Would love to check the spelling on those JM's!! ^_^

Pronunciation key??
I would love a pronunciation key, there is so much I have no idea how to say it.
Thanks for the info Victor, I think I will go with the 24" height.
JoAnn, I haven't mentioned the extra garden outside the back yard yet, waiting for the best timing! I did ask to put a raised bed behind the fenced area and my response was how will I get the tractor around it.
You're welcome, Deb. I posted last year how funny it was when Bill and I speak with David, who sells the JM's. His mid-western accent, my NY one and Bill's Boston one. Probably sounded like three entirely different trees!!
I was at GroMoore again today and there was a customer that kept asking for an asia pear tree, she had to repeat it about 10 times, I thought she was saying acer, the worker kept saying something else, she finally spelled it. They didn't have it whatever it is.
Probably an Asian pear....my Mom has one, but the squirrels get all the fruit! Sounds like some great projects in the works....I bought some top soil today for my new DL bed.....
Or an 'aging pair'??? ^_^
fine gardening website has a pronunciation guide for plants
http://www.finegardening.com/pguide/pronunciation-guide-to-botanical-latin.aspx
is that a hint Jen.. LOL... I resemble that remark
:)
Got more work done today after having spent all morning into the early afternoon on paperwork for my job. I sure hate when my job interferes with my personal life. Anyhow, around 2 I finally got outside and did more clean-up work. Cleaned up 2 more sales areas. One area that I did on Saturday I changed around. I'd had a couple of long boards on concrete blocks, and they were all rotting out. I took those out of there and moved a makeshift table over there that will hold a lot more plants. This is for all my shade plants, and hostas will go on the ground in front of the table. Maybe tomorrow I can get a shot of how it looks now. I took a pic of how it looked before on Saturday. Will show that pic once I get the 'after' shot.
Patti, you're busy, busy, as usual. Sorry your knee is bothering you so much. I can sympathize with you, going through my own pain with my arthritic ankle.
Yay for a clean greenhouse, Sherrie!!!!!!
Love the commercial, Jo! Very good! Amazing that they actually did that. That should be made into a movie. Love your dream fantasy. ;-)
Jen, I have that hamamelis 'Diane'. Really nice! Go for it! Get the redbud, too. That's a great one. Study Bill's gardens for neatness!!!! Nice to know there's a place on the web for pronunciation of plant names.
Debi, speaking of raised beds, I saw a great idea in the most recent Garden Gate magazine for making raised beds. Take the drawers out of an old bureau and place them back to back, first removing the bottoms. Fill with soil, and you have ready-made beds. Nice way to reuse an old bureau. Of course you already have the supplies to make them, but this is a nice idea for someone who might not. As to height, I think 12" is good. The less bending over I have to do, the better.
Karen
Karen, I actually saw an old dresser someone was trashing on the side of the road and thought about picking it up to do just that.
Go for it! I think I'll do that if I find one. Problem is, though, I wouldn't be able to fit it in my car!
Karen
I was walking my dog at the time...
LOL! Sure couldn't get it then.
Karen
Karen, I saw that too in Garden Gate. My hubby would never let me do that, he's such a traditionalist
Thanks for being an enabler! LOL So what do you think? The hamamelis, in the back and the red bud the other end of the berm?
I use that pronunciation guide ALL the time
If you're going with a witch hazel, pick one with good fall color too. What goes in really comes down to taste. Mixing heights, colors, foliage, forms and textures always improves the design.
Victor, and that's my problem my tastes are sooooo eclectic I like everything!!! so that's why I'm having a rough time deciding.
I know that feeling!
You should see my coffee table in the living room...I have plans and catalogs spread all over it, I had to walk away this morning cause I was driving myself nuts.
What I do now in those situations, is eliminate based on what's giving me the most of what I want. For me, that's first multi-season interest first. It can be different things for different people. Start eliminating by traits - this one's foliage is not that good, the flowers don't last too long, etc.
Good advice
Deb: I thought I had a good thing going with Bonnie at Gro-More .Last year she said she had Astilbe Ostrich plume comming in and would call me when it did. I stopped by many times in the next few weeks but not in was the answer.
I never did get the plant and passed it up when I saw it at Oriental Garden Supply.
I wont do a special deal with her again. Gro-More had ordered them and I was to have 3 savedfor me but na-da plants.
I only buy what I can see that they have.
I did see some nice Hollyhocks and Gallery Lupines, last Thursday when I wa in just ahead of you.
I did buy some quart perennials yesterday, wanted to be sure I got what I wanted now that the weather is warming up, people will be buying.
I bought Veronica Crater Lake Blue, some heuchera and lupines. Also picked up seed potatoes.
Sorry you didn't get the astible you wanted from them, but glad you found it. Where is OGS?
Veronica Crater Lake Blue is beautiful! I owned it several years ago, it petered out on me after about 4 years so I just ordered another this spring too :)
Its in this area. Lots of JM's and some perennials.Beautiful layout. They put my fountain in.

Deer ate half my Chinatown tulips. Its the only place I didnt spray.
Dont tell me "they were here first"
They werent here in such huge consentrations. Native Americans would have been filled with joy to see 4 or 12 deer wandering thru their village.
Yes, and they would of ate well too :)
No more day long hunting parties for protien.
Does Veronica Crater Lake have one eye covered by the petals?? ^_^
victor regarding your Pronunciation comment - my stock answer is "it is exactly as it is written"
got the yard fertilized last night and all the "other" tree names onto the marker. also was notified by diana over at topiary gardens my jm order is in the mail. told her i was looking forward to getting them - her response back was if she was getting these trees she would be looking forward to them too - so now i am really looking forward to them.
Of course! My son dug out all my veronica, and I need more, but not sure what I want. I hate one of my perennial beds, just can't seem to get it looking decent.....it has too much shade for one thing, but I'm reluctant to cut down the crab shading it.....
Bill, exciting news about the JMs...take photos so we can share....
Wha, Mine are shipping from Topiary on the 18th. But she didn't say mine were special, but I am not as good a customer as Bill. Can't wait to compare photo's. Patti
she only said she would be excited if they were her trees - of course they were her trees so it is up to the imagination??
I never have plans on paper. Always in my head. And often when I buy plants I don't know where they're going till I get them home. Sometimes I end up having to move things around a year or 2 later, but mostly they end up staying where they are. It usually works out in the end.
Karen
Thats a talent I dont have.
Bill's pronunciation is just fine.........as long as there is no "r" in the word ;)
You know, I messed up. I thought we needed a new thread, but it was a different one we needed a new thread on. Anyhow, new thread here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1172539/
I'm totally embarrassed now!
