She was guarding her new house here. Other swallows are still trying to pick their homes so it's a daily battle for our residents.
Daily Bird Pics - #387
Nice pics. everyone. Love, love your tree swallows Duc, your Western Towhee is much different from our Eastern counterpart.
Oh Duc, That's so cute how you mounted the Gilbertson.
Thanks Mrs Ed, we had to put them under the roof overhang because it usually is very hot here by the time the chicks hatch. (Sure don't want to fry the eggs!) Knock on wood-we haven't seen one HOSP here to bug the swallows this year!
Lily, hope your towhees are as friendly as ours!
Burn, Love that Pine Grosbeak!
Lew_Tex, Nice shots of all those beauties!
rockminer, The Wood Ducks are lovely!
Ducbucin, That first shot of the Tree Swallow is gorgeous! I love the feet on the Coots too!
This is one other one that has nothing to do with birds, I just went outside and uncovered my flowers and they are coming up! All except one of the Rose of Sharon bushes have survived, I did not realize I had put so many leaves on them. Our friends came over and the woman said her flowers were coming up and so I went out to check on ours. They are growing, now if I can keep the squirrels out of the new growth, it will be a colorful summer. They are about 2-3 inches already.
That last thread was AWESOME! This one is totally amazing too! Just wanted to let y'all know that .... drum roll....
I JUST SAW MY FIRST HUMMER!!!
Woohoo! They are headed north folks! Took a few pics that I haven't downloaded but just had to share the good news. Spring is here!
Teddy if you have a place to put those leaves and leave in place, lots of birds like to rummage through them for bugs.
YAY Elphy!!!!
Whooohoooo Elphy!!!!
Yahoo Elphy!!
Fab. photos gp.
Red-shouldered, immature. Note the pale translucent crescent near the wing tip.
Resin
The hawk shots are gorgeous. Definitely one of my favorite birds. I watch for the red tails here and see them often.
That's what got me, the immature part. At first I though red shouldered, but the coloring was not strong, and the tail seemed wrong for a Red shouldered. . Thanks, Resin. I've got to remember those immature birds are out there too.
Neat GP!!! We had flying over yesterday morning and and it was sounding so desperate. I have never heard the type of call/crying that it was doing before.
Great shots everyone...looks like spring is arriving for sure!!
Elphaba you are sooo lucky to see your 1st Hummer and I am sooo jealous and can't wait for ours to arrive!! Congrats!!
It has been so gorgeous in our area and we are getting lots of outdoor chores done on the farm...hope it continues!
Haven't been taking many pics. Did take a few of the bluebirds yesterday.
An Eastern Phoebe landed on the box yesterday. Didn't take long for Daddy to run it away. Had 7 cowbirds dogging the doves this morning. Happens every spring. I don't see cowbirds all winter, but when doves are nesting they are out there with them every morning.
Daddy on the nest box. Nest is just about completed.
Lovely Papa Blue, it's exillerating an experience to watch those little ones defending their home. My C. chikadees still trespass the BBs on a daily basic. Congrats Red on the almost completion of nest building. I don't think the BBs here have settled down, no nesting activity, that said this morning I think Mama Blue was trying to remove some twigs that were brought in by the Dees.
Papa Blue this morning.
My hubby saw something interesting today, he was going out to get in his car and he looked out before he opened the door, and there were two red-bellied woodpeckers on the upside down feeder at the same time! I did not know that they could fit under there like that, so I know the Pileated Woodpecker can fit, he has just got to get a little more curious to come to it. Who knows, he might be eating off it when we are not around. But I was told that I should cover my flowers back up until April 15, he said they were still too fragile and can be killed easily if we get another frost, what is your guys opinions. This person gave me some and has some in their yard. Do you think it is too early?
You might ask here too teddy

We really don't want to clutter up the threads here with too much Off Topic converstions.
Nice BB red!! I was hearing them all around yesterday and we even had one come down to check out the birdbath yesterday afternoon.
White-breasted Nuthatch...boy are they busy now!! lol
Granny, your little red-bellied is beautiful.
GP, wonderful shots of the hawk!
Red, beautiful shot of dad bb. It will be interesting to see if you notice a dove feeding a juvie cowbird.
Lily, pretty blooms with your bb.
Nanny, love that nuthatch picture-so cute!
This Bald Eagle landed on top of a pine and was calling the other one so loud that I could hear it inside with the door closed. I'll never get tired of these beauties.
Wow, Duc it's so neat that the Eagles came so close to where you live. I especially like the shot of the Juvie. The juncos are ardorable. Mine (Juncos) are so very timid and fast. I can't seem to catch up for a good pix of them.
Nan, those WBN are constantly on the move as if they were on some sort of steroid, lol.
Beautiful Bluebird Red and Lily!
Sweet Nuthatch nanny!
Ducbucin, Those are great shots of the Eagles! The first Junco is beautiful.
Oh those Nuthatch are so sweet!! Your really blessed Lily!
Lily, you are so lucky! I love those nuthatches. What a cool picture.
Nanny, yours is cute too!
Reddirt -- too cool. Would love a bluebird nesting here but wrong environment.
The cardinals are nesting somewhere back in this big thick bush. The male has already driven away two cowbirds, so pretty sure they'll be raising a cowbird again this year. That's nature I guess.
Duc, unbelievable pictures and story of that eagle! I've heard red-shouldered hawks from inside before. Can't imagine Bald Eagles. That's awesome!
GP, gorgeous hawk shots!
Aww that is so nice to see Elphaba!
