And here is a picture of the whole plant:

It's very unusual looking.I love the flower color.

Unsual, At the AV convention were many chiritas. wonderous for me as i am not familiar with them.
Have stolon for 4 peeps of Escp. "Geneviewe" will send to first 4. No postage no trade.

Chicago, IL(Zone 6a)

Thanks everyone. Given high humidity, it's an easy one to grow. It is, however, an annual. I'll try to set seed and, if successful, anyone who wants to try it is welcome to.

Olaf

Northeast, MO(Zone 5b)

It is different from the others. Looks like a happy plant

Connie

Chicago, IL(Zone 6a)

Thanks Connie!

It belongs to a group of annual species in the genus. They are all a bit of the odd balls. Nonetheless pretty and very easy to grow from seed. It took me much longer than it should have to grow them to size but I made a few little mistakes in the beginning. It is the first time for me growing them. Next time, I'll hopefully do better... :)

Pearcea hypocyrtiflora. Growing like a weed. I hope that I can get it to flower one day...

Well. if you made a few little mistakes you can't tell it lol All of your plants look happy and healthy

Connie

Chicago, IL(Zone 6a)

Well, thanks Connie! I keep trying... :)

The micromusa is unusual. Is the bud coming out directly from the leaf petiole? It certainly is beautiful too. I agree with Connie- what a green thumb you have.

If I can get Streps through Summer, this one is high on the list. :)

Montgomery, AL

Thanks Olaf. Where does the flower of micromusa grow from?

Montgomery, AL

I'll give you a leaf after summer then.

Chicago, IL(Zone 6a)

It seems like the flowers (on short pedicels) arise directly from the hub (sinus) of the leaf or in this case, the oversized cotyledon.

:) Thanks Jamie!

Very neat indeed.

Sinningia 'Flair' doing odd things.

Exhibit A: a semi-double, misshapen flower.

Exhibit B: A light colored, misshapen flower.

I assume that either the sudden jump in temperature or a crown that is getting tired and ready to quit could be resposible for it.

No good news for an exhibitor, a cool thing for a casual grower. :)

Jamie,
Your plants are just georgeous!

Olaf,
I love it when plants do strange things.

Lynn

Chicago, IL(Zone 6a)

I'm with you on that one, Lynn! I can't get enough of plants doing things that they're not supposed to according to the book... :)

Sinningia 'Mighty Mouse' decided to put on a little show today:

Helene- Thank you for Genevieve. She arrived beautifully! I hope I can grow her nicely. What goodies did you pick up at the AV convention? Show us some pics everyone who went. I heard the internet dinner was great. Did u get to meet lots of people? I'd love to go and meet everyone in person. Like Nicole, maybe I can make next years in Texas (finger's crossed).

Have a great day everyone.Jan

Chicago, IL(Zone 6a)

Absolutely Jan!

I'll keep you posted. If I get seed, some of it will go back to the seed fund and the rest will go to everyone who's interested in growing the plant.

The only thing you'll have to promise me is to try to set seed anf if successful, donate some seed to the seed fund and share the rest. :)

i love your chiritia ,i also like tamina too sure dont look like the others do they
JIM

Chicago, IL(Zone 6a)

Thanks Lynn and Jim!

The cool thing about Chiritas, in my opinion, is their variety in growth patterns. Sure, all the classic rosette-Chiritas are exceptionally beautiful but there's a lot more to the genus. Like tamiana or micromusa (which stay petite) or 'Moon Walker', (which can be several feet tall).

Let's see some more June blooms everyone.
