Sneaks in to vent...............Ok guys and gals. No rain here since Feb. and that was only for one day and it came down in the form of sleet for about an hour or 2.
I found huge dry patches and great big cracks in my lawn. The soil here is nothing to be desired to begin with. It's that nasty rock hard blackish grey clay. I just love havin' black bricks for a lawn... Don't You?
Good luck to everyone I see posting here. Now, should we call a shaman???

Central Texas Rain Dance "feel free to vent"
I think everyone should go out and wash their cars! Doesn't that alway make it rain? Too bad some of that flood water can't be trucked in... it kills me to see all that water going to waste... I know.. it is terrible to see peoples misery but we NEED the water. I know I was not supposed to but I had the hose in my hand yesterday and did wash some of the dirt off a few of my bushed.. could not stop myself.. I could actually hear the bushes thanking me.
I am closing in on the 4 month mark with no rain. I think it will be the 16th.
I have to look forward to the 20-30 percent chance Wed/Thurs and Sunday.
We had that two day event where we had 60 percent but not a drop fell.
Times are tough!
please please please please please please
Juju and Lily, I hope to read early tomorrow that y'all got rain. We've had a nice shower the last hour up here and right now Weather.com shows a line of thunderstorms all the way down to y'all, so I'm hoping you break that glass wall or ceiling or whatever it is and get some rain.
It jumped the house in town but looks like I received .1 to .25 of an inch at the orchard. A quarter inch doesnt sound like much but at least I know I dont have a forcefield over the land.
At least that's a start. After examining it this morning, we didn't get as much as it sounded like last night. Just enough to settle the dust but anything is welcome.
nothing here...they were talking last night on the news about no rain since September here so I know I am not crazy and it really has been that long. I was just on the phone with the utility company about my sewer rates.. they have doubled because I used more water over the winter watering my yard.. they determine they rates over the winter because they assume no one uses much water in the winter.. well I do water my yard in the winter too! I am so angry!
Lordy!
We didnt get any today really but it looks like 6 inches plus just north of Austin.
We still have tomorrow.
Lee, I hope you do get some rain, we finally go 1.5 yesterday.
It's all staying north of our zone-or east, I was in shock at how brittle everything was, that little area Juju is? USED to be that dry, but has been very wet until recently, I do wonder what they are predicting for the summer in hurricanes- I was only at the house for abt 34 hrs- took a granddaughter to the DR for her mom, earache that netted antibiotics. The tornado damages in Alabama look devastating, we are hearing a lot of stories over here about all the families still searching for kids that are being found 20 miles away...
ROUND TWO
please please please please please
HURRAY!!!!!
YIPPEE!!!!!
HAPPINESS ABOUNDS!!!!
Congrats on the rain, Juju/Lee. There is nothing like a good, long, soaking rain to brighten the mood. May your fruit trees enjoy the liquid happiness. :-)
Carla
So happy y'all finally got some rain.
It is heading south so lets hope it says together for them.
DOUBLE YIPEE!!
We've had two and a half inches so far. I'm happy!
My rain gauge says 2.73". Hurray!!!! Now I'm impatient for the grass to grow out in the pastures. However, if we don't get some later, it will go dormant again. The bad news is that it's too late to overseed for summer grasses to make up for the natives that died due to the drought. Ah well, at least the Bermudas will come up.
My Jujube trees just stopped flowering so I missed my crop unless they put on a second flush but I dont care today. I received 1.25 at home and 1.3 at the orchard. This weather should be really nice all week and I probably wont have to water for another 10 days.
OH MY GOD!!!!
I might have to break out the lawnmower soon.
Yay!!!
We got a whole 45 min. of rain yesterday, but it was a nice rain. The birds all went crazy bathing in puddles, even the hummers were dancing around in it as it fell. It's been 4 months since we saw liquid and it was awesome. It felt like the temperature dropped 30 degrees in less than 2 minuets. I sat outside and just relaxed. Even walked around in it a bit and got refreshed myself.
Wish we could get some more.....
Total for us here was an official 2.96" of rain...a record. We got 4" at Lake LBJ house. We'll definitely be mowing sometime this weekend!
We had a calf born yesterday. Not sure whether before or after the storm. It could be that the storm scared the calf out of the cow. LOL
Well, the lightning scared me outta my bedroom! The lights went off briefly, and then something popped when they came back on...
Poor cow, what a way to have a calf.... in the rain....
Lee, I am so happy that you got some rain!!!
big smiles! fig is lookin good, and I like ur wifes name, hehehe
Lucky you ~ rain, a lovely wife and a lucious looking fig. But I do believe there will be a bite out of it next time you check it... lol
Question please... do fig trees bloom? I have watched my puny little brown turkey fig like a hawk. Never saw a blossum but today I found two tiny figs on it. Any thoughts?
Actually a fig is an inside out bloom, the flowers are inside the fig, that is why you don't see blooms.
Very interesting fruit.

Thanks ! I appreciate the education as I've no fig experience other than feasting on them.
No bite out of that Fig yet but it is coming.
Did your pineapple guava do well this year? Mine had far less blooms and the top branches look a little puny. Can I give it a trim now that it's bloomed? There was no fruit, even though I bought another one last year for pollination purposes..
Did all your blooms fall off? They should ripen in October. On my big bushes, I had two flower well and one not so good. I have about 10 Vista Giant varieties in pots and purchased many other smaller named varieties off the internet. They are pretty small.
I also was shipped about 20 seedlings and many seeds from a Pineapple Guava specialist that has been cultivating new varieties for 35 years. He wants to test some of them here in Texas since we have hotter summers.
I hope I start getting the fruit from the named varieties next year for taste comparison.
Mine had some freeze damage to the leaves, and never produced flowers at all this year.
Congratulations on the rain....... at least I got the pleasure of hearing about it... we will get a little humidity from your direction tonight.. all rain will be to the east of us.. AGAIN! Our humidity has actually been as low as 2% some days and I thin that is coming from the evaporation of everyone watering their potted plants in the daytime.. we are not allowed to water yards until after 6pm. LOL
DFW, it must have been below 10F to get damage to the leaves. I hope you get a crop next year. I just ate the last of the blossoms on my bushes. They are really good when they get a bit wrinkly.
Lhasa, I hope you get some soon. It is so frustrating when it passes you over. I checked the soil for moisture in the yard and the high ground has already dried up. I guess it is filling in the gaps down deep. We have 20 percent Thursday-Sunday in San Marcos. Anything helps.
While I was in Monahans, I got to hear some of the stories about the Marfa Rock House fires, and yeah the humidity is zip out there, my hair I coated with hand lotion since it was actively knotting itself into untangleable rats...
I'll check in the morning, but I'm fairly sure all the blossoms are gone...had a few late blooms, but last year the tree was spectacular. I guess I should just be grateful it survived. It's never had fruit. The new little one had some fruit on it this past fall.
We have received about .01 rain but it has been overcast and drizzling all day. I went outside and pretended I lived in Seattle. I hope tomorrow brings more as Austin has a 70 percent chance of rain on some news stations.
No rain here in FW today, but it has been overcast all day which helps with evap. of potted plants. Glad you guys got some rain in the south...know you need lots more. Great picture of Katinka and the fig too!
We had a 30% chance of rain this evening... doesn't look like it is going to 30%... darn.. sure was hoping.
