My one and only JM made it even though hubby tossed all kinds of snow on it...I was worried

South Hamilton, MA

I put a few extra iris divisions in a new place & it turns out that the new sump pump drains there. What doesn't rot will be moved, ugh!

Oh no Iris, so sorry!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

My JM is fine, it was safe under snow for most of the winter. lol!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Oh no!!!! Iris

Naugatuck, CT(Zone 5a)

Note to self, don't plant a JM where the walkway meets the driveway as hubby will snowplow 7 ft of snow on it.......I know it's my poor planning but it feels SOOOO much better to blame him. Does that make me a bad person???

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I just trimmed my JM in the front yard and took a walk around the gardens. Clems have buds.Last night it rained and now most of the snow is gone.

Thomaston, CT

LOL dem....no, it's easier to blame someone else, but I think you can blame Mother Nature for this mess! Your clems have buds, Jo? Wow......mine all have to be cut back to a foot or so, except for Silver Moon....but I don't see any buds on it yet.....

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I mean leaf buds.

Our sweet fern has the same problem with place, although DH planted it there. However 2 stems of it are looking happily dead (they always do) as the snow retreats. They will leaf out later. The irises were extras of a plant I already have, so if I lose them it won't be horrible. It just annoyed me.

Thomaston, CT

This entire winter has been extremely annoying......OK, Jo, I see your leaf buds....I'm thinking you must be way ahead with flower buds!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

My plants cannot look.

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Where is the snow melting? Eleanor

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Hi Eleanor! Nice to see you....i'm asking the same thing question!

Naugatuck, CT(Zone 5a)

Lots of green stuff now that the snow is gone....but all weeds!

South Hamilton, MA

Still have snow to go. One bed is free on higher ground, partial freedom on a couple others & snow cover on the main iris beds; the result of drifts. Snow doing its normal north to south melt.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

so far all the jm's look to have made it through without snow damage - just some minor deer nibbles. noticed they did a job on a false hinoki cypress - not happy - hope it recovers

Thomaston, CT

The yard is too soft to walk in, & there's still snow around....guess I'll do a plant check next week.

Thomaston, CT

Checked the south side garden where the snow has gone.....linum & dianthus are green....rose bushes look awful. Some bulbs are coming up, daffs, & what looks like Dutch iris......

South Hamilton, MA

I really haven't been out to look, although DH says are areas with the MDB 'Rosa Brooks' are planted look like it will do very well.

Maine, United States(Zone 5b)

I seem to have very few buds on the hydrangea canes...does the heavy snow knock them off?

My inlaws only live about ten minutes up the road and I could not believe how much snow was still in their front yard....probably 18 inches. Ours has been melting steadily but slowly, so luckily the basement is still dry (for now)

Naugatuck, CT(Zone 5a)

Walked around today, but after seeing pics of Japan, I have NO complaints.

Maine, United States(Zone 5b)

That's certainly true. They were saying on CNN tonight that the people there had only minutes to evacuate, but because Japan was so well prepared for a tsunami, the death toll wasn't anywhere as bad as it could have been. I pray that's true....can't even imagine experiencing something like that.

Naugatuck, CT(Zone 5a)

I have worked for FEMA doing EMS during Katrina, Gustav and Ike, I can tell you in all honesty that the pictures and the news papers NEVER really can get across the carnage.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Not to negate the horror of natural disasters, but just seeing the word FEMA brings back a memory of the Noreaster of 93. And it's kind of funny. I was making my way down a flooded street. I had a gray and white shirtwaist dress on (with high heels to boot), but the water was so high that I had hitched the bottom of the dress up well over my hips. A front door opened in one of the houses, a camera poked out, and the door slammed shut. Someone, somewhere has that photo as a memory of that storm. I didn't make it much further down the street. The next day the National Guard got me out. My car never got out, floated away. FEMA told me to suck it up, but the boat owners made out well. Oddly enough, it was probably the worst 48 hours of my life, but the memory makes me smile.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Oh my gosh, wonder if that photo is floating around somewhere in cyberspace????

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

It would be pretty funny if it was!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Don't run for office, Weeze.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

"and we have the photo of her lifting her skirt for all the world to see"

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Or, 'Candidate tried to get to the front of the FEMA line...'

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

didn't work

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Maybe you didn't go high enough. ^_^

Naugatuck, CT(Zone 5a)

LOL, another great government story.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

I worked for the gov't too., too much waste in $...

Thomaston, CT
