Member Trades list suggestion...

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

When I trade with members I always like to look at their want list. If there is something on their list that I have, I like to add it to the package I send them as a surprise.

I would like to know how recently their trades list items have been added. Folks are not as likely to update their trades list and if it were a few years ago that an item had been added it is entirely possible they have acquired the plant.

Could entry dates be added to the trades lists?

Good idea.

Thanks Cville ~ I guess I could always ask the person I am trading with but that would ruin the element of surprise. LOL

That is a good idea, and I'm fairly confident that information is tracked somewhere even if it's not visible to you or us as admins. I'll definitely suggest it when the tech team is looking at renovating the tradelist feature!

Thanks for the consideration Terry.

Yeah Terry - thanks! Good idea pod.

I've been wanting this feature also.
I also would love it if whenever someone adds something to their have list and it's on my want list I could be notified. That would be a BIG help. Please?

I can't promise a re-work anytime soon, but I agree there are a lot of good ideas here, plus some that I petitioned for a long time ago:

- a period "matchmaker" of all haves and wants - just send out an alert or dmail to let people know someone has what they're looking for (or someone is looking for what they have listed)
- an annual email reminder to update your tradelist (and review any plant, bug or bird IDs that you started but haven't yet closed); and

-a notation as to when the tradelist was last updated that others can see.

So here's a question for you who are interested in this: do you think these features should be a perk for subscribers?

We have always wrestled with balancing what we should offer free (because some things just should be freely available), and what should fall under the "paid membership has its privileges" heading (because some things take considerable time and effort to create, and most of us would agree that those things should be purchased in order to compensate the person or persons who labored to create them.)

One of the ideas we tossed around for a long time was making certain tradelist functions a perk of subscribing. You could still have a "basic" tradelist if you were a non-subscriber, but you wouldn't have the added bells and whistles.

Thoughts? Feedback? Other ideas?

I think a basic tradelist and a subscriber tradelist is a good idea. Can someone Dmail if they are not a subscriber? Or how do they contact someone about a trade?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Non-subscribers can initiate two new dmails within any 24 hour period. They can correspond on existing dmails all day long, and if someone dmails them, they can reply without limitations. We found this restriction was necessary because some people were signing up to access the member dmail system and send out those pesky "exiled Nigerian diplomat" wire transfer scams.

I think subscribers only, because as a DG member I am serious about trading. Someone not serious enough to subscribe is not someone I want to initiate a trade with. Seems too risky.

I hadn't responded as I didn't have an opinion. Since I have been a member, I have had good trades with both members and nonmembers. So would be o.k. with either choice.
