OMG! That is sooooo cool Linda!
Thanks Elphaba. This nest contains a third egg that I believe was laid by a second Mom. The babies have been lying on it since they were about a week old. Their Mom finally chased off the second Mom. I fear the third egg will not hatch. A picture of this nest with the third egg was posted on an earlier thread, for me, by Margaret who I had sent that photo to.
Elphaba, Great start to the new thread! Love those Warblers and the Vireo!
Linda, That is so great! Congratulations! The pic is so good too.
Elphaba, love seeing so many Warblers, thanks for a wonderful start.
Oh Linda, What a precious ornament they make. So lovely!!!
Hi Linda! On what did they build that nest, and how is it attached to the window/wall?
Very nice start Elphaba!!
Cool Linda!! Would love to get to watch hummer babies at my house!
Mrs. Ed...I will be waiting for you to pick up to go to Cape May...we might as well stop and get Granny Grunt too since she is on the way! lol
That's right! GG will be waiting for us! Hey, don't forget we're going to rent a house. Wasn't linth and his DW going to meet us?
I thinks so...yeah got have a house! lol
Good start, elphaba. What does 'elphaba' mean anyway? I think I recognize those mulberry trees. A pretty good spot, huh?
I got a Black-capped Vireo yesterday at Lake Stanley Draper. Not a lot of people know they hang out on the east side in the summer. It was a male in breeding colors. No pic, though.
Pine Siskens and goldfinches on the millet/nyger mix.
I smooshed some peanut butter on the tree and mama found it, maybe the other will too, it is just an experiment and if it don't work I will not do it anymore. Papa and mama red-bellied wps have been coming around a lot, I think they like the suet I put out. If the peanut butter does not attract them maybe the ants that it attracts will.
Elphaba, thanks for starting us off with such great photos of birds I never get to see-they're all wonderful.
Great photos on that last thread.
Quietyard, you are so blessed to be able to watch those adorable hummer babies each day. Your photo is beautiful.
Red, congrats on the vireo sighting! Hope you got some photos for us. Love your Pine Siskins.
Teddy, great idea and I'm glad it worked.
I have to show older photos as I've gotten behind downloading photos. Here's one of my female Bullock's Orioles.

Very nice pics red, teddy and duc!
Teddy, Looks like you have some very large trees there. I've tried this same thing a few years ago but our many squirrels seem to get the most benefit.
I haven't seen any Dark-eyed Junco in a week. Have others noticed they are gone?
The Juncos, pelle where do they go for the summer? I haven't seen mine in weeks!
I am still having a junco or two a day. Not near the numbers as last week though
They go North when the weather gets warmer.
Love the oriole! I'm so hungry for spring migrating birds! This time last year I had orioles in the backyard and buntings and tanagers. Nothin' this year. It's just killin' me!
Red, congrats on the black-capped vireo! Elphaba is the name of the Wicked Witch of the West. She's green, so she has a green thumb -- get it?! I don't really have a green thumb anymore. Two years of drought and hard freezes and my thumb is only green with envy of people with sprinkler systems who live south of I 10!
Here are a couple of juvi Yellow-crowned Night Herons. Saw some baby alligators too. I just love them. They are so sassy lookin' even though they're only a foot long!
Elphaba nice on the Prothornatory Warbler and the White-eye Vireo (love their song).
Reddirtretiree, I just placed that same feeder in my Moms yard because the Squirrels were killing the food and keeping the little birdies away. Does it work? I ask because I am not their to watch my Moms feeders.
Teddy, the WPs will love you if put out peanut butter, but they will love you even more if you use the kind with peanunts in it or mix peanuts and seeds in it. You may get some Wrens, too.
Duc, I see your Orioles are back...nice shot.
Here's a lifer for me - Blue-headed Vireo
Yes, the feeder works ok, methodical. A lot cheaper than the squirrel buster models, too. I have white millet out in two feeders, hoping to attract some Indigo or Painted Buntings. I've seen a few OK sightings recently. I bought a water urn that has rocks in top and flows down the sides, thinking the birds will like it too. I'll post a pic soon. Hopefully there will be an improvement in my pics soon. I ordered a Canon 7d and a a couple of lenses. My wife thought it was way too much money for a camera. I didn't tell her I've paid more for shotguns. :-)
The BB babies are 13-days old today, so last pic until they fledge.
Nice shot of the Blue-headed Vireo! BTW, I used to have that feeder too. It worked great against the squirrels but not the rats. The leaf would close over the hole and the rats would just chew through the plastic and make their own hole. If you don't have to worry about rodents, then it's a great feeder.
Red, excellent Willet shot! A friend of mine told me about a place called Paradise Pond? I've already forgotten which NWR it's in, but he described it as having all of Boy Scout woods birds in 1/8 the amount of area. I think it's a lot further away though.
I just almost took my best shot of a house finch ever. Unfortunately, he has a bit of dead thing covering his face. I accidentally had the macro setting on. Didn't even know I could use full zoom with macro. He was right outside my window, but it never occurred to me to use the macro setting before. Now, I have to rethink everything!
Love the Night Heron juvies Elphaba!
Good one of the Willet red!
Congrats everyone with a new lifer. The Blue-headed Vireo is really charming. How I missed my Goldfinches. Hah, I just put out a nijer feeder, hope they'll stop by here. So happy for you red that the BBs babies are doing just so well. Love those Juvie Yellow-crowned Night Herons Elfy--I so like your moniker by the way. Hope the drought ends soon and you'll get some gentle rain for the garden and green-ify your thump once again. :)
editted for typo.

Elphaba, cute photo of the night herons. That's a great shot of the finch!
Met, congratulations on the new vireo! It sure is a beauty.
Red, great shot of the willet. The bb babies are growing way too fast-so sweet. Love the goldfinch shot-so pretty. Congratulations on that 7D, I'm sure you'll love it.
Lily, glad to hear the new suet is drawing so many birds for you. Love the wp!
Thank you all for the nice comments on my hummingbirds ! The two babies left the nest today. Left behind was not one egg in the nest but two. Either Mom #1 laid a total of four eggs with a week between the layings or the second female that kept trying to take over the nest laid them. I do not think they have a chance of surviving. No one is sitting on the nest now though Mom # 1 turned them a few times this morning after the babies left and she could see what had been under them.
Mrs_Ed the nest was built on a hanging art work of glass butterflies. It is hooked to the ceiling and hangs freely, so it does sway in the breeze. She attached the nest to a bottom ring. She used lots of spider webs that are abundant on the ceiling of our patio, plus she went into a patio green house when it was open and grabbed webs from there. The feeder was just a few feet to the side of the nest and a fountain of water was under the feeder. She had an ideal location it seems for her home.
I am attaching a photo of one of the babies right after it left the nest today.
Linda
Aww very cute! Congrats on the successful fledges! Sounds like a perfect place for Mom to raise her young.
Nice pics Lily and Nan!
