Nice shots everyone! It rains here 6 out of 7 days a week anymore. I have a couple of shots to share.
Black-crowned Night Heron
DAILY BIRD PICS VOL. 396
Great start to a new thread, thank you Pelle. Duc that last one pic. is begging for a caption. lol.
Great shots duc and Burd!
Duc, I adore that Hooded Oriole!! Glad the Flycatcher and Kingbird have arrived.
Burd, Love the Terns and Heron!
duc, you have some good birds. I've had my oriole feeder with grape jelly out for a couple of weeks, but no takers. Got the first report of painted and indigos around here yesterday.
Wish I could get some light here. It's been raining ever since I got my 7d on Friday. We will try this scissor-tail shot, not sure how good the quality is when enlarged here. Taken in the rain yesterday.
Burd, wow how did you do it? Having loaded many frames while I tried to post one short post without pix even! Red, love those scissor-tails. I haven't seen on one in person here.

Its been raining here for forever it seems, we put out our Hummingbird feeder today, don't know if there are any around this area yet, a friend who lives in Troy, Ohio had his first hummer. We did not make the same mistake this year as we did last year, we only put a small amount in it. It is red and a tube type with 6 ports which I have NEVER seen more than one on it at a time, Have seen a woodpecker and hummer on it at the same time though. I just hope the bigger woodpeckers do not try to get on it, they would break it.
Burd, fantastic capture of the night heron-so clear. Right place, right time on the falcon and teal-great job, but sorry for the poor teal. Love that fluffed head on the merganser.
Red, congratulations on the new 7D, hope you enjoy playing with it. Great shot of the scissor-tail with the rain.
Teddy, best wishes that your hummer shows up soon.
The first time I saw a kingbird, it was harrassing an osprey. The kingbird showed red at the crown, and that was the IDing factor. I thought they, like the kinglets, showed the red when agitated or excited.
Resin?

Yep, that's right.
Resin
Nice ones Burn.
Thanks Lily.
Ah, now I get, all the Juncos went to see Burn. lol.
Lol, sad thing is, they`ll be leaving me in a couple of weeks to go make babies, further up.
Thanks Resin!
Wonderful contributions, everyone!
burn, does that robin eat seed??, or do you have fruit on your deck feeder?
That robin could have had a feast on my patio yesterday. With the rain, it was covered with earthworms. Sun came out yesterday afternoon and now I have dead worms stuck to the patio. Looks like I will have to get out the garden hose and broom today.
The BB babies haven't fledged, but are getting close. The parents don't go inside the box to feed them now, just land and a baby will be waiting at the entrance to get the bug. A pic of one peering out after Daddy delivered a meal and landed on the box.

That is so cool Mrs. Ed. Thanks for sharing as I doubt I will be googling anything today!
Beautiful pics everyone! Love that Wood Duck Burd! Duc, cool flycatcher. There's supposed to be a rare flycatcher on the coast. I'm going out there this afternoon, but doubt it will still be there. Red, love the BBs!
Can y'all clear something up for me? I have always called the babes that have just left the nest "fledglings." My book indicates that they are fledged when they are still in the nest but can't fly. That doesn't seem right to me. What do you call the youngsters that are flying around although not well and are still being fed by their parents?
Adel, you're so lucky to see the sapsuckers-I'm still searching for my first one here.
Tiger and Resin, thanks for the lesson on the kingbirds.
Nanny, glad to see you're back with us. Cute photos of the song sparrow, dee and the pretty sapsucker.
Burn, glad that waxwing looks better. Cute robin, pigeon and sparrow shots.
Lily, at least you know your juncos have found a good home! lol Cute wren.
Red, that bb baby looks so cute poking its head out.
Elphaba, I've wondered about that too and no one has ever corrected me. Hope someone will answer.
Most of my Brewer's Blackbirds have left, but there's still this male and a female that come to the feeders.
Great pictures everyone. I had to go back to the coast to see my Dr and really got behind here to look at the photos. Anyway now I am allowed to drive my car, walk without using walker or cane, and feeling nearly back to normal.
We have not gotten any rain here at my house, so now have to irrigate. Weather was really warm over Easter weekend. Sat.. up to 71 degrees, our warmest so far. However still cold at night so am having to move my 5 Tomato plants that are in 1 gal. containers in and out each night.
Have not seen any Orioles, but some bird is eating the grape jelly and cleaning up the half/orange. I am not putting out any more Chicken Scratch (mix of cracked corn and wheat), used for quail. The reason being that only the White Crowned sparrows are coming to eat. I am trying to keep them away. Two years ago they clipped off every bloom from my large cherry tree.
Thanks again everyone for taking and sending along the great bird photos.
Donna
