Very cool, Tony! Looks like it may only be a couple of days before you see blooms from some of those buds.

Nice bloom Tony. My vine from you is very healthy, just waiting for buds & blooms.

The purple one on vine 7 seems to have a hint f blue streaking, but it was very hard to snap with my camera.

Tony - It appears that there is no absolute determining factor(s) for what the blooms will look like? Or is there a gene pattern here and I am missing it completely? It seems to me that I. nils in particular perhaps have a multitude of genes in their pool and you never know for sure what you will get until you sow, grow, and watch what they produce. Stabilizing them is quite a job which doesn't always work no matter how many grow-outs you do? I've grown out several generations and the only thing I've determined for sure is that it is very hard to get a stable cultivar from seeds. This seems to be most true for I. nils more than any other species of MG.

Interesting experiment and results!

Tony,
Your grow-outs are amazing. I especially like your Pale Pink

Vine #4 from (Akatsuki no Umi x Early call pink, F2) is being selected for evaluation. I just love the super large blooms and it hasn't produced any rust yet, plus, it seems to have very high fertility in making seeds:-)

Lovely large blue bloom! How many are you going to be evaluating?

Norfolk, VA

1 from Akatsuki no Umi x E. call pink F2, and 3 from my 3 way cross. Vines number 6, 10, and 13. I just love the 2 shades of hot pink of a large-flowered phenotype. # 6 seemed to have a pink checker-like pattern contrasting against the bright red as the vine aged, sorry I missed it, my batteries went dead on me, BUMMER! Once I get new batteries, I'll get snap shots of the other 3 I selected. I have never seen a hot pink on a large-flowered MG before. I'm more used to the light and rose shades. I promise to take pictures when I happen to get new batteries:-)

Here is the one with the checker-like pattern with light pink accents in the center of the petal! magnificant:-)
The flowers tend to get these pattens as the plant matures. I also selected this one for evaluation.
