Louc, I am glad you love the Bionic gloves.
I have been using them for 6 years now.

Guess I will have to start wearing long sleeves. The space between the bottom of my t-shirt sleeve and the top of these long gloves has given me a dark tan in a band around my elbow. Very unique. Now it matches the weird tan on my feet where I wear the same pair of thong sandals everyday. At least as eye catching as a tattoo. Have been wearing an ankle bracelet for years. When the nail tech took it off last week for a pedicure I even had a light line where it rides and a dark tan all around it.

I'm one of the fortunate few who does not blister. Have never, ever laid out in the sun to tan. A stroll to the car would tan.

Too funny Christi!

Louc I have the same sun tan !!!
It means that you are a "professional" gardner !! giggle

Can we add "favorite sunscreen" to this discussion? I would sure like to find one that actually works and doesn't catch every stray grain of sand. I apply sunscreen on my arms every morning but have what I call a "farmer's tan." White hands from gloves and white near my shoulders from T-shirt sleeves and everything in between is tanned.

Might be a great new thread topic Glenna. But I am required now days to wear sunscreen everyday, dermatologist orders. I use and love Neutrogena Ultra Sheer dry-touch 45spf...lightweight clean feel. Waterproof also. It is non-comedogenic (won't clog pores). Miss it when I forget.

Where do you get it, Sheila?

Pretty sure it was Walmart, but drug store should have it too. They make it in pf 30 also.

I ordered a pair of the bionic gloves since everyone seems to like them. I also have foxgloves, and I love the fit and dexterity they give me. I have all sorts of gloves. . . My pet peeve is ALWAYS ending up with a ton of dirt under my fingernails no matter what glove I've tried. I've thought about capping my fingertips with rubber glove tips, but haven't gotten around to trying that. I have small hands and fit is very important to me. Are there any gloves that keep your fingernails relatively clean?

So far the bionic gloves have done all that I expected. Including the mud under the nails thing.

I find putting hand lotion on the nails helps to reduce the dirt on the nails and cuticles with my Atlas's. I have heard of people scraping their nails on soap to protect them.

Whereas soap will work, I buy the cheapest jar of drug-store hand cream I can find (something thick and waxey - mine is Pacquette's Body Cream, I think), and then dig your fingernails through it so each nail has a thick coating of the cream. Be sure to have the cream right where you keep the gardening supplies you use all the time, such as gloves. I promise you this works. Any dirt that tries to sneak under your nails will come right out when you wash your hands. I keep a nail brush by the kitchen sink to use when needed, but with my double-gloves, rarely have to use this trick.

Incidentally, as a reminder, be sure to keep your tetanus shots up-to-date if you're serious about gardening. Sooner or later, you're gonna get a scratch/puncture from a rusty piece of equipment. Better to be safe.
