Oh Gita, I wish I could have been there. I love those type of garden show's. But like you I am sure I cant afford any of it...lol
Spring is emerging?
Gita, Thanks for sharing the garden show with us. That crane is too cool. So is the shrub, which is actually Harry Lauder's Walking Stick (Corylus avellana 'Contorta'). We had one but lost it to insects a few years back. So nice to see thinks popping up instead of that snow cover we had for so long.
So pretty and a releif from dreariness of TODAY with the rain- bleaaahh!
I noticed some forsythia today showing that hint of yellow, about to 'go'
I left home a few days ago to babysit my youngest grandson. Not much was happening when I left, but these pictures have me anxious to get home and look around for the changes that might have happened. I'm sure I'll see something popping by the end of the week and will report back then.
In the meantime, the pics here assure me that it's almost SPRING!!!
Roses, its that time of year when a few days out of the garden and you really notice new things!
Holly, it is pretty. I have some pics from a very late, light snowfall couple years ago; snow on daffs, and redbuds.
Great picture, Holly.
I know what you mean, Sally. That's why I'm looking foward to getting a peak at what's going on after a few days away. Can't ask my DH who didn't come down with me. He "looks" but doesn't "see". I left him to tend to watering my seedlings. Not sure whether I'll find them drowned or dried out.
What's that old saying----
"April showers bring May flowers"-----
Here it is more like the march deluges. Enough is enough!!! We are all floating away!
There are floods in some neighborhoods and they were saying the Susquahana river
is close to breeching....Talking about opening 17 of the floodgates at the Conowingo Dam...
I think we, here, have gotten over 3" already in the last couple of days.
Today it has been raining non-stop....The ground is totally saturated--the water just sits on top..
Took some pictures to show you....
This is a view out my BR window at my back yard. See how small it is?
You are looking at the bed I am planning to convert to a raised Veggie bed--but nothing has
been accomplished yet.....
You can also see the County storm drain right behind my shed.
That is no longer MY property. The shed and the bed are my back-yard boundaries.
All the black trash bags you see hold decomposing, shredded leaves from last fall.
These will all go into the new bed--whenever it is made.....
squish....squish......
In this picture--you can see the same "bed-to-be" taken from the shed side----
Literally under water.....I guess if we have a lot of rain--all my veggies will get watered just fine....
Granted--the back yards slope slightly toward the Drain. So--water tends to collect here,
as it is at the run-off site....
Theoretically, this Storm Drain was supposed to straddle both properties--but our houses
were built 1 1/2 yrs. before the ones behind us. People had erected fences and had
built beds, etc...so the Co. had to put the drain on only the back of me property.
Believe you me THAT owner bitched and bitched--and, I believe, he got some kind of
an allotment because of it. They no longer live there. He died. She moved to a Condo--
and the new owner put his fire pit on the drain and burns all his wood scraps in there.
He has been slowly burning up all the firewood that used to lay all along the edge of my
bed back there. Almost done!
He picks up all the fallen off branches from my Maples and uses them as kindling.
Saves me work!
Here is the water collecting area--before it gushes down the drain.
My shed is just to the left--you can see the corner.....
In heavy rains--the water from all the properties to the left, comes down to this drain in a "river".
The properties to the right--have another drain further down.
You know something? These drains, scattered all through the neighborhood,
have been like underground highways for all kinds of critters. My cats (when I had them) included.
I have seen a raccoon (twice in 42 yrs.) come out of there and ONE brown rat (once).
Not too bad!
Back home from babysitting last night. What a trip along the Delaware River! The water was rushing down the mountains with a pounding fury so the trip was slow.
This morning I finally saw some dafs starting to pop. I cleaned the shade bed and saw that the lamium (silver ghost, I think) is already green and ready to go. The Jolee Lilac, Common Lilac, Honeysuckle etc, etc. are showing buds. The ground is so wet that it was easy to scrape the mess off the top of the bed. Can't wait until I get the "Circle Hoe" that I ordered. Folks are saying that it does a really great job in really tight places in the perennial beds. Between this and the long hose that I will attach to the propane tank that I will drag around with my wagon, this years weeding might be a little less daunting.
