May pictures and chit chat

Chicago, IL(Zone 6a)

Well, I guess that everyone has gotten to that point eventually. A few years ago I tried passion flowers with little success and the day came when they all went into the garbage.

I have the policy that everything that doesn't like my conditions has to go sooner rather than later. Only few things get a second chance.

Limited growing space can be a blessing. It helps an addict make decisions. :)

BTW: The buds will turn from yellowish to a very light lavender just before they open.

This is one of last season's flowers:

Oh, well, still . . . that will look great!

Yes, I've had a pitching party or two in my time . . . I'm thinking I'll try listing a few to see what happens, then decide . . .

It's such an easy and rewarding species to grow. My first Sinningia. Started from seed last May or June. I have some seedlings from the plant in the picture. About 3 inches tall. You want some?

I usually pitch at least twice a year or whenever I run out of space. Fortunately there's DG and such... :)

Chirita micromusa. Bud. On the huge 8x5 inch cotyledon. Always good for a surprise, those Chiritas...

Here is a current pic of my Ozark 'Blazing Embers'. It's a top view, because that's the only way to see all the blooms on it!

Stunning, Nichole! Very nicely done!

The three sinningias I have seem to like being wicked and put on capillary matting . . .

Chicago, IL(Zone 6a)

Yep! My experience as well. I put two seedlings on wicks just for test purposes and they developed twice as fast as their unwicked brethren. It works very well for micro minis also.

Sinningia eumorpha 'Saltao'. Drum roll please...

Sinningia eumorpha 'Saltao'. This season's first flowers on this one. Its tuber has already doubled in size (at least) this cycle.

Saltao and that noid are so pretty.

Thanks Lynn!

I have so much Saltao seed in the fridge. I think, I'll start a batch for everyone on here. :) It's one of thos plants that IMHO everyone should grow. I also have some nice, little Sinningia guttata. Can't wait for them to grow up.

In a few weeks, my Sinningia speciosa seedlings should be blooming. Their buds are just starting to peek through the foliage.

A family portrait: Sinningia bullata (the father). Sinningia 'Yma' (the child). Sinningia muscicola (the mother).

It took Jim Steuerlein to get mom and dad to have such a pretty child. :)
