Pat, no need for embarrassment. I once gave Stephanie what I thought was blackfoot daisy that turned out to be a reseeding gomphrena! Now I have a liatris in that spot from you. (and many other lovelies every where else)
2011 N Central TX RU **What is this plant???? ** (ID Thread)
Thanks, Anna. :>)
And Anna, that plant just keeps giving and giving and giving every single year!
How aggressive is western ironweed?
Stephanie, that is the Scarlet Fruit Passion flower, Passiflora foetida, a very lovely native.

Cheryl the western Ironweed is not very aggressive, it does spread, but it takes a while.
Josephine.
Cheryl, the roots of the ironweed go very deep so you won't be moving it once it gets hold. But as Jo says it doesn't spread fast. I have a stand she started me with a plant probably 5 years ago and it is only 2 or 2 1/2 foot area now.
Thank you for identifying my plants! Off to label them so I won't have to ask again! LOL
I should have labeled them, but I had no tags and time was short.
I need to do the same today...it's on my list. I have already gone in and labeled the pictures. I was able to identify most of them by looking at my list of who promised what and looking them up on plantfiles.
Catz....I don't know how or why, but I ended up with a Black and Blue Salvia from you. I was offering them, sure didn't need another! LOL!! I will pass it on to someone later. ;-)
Sheila, pass it along to your neighbor! She needs plants for full sun. :)
Would that be the one that lives on the other side of 820? If so come get it!
Noooooooooooooooooooo!! LOL I already have my own!
LOL! Oh I bet you meant Marilyn that came to the swap. She lives in Burleson and I did give her one, but sure she would take another. Also have a young girl across the street that came over and is going to get things from me later. I am sure it will find a home.
Oh, Josephine....not the place to post this but it is a plant you gave me. My Passiflora Lutea survived the winter. I was concerned because it was so tiny, but it is up!!!
Josephine, how invasive is the primrose? Does it do well in extreme heat? I am thinking about putting it next to my garage that gets the western sun in the afternoons.
Glenna, your #2 pic looks like Perilla. Sheila had some. Do you remember getting it off her table?

I received about a 4" pot of perilla with good size plants but this little plant was in a plastic baggie along with a couple of coleus and don't know where it came from. Actually, most everything after lunch was a blur for me. I have multiple food allergies that cause my heartbeat to go crazy and I should never, ever eat at a potluck but just did not resist temptation. What is the saying about the definition of insanity is repeatedly doing the same thing and expecting different results! LOL.
Too bad about the allergy problem....bet you wish it would have just made your body heat up! LOL!
Perilla is in the coleus family....but someone offered curly leaf basil also if I remember.

Yeah. Unfortunately, it does the opposite, severe chills even on a hot day. And Sunday sure was not a hot day!!!
Well, that last little plant just may remain in the surprise category. Considering the many things I got home with that I had not pre-traded, pretty amazing.
I received a couple of very nice Vitex, from whom I do not know. But thank you. Anyway, am I correct that this is rather slow growing here in north central Texas? I have a location I want to plant it that gets full sun from 10:00 am on but wondering how close to the flagstone walk I could place it and not have to worry about it overgrowing the space in the near future.
Sheila I am glad the passiflora lutea survived, it is a small vine but very cute.

Stephanie, the Common primrose is a biennial and it blooms on the second year from seed, then it is done, it does reseed itself, but not too heavily, at least at my place.
It doesn't spread by runners like the other primrose, but it is a very interesting plant, it opens at dusk and you can actually stand there and see the yellow flowers open. The moths come at night to visit it.
Josephine.
I think Kate was the one who brought coleus in little baggies.
Newton's third law, I received Cowpen daisys from you and when I looked closer at the DG page, it says it likes alkaline, very alkaline and extremely alkaline soil. I dont think I have that condition anywhere. Is it true? Will they grow in neutral soil?
Cam, they pretty much grow anywhere in full or part sun. They can handle neglect, too.
Guilty as charged, I brought the coleus.

My photo above in Post #8538972, did I get that from you along with the coleus? Or maybe I stuck another in with them. I don't know.
Steady they are very easy to grow. Plant them in some sun and they will be happy. I had one last year in a very dry sandy bed that became a giant (5 ft.). This year the seedlings are starting to bloom but are much shorter.
DnP, I don't think so. The only thing I didn't have potted up was the coleus. If it's a coleus than it is me.
D&P, the #1 photo is a lantana, pink and yellow from me.
Thanks, Cam. I need lantana badly because all of mine died in the ice storm this year. I know they always come out late but this year not a one has shown any growth yet and I think it is time to give up.
Mine have not either Glenna, hope they aren't dead. I have the gold and gold/orange. Lost my pink and yellow several years ago. Glad you have shared with us Cam.
I hate to tell you, but my lantana is in full bloom already. Might be time to get some new ones...
My "mother" plants just recently came back from the hard freeze. The ones I gave were volunteers that I potted up a yr ago and wintered inside garage. I one that is orange and peach. It came back later than the pink/yellow.
I cut mine back to the ground would that be why?
I dont prune mine until spring growth starts. I guess that could be it. Might just take longer.
I prune my lantana in the fall but I leave 6 or 8 inches of stem, i do that with all my plants, helps me find them when they are dormant.
Here in this zone, the Lantana may keep going even after the frost. It takes a good hard freeze to burn the leaves off. It is difficult for me to prune something when it's just going gangbusters. That's why I wait. I had also read that dead stems are somewhat protective against freezes to the plant so I have that in mind also. Down here, the new leaves on the oak trees often have to push the old ones off. It's hard to tell which season here sometimes. Weve been raking leaves all the month of April where there were none before.
