Besides Gardening, Cricket, Tennis, Homeopathy, Philately and Numismatics are my favourite hobbies. These days, the last two have taken a back-seat. I have a collection of flowers on stamps as well.
What're your other favourite hobbies?
I love model railroads I collect CSX and B&O Engines. I also love to go out and watch the trains. Birding is also a favorite.
Gardening, baking and cooking, sewing, animal husbandry, collecting bears, writing, reading any printed matter.
:)
Sue
Reading was my favorite BDG (before Dave's Garden). Now it is READING about gardening...and POSTING on DG. Do like to sew and craft. Jo
Quilting, tatting, birds, reading, history.
Bob Ross style painting, cross stitching, crocheting, cooking new recipes, and playing video games occasionally.
quilting, photography, READING, chasing Jess around...
Other than surfing the net and gardening, I'd say I have no other hobbies. Call it a boring life, but I love it. You can save a lot of money by living the "boring life"...it suits me well.
model railroading, I especially collect Lackawanna and Erie stuff, stained glass and birdwatching and rooting for the Giants.
I make crystal bead spiders.... they are like.... well we call them sun catchers.. you hang them in the window and the crystal sparkles in the light.... they are really neat.. and not as yukky as those garden spiders!
I love to make birdhouses, cross stitch, crochet, read, paint......and of course GARDEN!
"eyes"
There are hobbies other than plants? LOL
Cindy
I enjoy birdwatching, needlework and taking pictures.
Some of my other hobbies are birding (started gardening to attract more birds to my yard), computers, reading, needlework, hiking, and learning new things.

Reading! I love to read anything I can get my hands on! Also, leatherwork, beadwork, crocheting, knitting and teaching my dogs neat tricks. Instead of handing me their paws when I say "shake", they put their muzzle in my hand and I shake it. ;-) I'm working on "right and left" ~ getting them to know which paw is which when I want to "shake" in the usual way.
I didnt think there was anything else other than gardening...LOL
I love to read still...Stephen King is one of my favorites! I also like anything about Authurian Legend. The Mists of Avalon , was the best peice of fiction UI have read in a long time....Stephen Lawhead, The Pendragon Cycle comes in Second.
I also like to paint...I haven't painted anything since I had children...that is about to change I do believe. I really want to do a portait of the children.
kikisdad, sounds like we have a lot in common. You were doning great until you mentioned the Giants. Diehard Redskins fan here. I guess I can over look that one mistake on your post. It must have been a missprint or something like that:-)
I was a design major in college and I love all forms of art. There aren't many I haven't tried.Photography is probably the number 1 medium that I use now.Although I do still use pen and ink every now and then.Fabric arts(mom is a tour guide at the Museum of the American Quilter's Society)is fun too.
Laura,I've made the crystal spiders too.I give them for Christmas gifts.Have you heard the Legend of the Christmas Spider? You're supposed to hang one on your tree.I'll tell the story on another thread sometime.
Geneology is another intrest that I have and our family has done extensive research into our past. We've got a couple of lines that go back into into the 800's!I guess researching our history and my heirloom veggie passion sort of evolved around each other.
I love to read and really enjoy Tom Clancy,Leon Uris,James A Michiner ,Isaac Isamov and Arthur C. Clarke.
I can also name most of the stars that you can see at night.
Birding, got lots of bird feeders and bird houses, love to watch them. Also philately, that is stamp collecting. Thats the rainy, cold weather occupation. Just pulled out the old stamp album again, the BF is going to get me a new one for Christmas. Hey Dinu, got any stamps you want to trade?
I am interested in so many things that I don't have time for them all. crafts, birding, collecting postcards (Hint) cooking, reading, caving, movies music (all), but country classics are best, watching ice skating ,ballroom dancing see what I mean? The list goes on.....I love current events!
Wow, Melody.. I thought I was doing good to have family back tot he early 1600's!! My aunt has done most of the work, but i have been researching my husband's family name too recently. His family came from Baden, Germany.
Good day... uhm, dare I admit it, but gardening is actually, uhem, way down on my list of hobbies? When I did System Administration, sleep was my favorite hobby. These days raising kids is my favorite and most time consuming hobby ;-) I'd say photography (especially of plants) and reading (just about any topic - interests change with the cycles of the moon and seasons and such), writing and then traveling... hopefully I will someday have hobby goats, cows and swine, but for now, my hobby pet is an un-named Chilean Rose tarantula...
...don't watch much baseball these days, but I was a Giants fan - when BOBBY Bonds was playing for San Francisco (My sister & I were totally in love with Chris Spier(sp?), but that's another story)... Dad's a 49er fan and Mom's a Raider Fan (never believed they actually left Oakland) - they had/have a very loud marriage - especially during football season :-)
Hey gardenhubby thet there warn't no misprint! But better a redskin fan than a Cowboy. Anyway anyone who is fascinated with railroading is my kinda guy or gal. Do you have a working layout or just collect?
I was wondering why CoCo hasn't responded to this yet, but then I saw the previous post putting down the Cowboys. ;-) She probably didnt want to start a Cowboys riot here on DG!
Anyway, my other hobbies are: music (playing the violin, listening to music, music videos, etc), art (looking at art, collecting my favorite pieces, sketching, etc), watching sports, especially hockey <<
Nobody has mentioned horseback riding. I am specifically into endurance riding which is like marathons done on horseback. I read a lot in the winter, I enjoy true life adventures and biography. Birdwatching is enjoyable but I don't know much about it, I just try to identify the ones that visit our yard and fields.
Reading fiction, cross stitch, crocheting, trying new recipes, walking the dogs (straight up a mountain with lots of trees - whew!) but....as Claude Monet once said..."Flowers, I must have flowers" :-) vic
This is really a hard question for me, now let me think............... GARDENING, GARDENING, GARDENING, GARDENING AND I GUESS GARDENING!!!!!!!!
I DO ALSO LIKE TO READ, ABOUT GARDENING!!!!!!!!!!
SUE
OH MY I ALMOST FORGOT I LOVE TO SHOP! FOR GARDEN STUFF!!!!!!!
Making quilts by hand, collecting cookbooks, cups and saucers, Christmas plates, pressed glass, English dishes, reading trashy romances, British History, Travel books, Poetry, geneology, etc!
I used to cross stitch, no time now, always here. uhmmm I really love to do pysanky eggs. I would love to learn how to Tat..I saw that Caroline does that and I was wishing she lived closer to me to show me how. I also want to learn how to do stained glass as soon as my 3 yr. old gets a little older. (can't have her 'helping' me) I also love to cook and bake.
I am really into scrapbooking my family photos, I like to read, and I love to look for interesting tidbits of information that I don't know, especially gardening info.
Joan
Hey vic, it sounds like we have some things in common except for walking the dogs straight up mountains. I like to walk my dogs but not straight up mountains.:) I like to walk/climb up Pikes Peak here.
Lisa, I learned how to do stained glass many years ago, have had the stuff packed away for years, I guess I should haul it out this winter and make something during the cabin fever season. I have no artistic talent, but this way I can make something pretty using a pattern someone else made. The glass is really beautiful. I made a trees and sky picture, the sky peices have streaky clouds in them. The tree trunks are brown textured glass. I've thought of making an all clear glass window using the frosty looking and seedy looking glass. We lived in a house with an old original stained glass window, it was so neat, I wished we could have taken the window with us when we moved, but now I know how to make one!
Ummmm, you mean there are hobbies other than gardening???? Wow! Giggle. Well, here's a list of things I used to do - does that count?
Cross-stitch, sewing and crocheting - but haven't done any of them for over 10 years (stopped when I started working full-time, haven't picked them back up now that I'm home)
Reading - I used to devour a lot of fiction - Patricia Cornwell, Tom Clancy, Anne Tyler, Pat Conroy, and a few other authors. But now my library card and discount book card are used more for gardening books than anything else.
Love to cook and bake, especially homemade pastas and sweets. I think I could almost live off those two food groups - they ARE their own food groups, right????
I do collect antique tea cups, thanks to a small collection started for me by a dear great aunt. I also have a nice collection of FiestaWare that originally belonged to my great grandmother. I add to it when I find pieces I like, in my price range. And I keep an eye open for antique children's books.
DH likes antique shopping/junking with me, he looks for old sporting goods stuff while I look at everything else! Photography is a relatively new interest for me, but I have a long ways to go before I consider myself a "photographer".
HATE cooking (DH is the greatest cook!) Love eating though! Also gardening, growing houseplants, flea-marketing & garage-sailing, needlecrafts & crocheting (not that I have time anymore) and I enjoy using my old fountain pens when I have a chance.

kikisdad,
Right now I just collect but hope to build a layout some day. I have to clean the basement first though.
Howie
Cleaning that basement is a big deterrant (had to chime in, here). Other than the obvious, I love the Internet, reading, scrapbooking, pen & ink drawing, computer graphics, writing, photography, and birding. I don't collect any certain thing, although I do love old plates with hand-painted florals, wooden carvings of cats, and birdhouses. DH and I are kinda eclectic!
Reading, quilting and historic preservation. The historic preservation has turned into part-time work also, this year. I was the founding president of the local historical society 14 years ago, served as president twice, then as a board member for many years. I took 2 years off, and went back as recording secretary, but they were having trouble keeping up with events, publicity, etc., and I told them they had been needing a staff person for 10 years, so they asked me if I would do it. I now work 3 afternoons a week (not enough)for them but have a morning job 5 days a week running a senior citizen's mealsite program. That one is a killer, taking care of 30+ seniors for 4 hours all by myself. I hope to phase that job out in the spring and become a consultant to nominate historic structures for the National Register of Historic Places. All I need is a lot of self discipline to work in a timely manner by myself, lol.
Gosh... I'm interested in (and do) so many things... so maybe my hobby is learning to do NEW things! I may not want to do them forever, but I LOVE learning about new things... which can be as simple as learning to cook with a new (to me) kind of mushroom... or learning to use a new tool... or learning a new word.
