Daily Bird Pics - Vol. 402

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Time to start a new thread! Please keep your wonderful bird photos coming!
We came form here... http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1182816/

I will start off with a recent photo of an Eastern Phoebe.

Next is a series of Osprey photos, showing the sequence of a dive. I photographed several birds over two days, and selected the best of each part of the dive, so it is not all the same bird.

Start off with the hover over the water...

Very nice start. Thanks. Great idea on the Osprey diving series.

Interesting how he dives with his feet back then throws his feet forward about five feet from the water and goes in feet first.

Wow great job on the Osprey fishing series VA!

Thanks for starting the new thread!

Wow, Wild rose. Wonderful Osprey shots. I love the one of the bird surfacing the best, but all have made me turn a sickly green colour. :)

Some fantastic serrial shots of the Osprey in action Wild Rose! Love the E. Phoebe at the start, thank you for the new thread. Look how the feather coloring is quite different from Osprey down under Margaret.

Still waiting here for more Chickadees to fledge. I got burnt to a crisp out there yesterday so I won't be spending much time today.
Here is another pic of the chick that fledged.

I too, enjoyed the osprey shots! Another pic of one of the baby Killdeer from yesterday. Hope I can find them again today.

Oh Red! The baby Killdeer is sooo cute! I hope you'll find them again today. Pelle, the dees fledglings too are too cute for words. Congratulations.

Helen... your baby chickadee is adorable!

Red... so is that baby kildeer! I have heard from other photographers how fast they are! That new camera is really working out nicely for you! I am envious!

Thanks to you all for your nice comments!

Gorgeous shots Wild Rose!!

On the last thread, Rose, love that bunting! Your behavioral shot is awesome! Poor bunny though.

Red, your killdeer chick is just adorable. It's wonderful that mama mocker has a nest so close to you. She trusts you, I think that's sweet. Glad she's leaving the bbs alone.

Wild Rose, thank you for the wild new start. Your photos of the osprey are just breathtaking-well done!!

Pelle, your dee chick is soooo sweet. Are these birds really that clean? My swallow houses have long white ick (think you know what that is!) down below the holes. I might have to put pictures of yours up on the windows so my birds can learn how to be cleaner.lol

Here's a pair of Mourning Doves that entertained themselves by watching a pair of quail dust bathing closeby.

Got me a "lifer" yesterday! The sky was gray but a touch of color confirmed I had several Purple Martins on the power lines outside my house. I've never seen them before anywhere!

I also found a Violet-green Swallow by the Purple Martins. I guess they all hang out together because I also found a couple Cliff Swallows along with my Tree Swallows. Now if the weather could only cooperate and give me a pretty blue sky....

Duc, Congratulations on the new bird! Love the Violet-green Swallow too.
Yes the Chickadees are pretty clean, even the inside of the house looks nice after they all leave. The only icky stuff that gets on the house is when other types of birds land on top of the nest box and go.

Just had a bit of drama here when one of the chicks left the nest box when the parents weren't there. He flew through a split in the fence into the next yard. I was so upset. I did a call that I use for birds then ran into the next yard to try and keep an eye on the little one. By the time I got there the parents were arriving and had the little one closer to cover but near ground level. I hope he'll be okay. It must be so hard for them having some chicks still in the nest while others are at another location. Definitely keeps them running. Still one or 2 chicks left in the box.

Nice ones duc!

Impressed by all the pictures & the mighty wing span of the osprey.

Always enjoy the swallows. I have 4 Barn Swallows that are always hunting the field behind the house, but never see them perched. They are way to fast for me to shoot in flight.

We took a walk down by the ponds late yesterday and found the Killdeer chicks again. One was missing, hope he is OK. These things are hard to photograph! They won't allow you close and most shots are running. I managed to herd this one toward the pond and got a couple of close shots. They are the cutest little birds.

Also saw the pair of Green Herons, but as usual, I can't get near them. Have to shoot from across the pond.

A running shot. I have two more like that minus a head. :-)

We'll try one of the Green Herons in flight. Not sure how this will display. Taken from across the ponds.

A shot of a female scissortail stretching. Shows the coloration underneath the wings that is normally only visible in flight. I posted a series of the stretch.

Wild Rose I like the Osprey Series. The ones I visit are all sitting on their eggs now, so not too much action yet.

Love the baby chicadee and killdeer shots. I hope I catch the nesting family I found fledge. I will be back there this weekend.

Here's a couple Eastern Phoebe shots I got at one of my favorite local spots.

The Killdeer chicks are always so adorable!

Love that Brown Thrasher baby!

Pelle, that was so sweet of you to call for mom and dad. I can just imagine you calling them-LOL!

Nanny, such a pretty photo of the catbird.

Red, love the killdeer photos! Beautiful shots of the heron and scissortail too!

Met, beautiful shots of the phoebe. That little thrasher couldn't be any cuter-fantastic shots.

I was really down when I found one of my Bullock's Orioles had a bad leg. Turned out he has two bad legs so I don't know how he'll survive. My deer hubbie made several of the perches wider by adding sticks and now we've got one feeder sitting on a bench where he can just stand flat and drink. Haven't seen him yet this morning, but another oriole did drink from this new feeder.
