Daily Bird Pics # 400

Norman, OK

I took my oriole feeder down today, duc. I just don't think it's going to happen. Enjoyed seeing yours.

But, look who came to dinner. I've seen lots of these and even this year in Texas, but they still make my heart skip a beat when I spot one.

What's a treat to have those colorful Bunting at the feeder. Whoa! Congrats Marna, and Red. (especially Red, on the Bunting). I want one. Nah, I NEED one. lol

Great Blue Heron caught a fish. A big catfish! Ugh! It may get a sorethroat after supper. Poor thing!

lily--great capture of the heron with the channel cat. I've read that they sometimes choke to death by trying to swallow large prey. Did you see the end of that encounter?

nanny-- like the Yellow-throated Warbler. Another bird I don't see around here.

Another shot of the Painted Bunting. He returned in late afternoon to feed again.

Hi Lily, A Eurasian Hobby is a small falcon bird. http://www.flickr.com/photos/uropsalis/5734557325/in/photostream/

How nice that the Black-crowned Night Heron came along.

Glad your still seeing the Painted Bunting red!

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Red, I'm so excited for you that the bunting returned to the feeder. I didn't see the end of that saga, as the Heron dipped the fish into the lake for a while, then carried it onto the woods to avoid the pesky Pekin ducks travelling too close-for comfort. lol

Though, the Pekins showed no interest at the Heron's dinner. These pair are notorious toward the Mallards at breeding season, however. I wished they would play fair. But nooo, they're exhibiting their true color this time of year. lol

Red, wow, that bunting is awesome! So colorful they don't look real.

Lily, think you're right about that heron swallowing the catfish. Nice photos of the blk-crowned night heron. I love them.

Nanny, that wren looks like it still has the baby mouth-sweet. Love the warbler-so pretty.

Here's a cute female House Sparrow.
