Bill can do it!!
Garden Projects #5
not so sure about breaking one of natures laws:)
stop it.. we know you can handle it
I am sure SOJ project will be more amazing than her current one, which amazes me every time I see shots of it. I don't dare tell DH what you are doing as he will think I will want to do the same. No pond for me, yet, just and endless fishless stream. But I sure do have a perfect spot for a pond.......going to bed dreaming of koi and water lilies and herons. Patti
just wonderful.
What do you do when the leaves start falling, Christina? Cover with a net?
i will answer for her - yes she does a very big one
That's a major hassle. Now that I have removed the nearby trees, I get almost no leaves in the pond at all.
Thanks, Bill. Just got home from a very looong day in Boston preparing for my deposition in a messy lawsuit (work). I'm mentally, emotionally and physically drained. Not looking forward to next week!
Netting the pond is hubby's job. Oddly, he enjoys Stuff like that.
song of Joy your pond is stunning! I haven't been to the botanical garden here at the coast but I hope to this summer. I hear that it is awesome.
talked about the pond here with the wife to distract her while we walked papelbon scare us again at the end of the game - she is in on the pond:)
ha ha I fell asleep only to here awakening to Don Orsillo said they struck Damon out (maybe I was dreaming of Joy's pond!)
Bill and Christina, can't wait to see what you two do with your new upcoming pond projects.
Karen
Yes, Sherrie...it's at UCONN in Storrs....too far for me, & I don't think I could tolerate the stench! Bill, yay for the pond.....It was hot walking the dogs yesterday, so I stopped to sit on a bench near a very scummy pond behind the dam....Robs was fascinated by the frogs calling & plopping into the water..... I couldn't drag him away.....no pond for me :
Oooh, go for the water garden, Sherrie!
I just saw this and thought that someone may want a new project.....not me. Years age a banker who lived next door once planted his private plants on our property unbeknown to us , but then his step kids found them and did and early harvest. He was furious, but not as mad as me when I found out that we would have been the ones arrested for his weed. Those kids are now in their mid 30's and love to tell the tale.
I assume they will Patent Miracle Weed

Sherrie, a water garden would be great. Beds can always be revived with great success. I often just redo the whole thing, keeping the plants aside while I dig out all the grass and invasive plants.
Miracle Weed! LOL! I wouldn't be surprised, Louise!
Oh, I hate it when plants are patented and you can't propagate them to sell. So unfair!
Karen
How long does a patent last? Does it happen very often? I can't remember the last time a patent on an iris. 'Immortality' was interoduced at $100 so it sort of originally had the same effect.
so how good was it patti?
Wha, Not me, I thought you were the stoner. And I don't have much experience with miracles either, so count me out (of it) I can't wait to see their TV advertizements of the suburban homemakers out watering their army of MaryJane plants and singing the praise of the size of their holy herb.I remember that older actor, James Whitmore doing them for a long time, ironically he died of lung cancer. Patti
Whaaaaaa!!! Patti you are sharp.
I remember the J.Whitmore ads. With so many silly useless laws passed ,why shouldnt we legalize weed gardening.?
Sounds like Thomaston....several big mj "farm" busts in the town ....both places were on my mail route.....
Ge1836, I wish I could sell the plethora of weeds that I do grow, but they aren't the smoking kind. This week is the start of the nut grass battle.
schickenlady are you now in the pot business too?
No, kidding, I would dig them up and put in the shade on a big tarp and keep them watered and pull the tarp cover them to lightly cover them if it is going to take only a couple of days, other wise pot them up and put in the shade and keep them happy.
You might have issues with the roots on that big tree if you are digging up a pond. But I don't have a pond so I defer to those that do on that. Patti
I saw a HGTV where they used baby pools to keep the shrubs and hostas while they were working on redoing the garden
Nice rocks in your post above, Sherrie!
Don't let Wha see them. Patti
ok i had to go back and look at the rocks
Didn't get diddly done today except pot up daylilies that I have no room for yet. Wasn't feeling too great this morning, so got a slow start. And I was dripping sweat the whole time it was that humid. Had to work 3-7, so that messed up my day. I really hate working on Saturdays.

when I do larger landscape (I'm a designer/landscaper in Maine) on renovations we try and do them on a cloudy or sprinkling day and we do as bbrookroad says water everything first or the night before--even better because it will be watered but not as heavy. Taking a decent root ball dig everything up...use a smaller tarp to drag across to larger tarp in a shaddy spot. Spray them gently w/ a watering wand and cover them if need be. We usually cut whatever is flowering back or isolate those plants on another tarp so we can be extra gentle. Have a plan for where everything is going back so you can make speedy work of it...set the plants on top before digging it all back in....check to make sure you like the look from all directions and start digging. I'd have a wheel barrel of compost or extra amended soil to blend as you replant. If you have a few gardening buddies invite them over to help you dig everything back in (that's the instant gratification part) Make up a blender of Margaritas and fire up the grill after...if you feed them they will come :)
Great plan....I'm afraid I'm a little haphazard.....last time I dug out a bed, I filled the wheelbarrow with water, threw the plants I was keeping in there ( all small plants, no trees or shrubs), rototilled, & plunked them back in......
sonoranpoet, Now that is good detailed advice. Must remember to all this as I am looking at tearing apart a bed that I don't like. Patti
what is that? horrible looking. Patti
Look like aphids....
