Daily Bird Pics. Vol. #403

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Time to share more of our birds...here is a link to the previous thread http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1184744/ .

Thought I'd start off with one of the Bluebirds that fledged a few weeks ago. There were 6 of them and I had 5 eating from the mealworm feeder the other day.

Here is one from last week being fed by Dad.

You can't go wrong with bluebirds, dell. A great way to start a thread. I'm in TX, but seeing these guys makes me think I'm back on my patio in OK. I always wonder what Daddy thinks when I'm not there to feed them worms. I doubt he thinks too long about it as he is quite capable of catching enough bugs to feed his small brood. I still see the juvies from the first brood around, but not as often.

Here is a Summer Tanager from a few weeks ago in MO.

Oh....so sweet Rose! Love dad feeding!

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

I too, love the feeding shot. Thank for the nice start to the thread with the Bluebird, Rose.
Red, the ScarletTanager must be easy to spot with that vivid color, beautiful bird.

Norman, OK

burn, Actually you generally hear the male tanager singing first rather than seeing him. I've found them to be very territorial and if I hear one singing back in the forest, I can simply play his song from my iphone and he will generally come in and give me a look. That wasn't really a very good pic, hard for me to select those thumbnails, I should always preview them first. Here is a better pic of one.

In the last thread, Lily, cute photos!

Rose, thank you for the cute new start. Your bbs are adorable and that goldfinch is so bright and cheery.

I'm still trying to get some blue sky so I can get a decent photo of the Purple Martins. Till then, this has to do. I still haven't found where they're nesting but the female disappears for long periods of time, hopefully on a nest.

Red, sorry I forgot to mention that gorgeous tanager-wow!

Not a great shot because of the clouds, but this osprey was trying to take some kind of food from an eagle that was standing in a tree below our house.

Love the Bluebirds Rose. Red that is a beautiful shot of the Tanager. Duc, that Purple Martin is neat. Never saw one other than in pictures.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Thank you Rose for a great new start with the Eastern Blue Bird juvenile. Such sweet pix of Dad feeding his young. Red I saw the Tanager but once. Now I yearn for an iphone to record and play back bird call. Grin* Duc How can we tell the diff. from the Purple Martins and the various Swallows?

Hi GG, and everyone,
GBH sun bathing this afternoon. Our temp. almost reaches its triple digits today. Yike.

Beautiful pics everyone!

Rose, Thanks for the great start! The little Bluebirds are adorable!

Norman, OK

Lily, you are fortunate to have a good variety of birds on that lake. A pic of an Orchard Oriole taken at Lake Thunderbird.

Thanks Red, lovely Orchard Oriole!

Happy birthday to you GrannyGrunt. Wishing you a great weekend to celebrate your b'day.

Lily, I want to move! Can't believe it's so warm there. Our high has been in the mid 50's! Cute heron photo. The Purple Martins are easy to spot. They're the largest (up to 8 1/2 in.) and no other swallow has a dark belly. They're actually blue/black and have a wonderful song. (love that photo of blooms for granny too!)

Red, that Orchard Oriole is gorgeous.

Here's my first juvenile Brewer's Blackbird.

This imm. Bald Eagle just can't seem to ever gather enough nesting materials, or if it does it must lose most of it when being chased by the crows.

This juvenile House Finch sure was chasing dad around and begging for food.

Finally dad fed it a bit of peanut.

Love the eagle duc! and all the feeding scenes!

Marlton, NJ

Wonderful pics duc! Love the eyes on the juvenile Brewers Blackbird.
Nice one of the eagle and a very sweet scene between Dad House Finch and little one.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Yes, Duc, great pics. of the birds. As far as the weather? You'd think twice to find out we're near record heat down here. Wanna swap place? lol

Who said June is time to put the birds seeds away. There are so many hungry mouths to be fed out at the feeder. Let's see what I've got out there today;

Well Lily, I just saw 50# bags of sunflower seeds selling for 26.99 here! So I'm really glad it is not winter, where I go through so much!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

I am really cutting back on what I put out right now. I am just not going to feed the undesirables any more than I have too! I maybe put a little safflower seed out in the morning, otherwise I wait until evening and put it and some sunflower chips out. I still have starling & grackles but at least they aren't out there all day eating up every thing I put out!

Nan, that's such sweet series. Just likes kids trying to get along in preschool. lol Marna, & Nan I'm going to tapper the feedings down here too. There are plenty of insects awaiting the birds out there as the season progresses.

Marlton, NJ

Cute series nanny!
I hear you on the "undesirables"; my Grackles are up to about 20 strong here along with a good amount of Starlings. Starting to see juvy Grackles around now.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

I had to switch feeders too. The one I was using was too easy for the sparrows to thrash around and toss seeds on the ground. So much waste! I've gone down to a hopper feeder that they can't do that with.

Marlton, NJ

I'm definitely going to get a caged feeder soon. Want to shop around first.

Has anyone tried the caged feeder by Audubon?

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Quote from ducbucln :

Too young to nest anyway! Just trying things out a bit. It'll get more confidence when it's mature in 3 or 4 years.

Red that is a beautiful Tanager...I still have not seen a male.

Duc..Gorgeous shots, love the feeding ones and that Eagle practicing nest building is priceless.

Lily...Love that shot of the sun bathing GBH. Hope it cools down for you soon....seems like we completely skipped the spring season!

Nanny...Precious series of the fledglings!!

This Great-crested Flycatcher landed outside my kitchen window. Such a gorgeous bird and one I've only seen a few times.

Pelle and Mrs. Ed...I have been using the Stokes caged feeder and the only birds that like it are the ones I want to use it. I think I got it at Tractor Supply.
Seems like the Cowbirds and Red-winged Blackbirds eat everything on the platforms.

Here is a female or juvie Purple Martin in the dead tree this morning...long shot.

Nice shots everyone, especially the little baby Bluebirds.

Nanny, I know what you mean about the undesirables. My Starlings can actually eat from the suet cake upside down like the Woodpeckers, Chicadees and Titmouse. I have not seen the young Starlings yet though.

Rose, the Great-creasted Flycatcher sure is a beauty. Awwww, Al the Blue-gray Gnatcatcher on the nest. Is so rare. Isn't it wonderful to see BB nesting. What's a joy!

Marlton, NJ

Rose, Love the Great-crested Flycatcher and the Purple Martin!

Lovely shots Al!

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

This pic was actually taken about a week ago, but the cedar waxwings have about devoured every berry on the serviceberry tree.Does anyone in or close to zone 6 have any plants that are fruiting right now? I need to add something that is ready to devour, when the serviceberries are gone. I have so enjoyed watching the cedar waxwings .They are even nesting in the yard this year.
