Garden Gate

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

could not find an email addy for you ...... someone from dave's garden subscribed me to garden gate for two years. not me! have cancelled the sub, and tammy at subscriptions@augusthome.com sent me this, in part:

Thank you for writing us. I show this was done online at http://davesgarden.com/coreg/gg.php They do have a note on their web site:

When you submit the form located below, Garden Gate will send you a copy of their latest issue and your free book, along with an invoice for 2 years for $30 - it's their best deal ever, like getting one year free. If you like the magazine and want to subscribe, then just pay the invoice and your subscription will be activated.

so, someone at dave's garden is doing not so funny things.

Here is the text from the sign up page. It explains that an invoice will be sent, but you do not owe any money. The subscription isn't activated unless you decide to continue the subscription. It is simply for convenience if someone chooses to subscribe.

Quoting:
I am pleased to announce a new exclusive offer for Dave's Garden members in the United States! Garden Gate magazine is a DG favorite, and they have partnered with us to send you a free (no obligation) issue of their most recent magazine plus a free book, 108 Easy-Going, Easy-Growing Flowers. Just fill out the form below and then watch your mailbox.

But, if you decide not to subscribe, then you can mark the invoice "cancel" and send it back--that small courteous action will cut down on paper waste and Garden Gate's mailing costs. If you forget to send it back, that's okay, but they will mail you a few more reminder invoices. You are never under any obligation to activate a subscription or pay the invoice. To stop the invoices sooner, simply write "cancel" on the next one and mail it back, or go to GardenGateCustomerService.com where you can cancel them at anytime.

Melody, I think the point Rita was trying to make was that she didn't sign up for that subscription, someone else did it in her name. Can that happen?

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Theoretically, it is possible for a friend or family member to have signed her up, but not someone she didn't know.

When you log in, you are shown the offer and have the option to click on it. When you indicate you want the free issue, you have to fill in your name and mailing address to the spaces provided. If someone signed her up for the free issue, it would have to be someone who already knew here name and mailing address. We do not keep anything like that on record here, so it isn't possible a stranger or someone who did not know her could have done this.

Someone who didn't mind listing their mailing address or a fake one could most certainly find the address of any other willing participant.

Seeing this question made me delete my entry entirely. How frustrating to end up on a random mailing list, even if the intentions were good. It could lead to a lot of useless junk mail.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

I forgot about the address exchange. That is certainly a possibility.

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

Except the OP isn't in the address exchange, so we're back to a friend who knows her address.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

That is the only possibility then. We just don't store that information.

Hey all just wanted to clear something up.

The email address you use to register for the website, has to be verified by you in your personal email account before we activate your account on DG.

If someone else used your email to sign up for DG, the only way we would activate that account is if you click on a link in an email we send to the email address we have on file. So unless someone has access to your personal email account, only you have the ability to confirm registration.

Once you click on a link in the email we send to the email address to confirm registration, you are taken to our site, and asked if you'd like to sign up for the newsletter and then you are able to accept or deny the Garden Gate offer.

Your privacy and security are very important to us. If you feel like your DG account has been compromised, as Melody noted, please contact us via the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page.

Best,

I had issues with the Garden Gate Magazine and canceled the subscription after the very first one ! the continued to sending me bills and threatening letters until I had my Lawyer send the Company a letter of rebuttal disputing the bill! and That took Two letters signed by a judge to stop the company from sending any more .

Garden Gate Magazine Is NOT Worth the Time , Trouble, or Effort !

I would Not Recommend it to my enemy!
