I have shared elephant ears for years.....gifted to me from a neighbor.

So much of my garden has been given to me and I try to pay forward whenever I can. It is a gardeners favorite thing to do I think. To share from our abundance with another that loves plants; we can't throw our extras away without feeling guilty.

I received a lot of "formally named" iris from a co-worker of my DH. His German sheppard tore into several of his iris stock bags. Those have spread leaps and bounds and I will have to share them come fall RU.

suzq, I'm the one who sent the daylilies home with you. 'Bold Rankin' looks correct, though its unique color is hard to capture in a photo. 'Sammy Russell' does not look correct. If you'll post a closeup of the bloom, I'll try to figure out which one it really is. I can see that the plant is short, so that helps. 'Sammy Russell' is dark red true red and has a different shape.

My friend from GA asked me the same thing as I walked her around the yard this morning. "Why are you going to a swap...where are you going to put more plants?" She isn't a gardener and doesn't understand the obsession! LOL!

Hi patrob- I'll try to get a better photo for you, I'm just going with the names marked on the pots. I thought my Sammy Russell looked a deeper red than the photos in the PlantFiles; almost a purple, but maybe it's my camera. Anyway, here's a pic of the Butterscotch Ruffles. I love 'em all!

I also got to ID an unknown, the chinese foxglove. I have one blooming that was given to me as a datura and now I know what it is. I got it from someone at the RU last fall.

suzq, 'Butterscotch Ruffles' looks like it's happy where you planted it. It opens a lot of blossoms at once and increases rapidly, so even though I prefer big flowers, it's one of my favorites.

'Sammy Russel' has narrower, more pointed petals than the daylily in your photo, and it's a brick red, not purplish at all. I've found that some photos in Plant Files are misleading, as there is one there of 'Sammy Russell' taken in 2002 that looks purplish. All the other photos, however, are red. Along with a close-up photo, if you could tell me the diameter of the flower and height of the bloom scape (stalk), I believe I can tell you the real name.

Here's a closeup of the same bloom- hope it's close enough. New bloom is about 3.5 in. wide., stalk is about 18 in. high. It's still just a little more purple than brick red. Please let me know.

The closest match to your photo in my daylily database is 'Little Business.' Height, flower size, and color match pretty close, and I don't have many small daylilies. Plus 'Little Business' increases rapidly and was growing in the same area as 'Sammy Russell' when I dug all my daylilies.

Here's a link to a photo of 'Little Business": http://intheneighborhooddaylilies.com/images/LittleBusinesscopy.jpg When my 'Little Business' blooms, I'll compare it to your photo too. (It may be late or skip blooming this year since it is in a pot still waiting for its new bed to be finished.) If you look at the photos in Plant Files, you will see the color ranges from pinkish to red, depending on camera and growing conditions. I just wanted to correct the mistake in labeling in case you shared your daylily with anyone. I hate to pass a plant on with the wrong name.

Thanks for the info Pat. The picture on the link was a perfect match. I'll make a note of it too-someday I'll make it back to a RU. Sorry I missed the last one.

You are welcome, suzq. I hope to see you at an RU again before long!
