do you find them to be super-skittish?
Love the Scissor-tail, Red.
Duc, what amazing shots of the Jay feeding on the deer's parasites. Like those Ox-peckers in Africa.
Daily Bird Pics. Vol. #404
Hi Margaret, They were actually very calm at this meeting.
Must be our colonial Glossies that are very wary.
Duc, maybe you can get some video next time you see a jay on a deer. Wonder if they'd eat wood ticks. I should take one along on my butterfly walks through the grasslands. It could sit on my shoulder like a parrot and pick off any ticks. Now THAT would be some training!
Red, quite amazing those tails on the Scissortail. What are they for? Are they just on the males to attract females?
Pell, I love that "group" shot of the Ibis… would that be Ibisses or Ibisae? ha.
Lily, quite a large family of geese you have there.
That Scissor-tail is so nice. Would like to see one of those. And great shot of the Killdeer, Egret and Vultures, Red.
Pelle, Glad you got to see the Glossy ibis and was able to share that with us.
Great catch Duc. with the Scrub Jay doing service to the deer. it not something we see very often. The little Wren with the food is very sweet.
This is a Yellow Warbler, coming in for a regular bath, at the pond.
I assume the long tails are for attracting mates. The males do a sky dance early in the season with a lot of aerobatics while spreading that long tail. They also have a bright orange-vermillion color underneath the wings that they display. The females have long tails, but not as long as the males and also have the coloring under the wings, but to a lesser degree.
This is a female, but shows the coloring under the wing. Taken on the red dirt field behind the house.
Great detail shots of the Scissortail Red. Burn, the Yellow Warbler is adorable, how nice having the sweet bird coming to the bath on a regular basic.
Ducbucln, that is amazing with the scrub jay. I always feel so bad for the deer and those ticks. They don't normally carry around a can of OFF. :) We are hoping to catch a Bewick's later this week to where one was spotted. It's been around for a few days, I just hope it stays a few days more.
Fantastic pictures everyone.
There are some amazing birds being shown here.
GG, very nice of the hummingbirds. Love the Wren that was busy cleaning house, Pelle.
I thoroughly enjoyed all the wonderful pictures.
I haven't seen or heard any catbirds here this year. I do see a couple of cedarwaxwings in the yard. Hope they are nesting.
And still see a couple of Evening Grosbeaks eating seed off the deck. Can't get any pictures tho. Had light rain most of the morning yesterday, so don't have to irrigate.
Donna
O my Oh my! Pelle, that's one colorful Glossy Ibis!
I like how you`ve captured the color of the Ibis , Pelle. Great flight shot.
GG, Your catbird remind me when I was at my SIL`s place, the other day. We heard the catbird sing. She`s a cat lover and thought she had heard a cat. When I showed her the bird, it made the sound again, she thought that was so neat.
Nice shots Duc.
A Hairy Woodpecker partially hidden by leaves.
Thanks guys!
Hi Duc, I have never seen a House Sparrow trying to enter through that so I can't really say. It is a wren/ chickadee size. The house is Bluebird size.
Wonderful shots duc, nanny and burn!
I like that ibis shot, too. Interesting colors. Good yard birds all. Sat out and had breakfast with the bluebirds and had a few other visitors as well.
This is one of the mockingbirds that fledged on 12 June. They are still hanging around the house and the parents still feed them. The female is building a second nest in a Nelly Stevens Holly in the front yard. Glad there is a little more space and a house between them and the bluebirds.
Nanny, I'm coming to your house to see those sweet juvie wps! Great photo.
Burn love your wp photos and that purple finch is a sweet one too.
Pelle, enjoy your birthday today! Thanks for the answer on that house. I'm thinking that next year I should try that addition to my house. I have way too many hosp here and more in a couple houses and I don't have the heart to harm them.
Red, that mocker juvie couldn't get any cuter. Great shots of all your birds, sorry you missed the juvie sparrows.
I couldn't resist showing off our first fawn for the year. Mama brought it to our fence where we put out a bucket of fresh water during the warmer days.
