2011 N Central TX RU **What is this plant???? ** (ID Thread)
Wow that's a bountiful bunch of plant's you got!
That wasn't even half of them! With the weather so cold and windy everyone was wanting someone to take everything home. I had a guest and she loaded her trunk full when we got back to the house, drove off smiling! We missed you this time.
Shelia, I got the twin to Marilyn's plant and mine is marked "Bishop Weed".
Kate
Kate....think it is this one? http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/546/
If so it may be a bit risky to plant. It has 31 negatives!!!!
I am sending her the link, and saying if she keeps it, make sure it is in a pot.

Sheila, have her smell the foliage. It look like cuban oregano. Someone had cuban oregano...I know, I kept smelling it.lol

I think that it is cuban oregano also.
That looks more like it to me, the leaves were not thick but definately not thin. I will tell her to test it out...thanks.
Hopefully the lady who brought it (can see her face but not her name) will chime in. I remember her mentioning that it was supposedly good for gout and in the link you posted Shelia I noticed someone referring to it as Gout Weed. I'm also thinking from reading the reviews that it wouldn't pose the same sorts of problems in our climate as in generally moister environments. That said, I'd say it's a "handle with care" plant, I'll probably put it in a container and see what it does.
Stephanie, I am sorry I didn't get to label them
#1 Ruellia Nudiflora
#3 Western ironweed
#4 Common Evening Primrose, Oenothera biennis.
#2 is not mine.
Josephine.
Stephanie....The number 2 is Scarlet Salvia from Kate, I got one also.
Thanks Kate on the "gout" reference....will see what Marilyn says on the smell also.
for any of you who got plants labelled "Cedar Sage" from me, it is not Cedar Sage. I think it is Lady in Red. Cedar sage does not have heart shaped leaves but rounded scalloped ones. The sage I shared with you is definitely a native taken from the wild in Rio Grande City, TX.
Well...I want a refund then!!! LOL!!
Thanks for the heads up Marty.
I was so shocked at the size of my plantains, I was expecting wee little pots! I will have to find a good place for them.
It is 2am I need to get to bed before I fall asleep at the keyboard.
The goutweed/cuban oregano was brought by the same person who had grown red yucca from seed. That's all I remember. dont remember her name but I think she was the first person at the labelled tables, the end closest to the pavilion. Hope that helps. They were in alphabetical order so she would be an "A".
Well the "A" was Arthagar but his "muffin" was named Linda. So I will dmail Art and see if he can give us a definate answer. Thank you Marty for remering that.
Josephine,
Does the downy scullcap grow best in sun or part sun? The sources I have read seem to indicate it can grow in either and is not picky about soil. It's a very pretty plant and I don't want to kill it.
C
Cheryl, I have mine in part sun, and yes it is beautiful, I hope to increase it enough to share with everyone.

Glenna, yes that is the Carolina Jessamine, there are two of them.
Yes, the tall ones are Cowpen daisy, and the lower one is a Violet.
Number 1 looks like rock rose.
#3 Pat is the Silky gold milkweed.
Yes, #4 is the salvia guaranitica sky blue.
Patrob, #2 looks like it could be the red flowered sage that I brought. Im not sure. It looks so much bigger than I brought but it might just be that the photo is really close up. I thot I had all mine labelled but labels do get dislodged. It was one of the things I promised to bring for you. I thot it was cedar sage but found out it is not. It is a native but not cedar sage. I apologize for mis-naming it. I'm still a novice at that skill. Cam
Patrob, every pot I brot was in a plastic bag (so it would have handles). I brot you one Pink ruellia but as I told you at the RU, the stem was broken in transit. Im pretty sure it did not have a label. However, I dont think the one I brought was that big.
Patricia.....That could be, def a petunia. But I had two tags in the pot, one with your name and one with the plant name and color. My petunias had been potted for a week or two and were getting the sun and wind already. The bag had your name on blue painter's tape, with small plants in a tray. Think my petunia was in hanging basket pot also.
Marty did you used the 6 cell pot for those? The one you gave me was single pot. It might be the red mountain sage from Dale also Pat, unless you have it identified already.
Also, #1 sure looks like turk's cap to me.

Sheila, I brought an "extra" of the sage in 6 cell but Im sure I had labels on that. It's the "extras" that are hard to remember who I gave them to.
Bet that one was from you then.
Pat...I also gave you an extra white petunia in a gal pot, but the leaves are wider than the pink or purple. Can't tell much in the picture.
I think someone handed me a rock rose as I was packing up to leave, and the leaves in photo #1 really do look like rock rose. We will find out for sure when it blooms!
Cam, not a problem on the cedar sage. I once gave Anna (bananna18) a plant that turned out to be a big weed thinking it was the mistflower that she was wanting. Now that was embarrassing. I'll grow out the little plants in photo #2 and find out what they are. The plant in photo #5 is bound to be the ruellia you brought me. It will be fine once it collects itself after being whipped by that sudden hard wind this afternoon.
Sheila, thank you. That helps. I do have a green hanging basket pot labeled pink ruellia/ Mexican petunia that must be from you along with the pot of white ruellia. The two salvias that Dale gave me are labeled.
What's a RU without a round or two of "Name That Plant!"
Thanks, everyone, for your help.
