Chickadee checking out the house.
Miscelanious Shots #2 for 2011
Hope he chooses it, Jo.
Yes, hope he does. Did you make the hole small enough to keep sparrows out?
Karen
Karen :That is my biggest peeve about buying bird houses. Why do crafters as well as many manufacturers never read anything about Bird habbits.
I use a quarter to make the hole size, hole placement is important too. Its a riot to see the fat sparrows try to wiggle into the houses.
I have mentioned hole size to local bird house people. The public is unaware too. They just want something cute in the tree and think if they get a bird ist a thrill.Never mind the bird is one of those crude sparrows.
Dont get me going on the subject.
Wrens are very particular about the size of the hole....my wren house bit the dust.....need to find another one before they're up here....
The Wrens come by when the chickadees are hatching and tare the nest apart.Breaks my heart to find the babies on the ground.
Glad to hear you're educating people about that, Jo. Sad that the wrens push out the chickadees. I love both birds.
Karen
Me too. Nature is cruel at times.
Never saw that! No wonder the chick population is down....
love the mohawk!!
must be a great spot
Redpole or Rose Finch?
Red Pole or Purple Finch....not sure which, think it's the male finch.
Meant to say it could be a rosefinch also...I have a hard time telling the rose and purple apart. Purple is not really purple...it is also a red color, drives me nuts!!

Karen
Love the bird's mohawk, the house on the hill and the Easter baskets. Glad to know they aren't Spring Break baskets! Hope Charlie will love his football!
Sweet!
Thanks Pirl!
Yes, a purple finch it is! Lucky to have the bluebird.....some wintered down the hill from me at the farm, & it raised my spirits when I saw them......
I'm excited for you. I'd love to have bluebirds here.
Rare here too many preditors. They like open fields and hedge rows.
love BB's see them in early spring here - nice pic celeste!
Pretty! looks like an adult male.
Thanks guys!
Nice bird shots Celeste, love bluebirds. My sister Sue had bluebird houses up for about 5 years before she had them nest, but has had baby bluebirds for the past 3 years. They're cute, they'll all line up on her fence.
They nest next door to me every year....the house with all the cats.....go figure!
Too cute!
