Visit to the Butterfly Farm in Phuket, Thailand

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

I'm not exactly sure what this display is for. But it held two small chicken (pullet) sized ceramic birds.

That's DH in the background taking a look at their displays. The folks here use the silk from the cocoons to make cloth from.

I think this is a replica of an outdoor weaving area.

I really wasn't expecting this, but since I was in need of a cat fix, I couldn't resist petting this sweet kitty. She had a collar on and since she was asleep in the middle of the day, I have a feeling she's in charge of rodent control. : - )
Good kitty! : - )

After the obligatory (and expensive) trip through the store, we rested outside the farm and had a cool drink. I happened to notice that they use these halved coconut shells to house orchids, so of course I had to get a photo. LOL!

Up higher, there were what appeared to be staghorns! I've killed everyone I've ever had. I can see why now. They'd probably be happy in the gh in the summer because of the humidity in there. Don't think I want to kill any more of them though. : - }

This is a close up of the coconut shell planters on the trunks of the palms. I hope I can rig something similar to try with them banana stalks I have out in the gh. And yes, they do produce eating bananas, although, EB#1 likes to stir fry them. : - )
This is almost the last photo from the B.fly Farm in Phuket.

Okay, this isn't a palm tree, but it does have some great orchids on it. : - )

This is the last photo we took at the B.fly farm in Phuket. Close up of an orchid in one of them coconut planters. : - )
DH drug me off to finish shopping for the folks back home, right after this. Sigh . . .
I liked it there, and I'm glad I was fortunate enough to visit. Give them a few more years and I bet their B.fly garden will be even better!
For other photos taken on our travels of other subjects that didn't fit here, I'm posting them on the What I Saw Today, thread in the Photo Forum. That is when I get the time. LOL!
Now I get to start working on the album for Penang. Yippee! : - )

Great to finally see a picture of you enjoying the trip! I can see by the grin on your face you were. Lovely bench, would be interest to know what the sign said too.
The planting in the trees are nice. Guess the coconuts are one of mother natures flower pots...complete with holes.

Another wonderful tour, SW! Thank you. I love those planters too. Great ideas everywhere you look.

This is the entry in bugfiles for the clipper. Your 131 or 132 picture really needs to be added here!

I've got one more B.fly farm thread to post. Only I have to turn it into an album first so I can find it again. LOL! : - )
Sheila, I don't know what that sign says either, but I'm really glad it didn't say "WET PAINT". LOL!
I was thinking of asking all of my DG friends for advice about which photos to post in the Bug/Plant Forums. Are you reading my mind again? : - )
You do realize by the time I get done with the three B.fly farm threads, and adding the info, that you and others have provided about what kind of b.fly or plant is in the photo, I'm going to be blind from looking at them all. LOL!
So I appreciate your advice, and opinions, and even though I'm moving slower than my 'puter today. It may take me a little time to "get 'er done"! I am determined though. : - )
So will you all take on my challenge? It's not a contest, and I know a lot of them photos aren't worthy of being included in the Bug/Plant files, I can really use the help. : - }
So all you lurkers out there, start checking them out. Write me a dmail or a post and tell me which farm and which photo you'd like to see me include in the Bug/Plant files. It would be an enormous help to me, there are too many choices! It's so hard to pick out which ones!
I still need to go back through and list the ones that we know the names of. It'll help me to remember them. Repetition does help me to remember!
Thanks for being a part of this process. : - )
I am truly honored by all of you who've taken the time to not only view, and comment, but also to help to identify the various B.fly's and plants. You all help make my world a better place. : - )

Tropical butterflies are tricky to id, but lepfarmer is our go to person and a big help.

Glad you found us Sarge.
Sheila, you are so right. The Lepfarmer is a wonderful resource! : - ) Remember how we both thought that one orange b.fly might be a Julia, but then decided it was just the way the sun was striking the wing?
Still plan on posting the Penang, Malaysia B.fly Farm, but had a photo glitch which I hope to have resolved by tomorrow.
Glad you are all enjoying the thread. : - )
