My my, you guys were really anxious to see this new bird in my yard. lol
He's not a lifer but a first in the yard.
Don't know if it's an immature or female, but a White-winged Crossbill it is.
Daily Bird Pics # 400
Wow Congratulations burn! Lovely shots of your different birds too.
Thanks for starting the new thread!
Great bird to have, burn!
Lily Love you were so funny in the last thread. Thank's for speeding it up on our behalf. LOL.
LOL, I am tickled we ALL get to see Burn's FOS Crossbill. Thanks burn for a nice start. Now that's a pretty way to start the weekend too. Ummm I need some java before I can find more pix to share. Have you got yours yet Mrs. Ed? lol
I'm not a Java girl, I'm an iced tea girl. And yep. Got it.
We're experiencing a cool front. So the outdoor is really pleasant this morning. So birders, wake up and enjoy the fabulous weather. In my backyard this juvie Housefinch is patiently waiting his turn at the feeder. Marna glad you've enjoyed your cup of Camelia herb (tea is made of camelia japonica). 8*)
Thanks, I'm hoping he'll continue his visit to the yard.
After all that build up, I thought it was going t be a Frigate-bird or a Blue-footed Booby or something rare. :-) A cross-bill?
It's cool here, too, lily. Excuse enough not to put out the mulch I bought yesterday. Maybe I'll just drive out to Lake Thunderbird and check out the birds today.
A Green Heron I shot over at Branson last week.
Nice shots Lily and red!
On the last thread,
Red, beautiful bunting photo.
Lily, beautiful purple bloom-a Datura? Love the goldfinches in the flowers and the rest of your birds too.
Mrs Ed, congrats on the new arrivals-cute siskin and dove.
Burn that evening grosbeak is gorgeous. Thank you for the new start. Congrats on the crossbill. It doesn't matter where that bird is, it's beautiful. Cute hairy wp.
Red, I'd get excited too if I got to see a crossbill in my yard. Love that green heron-such pretty colors. Of course, I'd get excited if I'd see your gorgeous tanager too.
The House Sparrows seem pretty busy with their nest building, this one is taking a break.
Well...that is a very nice 'new to the yard' bird burn! And I wasn't even close!!
Lily, your place looks so peaceful.
Very nice pics duc...love seeing the thrasher.
Red, you are getting some really great shots!! I may have to come to your house! lol
Nice start burn. I've never seen a White-winged Crossbill - thanks for sharing.
Lily - you ought to run that tree rat off so the little HOFIN can eat - lol.
red - "Another beautiful bird commonly overlooked", you're so right, that Mallard's green head is pretty. AND great capture of the Great Blue Heron in flight.
duc - I always enjoy seeing your tree swallows.
Hack
Kim neat little family pic of your Canada Geese.
Red, love those Tanagers. I can't wait, to see the Baltimore Oriole.
Duc great close up shot of the Thrasher. Your Tree Swallow seem very comfortable around you.
Hack, glad you got a pic of the hummingbird, to bad you had to delete the one of the female. But true they will come around again.
I thought the Starling had all left, but still have a straggler, addicted to suet.
Burn, did your Crossbill stick around? I hope so for you. I've to chuckle on your comment regarding the straggling, addicted Starling. That's too funny.
Duc, that happens to be a triple blooming datura. I'm conducting an experiment; to see if that very flower will make seedpod, if it does. I'll grow them out to find out whether or not they'll come true to its parentage. It will be a worthwhile project in the garden. Lots of HOSFIN here too. I love, love it when juevies are brought to the feeder, I just love their antic. So far I'm so disappointed that the Woodpeckers and Cardinals didn't bring their fledglings to the feeder. That made me think .... We're having an out break of Cicadas, the "Great Southern Brood" which only happens once every 13 years....so they're having a great feast with those Locust-like Cicadas outdoor. The noise they made are so deafening!!! They must occurs in thousands, if not hundreds of thousands in number. (Sorry folks for the off topic subject).
Red, the collection you've at Lake Thunderbirds are awesome!
Hack, glad to see your posting. LOL with you. Running my tree-rat away? Whoever would think of that? LOL, the truth to be known my DH would. Only I objected, so he doesn't. lol. For the reason that the lady that we bought the house from. Her mom used to feed Persy (The squirrels, and a few of his cousins) on the back deck. I thought, it's only right I treat Persy with care since he was here before my time. lol. I am with you on the beauty of Grackles, they're pretty on their own rights. lol. (So are Starlings for similiar reason).
(pardon; wrong pix).
Oh I just remember, Duc Western Thrashers have long curved beaks! Where as the Eastern species lack of. I've many juvies in the garden this time of year. It's so much fun to see them foraging on the ground, while the adults are still picking grass and stuff to build new nests.
