Just goes to prove if you find a chick on the ground, just leave it be and the parents will usually feed and care for it.
Oh, the bad part was that we listened to a poor deer, probably in labor and having a hard time, making the worst sounds you ever heard. My husband went down into the brush (after listening to it for 3 hours) to find it and didn't have any luck but it did stop so we're hoping she's okay.
Daily Bird Pics - Vol. 402
Your babies are so cute!! I have always wondered if deer make noise giving birth. We think they do it some where very close around here.
I think that the resident pair of cardinals are nesting in a conifer just across the lot line. They are usually not that close. However there must be much to eat here viburnum & blueberries because the hen seems quite busy in our yard, while he sits calling in the treetops.
What a great show of bird photos.
Loved seeing all the birds in your area Tiger Lily, This is such a dry area and only trees near me are ones I planted, in the past 17 years, There used to be apple orchards near but have all been removed. There are a few Poplar trees but I don't think they are very attractive to many birds.
Thanks everyone for taking the time to take pictures and send them along.
Donna
i wish I could see eagles every day. Good shots, tiger lily. And I always enjoy night herons, lily. I took a mid-afternoon trip which I expected to be unproductive down on the South Canadian River. Saw six Yellow-crowned Night Herons. I was not able to get close pics of the one with a really large and colorful plume. I may try for him again tomorrow. I ran across a fellow who birds that area daily and he said they have been there since last Friday.
Great shots of the eagle, duc. How are your baby Tree Swallows going?
Red, those Woodpecker shots are are knockout!
Bird bath looks like a popular place, Nanny. Nice shots of your damp birds.
I heard crows this morning & then saw the piliated wp which they we chasing. Dratted crows, I'd rather have the woodpecker!
Computer problems are a pain! Glad you are up and running, burn. iris, I have a family of GH owls that live on the creek. I can never spot them when the trees are leaved out, but the crows can. They give the owls heck on a daily basis.
Sitting out on the patio enjoying the early morning with the birds. The mockingbirds are ahead in the breakfast bug count. They have brought in 5 for their babies; bluebirds four. Daddy brought three. He is a much better bug catcher than Mama. Barn Swallows, House Finches, Lark Sparrows and a redtail keeping me company.
I worked on a shot of the redhead that I thought was too far away to be any good. But I can crop twice shooting at 18 MP and they turn out OK. I don't know exactly how DG displays the pics here, but they do a great job.
Wow, great catch of the young Eagle with nesting material on its tallons Duc. Nan, it's so much fun to see the parent birds bringing their young to feed or bathing. Love, love seeing the babies. Red, those pics. of the Redheaded wps. are so crisp and clear, what fabulous job you did. Sounds like a great morning Red. Happy birding. Oh I have not seen a Yellow-Crowned Night Heron before, but the Black-Crowned ones maybe the culprit who's responsible for my missing goldfish--half a dozen of them. Lately it just hung out on the pier much too long after sunrise. So Duc, the pier is inviting ... even for the BCNH! sniff sniff.
Canadian Geese passing through. There are a handful of Geese that decided to remain here (in the South) to raise their young. But this flock so happen to drop by on their journey North I do believe. It's unusual to see them in big flock this time of year.
Nice red head!! I love sitting out in the mornings and listening to all the birds and watching who comes. We have Song Sparrows nesting in the neighbors shrubs and they come and get sunflower chips now. I love hearing them!
Crows are being harassed by the grackles all the time right now when they come to they yard....
Lily, the geese that are still in AL this time of year are most likely residents. They travel around some, usually chasing feed.
Nanny, I have a couple of crows that visit the grain every morning and now that the mockingbirds are nesting nearby, the show is on. The crows are too wary to allow me to sit out and take pics or even through the window. The male mocker spars with them every morning.
I tried cropping the pic of the more spectacular YC Heron 3 times and sharpened a bit. Still not a good shot of his plume. We'll see how this turns out.
My what big eyes you have, Mr. Heron!
Red, great photo of the heron! That red-head couldn't get any sharper! Awesome photos, hope they go on your wall! Love that last heron with the breeding plume.
Nanny, sweet bb in that bath. Love the starling family-so cute! Poor crows-they get harassed here too.
Burn, love your birds. Great job on the swallow in flight-I'm still trying to catch one.
Lily, cute photo of the geese.
Here's a Brown-headed Cowbird youngster. I never did find which bird raised this one.
Like that Ash-throated Flycatcher. Some have been reported here, but I've never seen one in OK. Went back down on the South Canadian this morning and was able to get a pic of the young Red-shouldered Hawks. They are about ready to fledge, venturing out of the nest. I missed the shot of the day when mama brought in a snake and I had been foolish enough to answer my cell phone.

Awesome captures, tigerlily! I've observed this many times, but I had a 12 gauge across my lap instead of a Canon.
