Paul, you may want to run a scan of your system and clear your browser's cache and cookies, then re-login. On your profile, it indicates you shouldn't be getting any ads other than the premium/sponsored ads.

Do you have a pop-up blocker in place? (I do in my Firefox set-up and it's great...occasionally I have to override it for something, but otherwise I browse the entire web in blissful ignorance of popups.
