I was watching the news.
Ad for a resort hotel.
The line that got me was "Two free Dolphin experiences included"
What is that?
We as people need to have our experiences programmed for us?
Guess just being aware of how amazing every minute of every day isnt enough. This is whay I have such objections to Disney.
WHAT a WORLD
I haven't stayed at a resort which has dolphin experiences, but I have visited one of them. It's not only a 'Disney thing', they've been around for well over a decade. The resort has dolphins, (usually 2 in a pen), sectioned off by the rest of a bay by netting. There is usually a ramp/ dock which allows the participants to enter the pen accompanied by a marine specialist. There you get to swim and interact with a 'contained' dolphin. Some people are fascinated with the experience of interacting with an intelligent marine animal..
The experience never attracted me because it is artificial and I don't like to see wildlife incarcerated. I don't totally condemn it because the dolphins are in a sense 'ambassadors' of their undersea world, as long as the dolphins are well taken care of.
- It's just not 'my thing', I prefer 'open water' diving ...
I abhore anything contrived either for my amusement or otherwise.
I agree with you about confined animals. The Zoo system was invented when the populus had no means to see animals in the wild.
Nature shows and safaries have made zoos compete for paying visiters.
I get so wrought up by the whole issue its hard to get my thoughts straight.
I watch the Animal Planet channel. There have been a series of programs that deal with people who keep wild animals in apartments as well as compounds on private land. The kicker is every show peaks with the beloved pet maiming or killing its owner.Hoo ray I say. How stupid are they to believe they can set up utter dependence of the animal and not have it rebell at some time.
I never open water dove or pet a dolphin. I havnt missed it believe me.Other choices thank gawd.
'You can change which pen the bull is in, but the bull will still act like a bull and gore you'. I love animals and swimming and definitely need a certain amount of both. I never like to see the large animals confined in a zoo. - However Zoos have done research that has helped wildlife and saved species which would otherwise have become extinct, they've helped to bring out the issue of wildlife in the political theater so their existence is beneficial.
Unfortunately money is an issue, personally I think all children should be required to visit a zoo once in their lives and it should be for free, we should all see the other 'members' of this Earth, it may instill some respect and a certain sense of responsibility to some which would otherwise not have felt it. - (ie. Maybe we wouldn't treat the Earth so bad if we all saw the nice things in it).
Oh well, ..it's something nice to hope for.
I've been hopeing since the 60's.
No sighns yet.
I sound dark and hopeless today.Still snow on the ground maybe thats it.
Have you ever considered moving to Florida??
- Never mind, that's a rhetorical question... LOL!!
Absolutly!!
and turned it down because spring in the northeast is worth the near death experience of surviving the winter lol
Besides summer in Fla. is brutal
If it were two free mermaid experiences, I'd be there.
It's so nice to come home from work and sit down with DG and laugh.
Ohhh yeahhh laughter.
Jo, you do raise some serious ethical questions....when is it OK to exploit animals? I don't like the idea of swimming with the dolphins, because I don't like to see them in captivity....they aren't endangered. I know they will live a longer life, but will it be a happier life? Cats & dogs had to be "domesticated", but they were working with people, not for people.....and it bothers me more if the animal is considered intelligent like the dolphins & orcas......
Remember the Orca that drowned the swimming pal?
No, generally ocean dolphins are not endangered, there are some species of river dolphins which are, but they are not found on the North American continent and are confined to a small, highly distinctive ecosystems. That's what makes those few types vulnerable to extinction - humans change the ecosystems either directly or indirectly.
Any large wild animal has the capability to attack and kill a human. From Ostriches to wild boars, sharks to Beluga whales...
-The more intelligent the animal is, the more varied, complex & unpredictable it's possible responses are.
Nice to know.
I am ordering the Lap Giraffe seen on ads lately.
Its a hoot and I cant believe it would attack me.
I believe this is a spoof thats been on the net.

Jo Ann - may I tell a joke in relation to the current subject?
d-mail for modesty?
No fun!
OK shoot.
I was just suggesting something private knowing what a "lady in the parlor and Tiger in the bedroom "you are LOL
It's not April Fool's Day yet, Jo Ann! Tiger! I'll tell Jack about that.
Two gals were out for a few drinks and then began the long walk home. They each really, really had to pee. They wanted someplace private and spotted a cemetery so they headed to the back of the cemetery. The first one removed her panties and dabbed with them when she finished. The second one refused to part with her expensive new panties but did remove them and put them in her purse as she looked around for a good spot to pee.
She saw a spot with a big wreath and a bow so she figured she could use the bow to dab and that's what she did.
They got home and each one went to bed.
In the morning the first husband called the other husband and said the girls must have had a fun night because she was in bed and her panties were hanging out of her purse.
The other husband said it had to have been a wild night because his wife was naked in bed with a sign stuck to her rear end that said: From the guys at the fire house - we will really miss you.
LOL Thats a riot. worth waiting for.
Thanks. It's too early to type fast.
I have awful carpal tunnel and will probably need surgery but it has to wait until fall. No casts in the garden.
Isn't it rotten how our medical woes interfere with gardening? As of this Wednesday I'll be allowed to resume gardening...from December. It's been a really long winter here. Then in May I'll face another three week break from gardening (but I can do pots if they're on a table).
Good luck with the surgery, Jo Ann. It's just not fun.
I dont do well with any type of confinement. Casts are a drag and luckily the woman who does the 13 minute surgical proceedure only insists the cast be on for a week. I wont know until July if I will need it. Neurologist said if it was left un checked the consequences are eventual loss of the function.
Pirl - I'm surprised Victor has pounced on your joke yet.
Might be family day for Victor
Yes, his little one had a birthday....hope surgery isn't necessary, Jo. Great joke, Pirl.
