I came back from my HGHA meeting with a few very nice plants off the raffle table. This Variegated Dwarf Hawaiian Schefflera and creeping Artillery Fern.
Tropical garden # 93
Rita, nice mojito and I am glad the Philo. atabapoense is growing good for you. The var. Monstera deliciosa you sent me last year is really growing well and I am looking forward to it growing up and looking just like yours. Thanks again for it.
Ebay purchase from a while back, Philodendron superbum. Do you grow this one Rita?
Homer, I am an avid Aroid lover and grow several as well and thanks for the info. on A. robusta. I knew that Alocasia could get huge and it would be awesome to view one at the size you mentioned. I am yet to grow Sarian but it's on my long list of ones I just have to have;-)
All of yours look outstanding and please show more pictures of them as time goes along. I would say you will have some really nice size plants by Fall.
PerennialGirl, nice Stingray and HollyAnn, pretty Amaryllis.
Ardesia,what a beauty! Definitely a happy bush!
I love that Stingray alocasia - sure can see why they named it that!
I have the "camo" variegated A.Hilo Beauty, but it is cowering underground, despite a run of nice weather. Nights are still too cool for it, I'm guessing. I have one in the ground under an oak tree, and it's struggling, competing with oak roots. But the one I rousted out and put in a pot made babies last year and got 3' high. Hoping they both survive.
Rita, I have two purple baby lotus leaves about the size of a quarter on my Baby Doll tubers this afternoon.
RachelLF,
A. "Zebrina"?
Ardesia; I think it S**ks. Most of mine I have researched (on ebay) and bought through a few sellers like Brians Botanicals.
DYZZ, A. Hilo Beauty, "Camo"... VERY nice!
Homer, for all it is worth, I just heard about a terrific Ace hardware near South Park in Charlotte that is supposed to have tropicals. I don't get to Charlotte often (4 1/2 hours) but you might.
I too have ordered from Brian.
Ardesia,
How did you find out about them? I will definitely check that out!
He always sends nice size plants. He will tell you himself that sometimes a leaf or two gets folded.... I could care less.... Some people freak out...I want a stocky healthy plant; and that is what I get!
Homer, super nice var. odora and yes the Alocasia I showed is zebrina although the plant is commonly sold as A. tigrina, tigrina superba and as of late superbum. I will also through in a note being that you are interested in and grow Aroids. The plant commonly known/sold as Alocasia 'Hilo Beauty' is really not an Alocasia but a Caladium praetermissum instead. It's still in the family though.
Gorgeous Camellia, I wish I could grow them here, but we never see them.
Homer, I am really innterested in the albino.. it is beautiful.
Rachel, what is this? http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=8410438
My baby sting ray is still alive. Tiny, but alive.
Homer, I just love your A. Odora Variegata "Okinawah Silver. I picked up a few more plants yesterday. We bought several display plants from the York Flower Show. They sell off the plants at wholesale prices at the end of the show. I will post pics later. Might need an ID on a few of them.
Homer, I was in Davidson the other day for their spring gardening symposium and some gardening friends up there told me about the Ace hardware store. It was rush hour when we started home so we did not have time to stop and check it out. Not positive but I think it might be on Woodlawn.
I am with you on the healthy plant vs. one that looks pretty.
GAgirl: That looks like a beautiful Philodendron 'Rojo Congo': http://www.google.com/images?hl=en&q=Philodendron+%27Rojo+congo%27&bav=on.2,or.&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=univ&sa=X&ei=PSR1Ta3cJMactwep9NH2Dg&ved=0CDMQsAQ&biw=1262&bih=718
I had very large plants of both the Philodendron 'Congo' and 'Rojo Congo' but lost both to last winter's freezes. A few days ago I noticed a Philo in a container in a corner of the backyard that apparently survived the cold of winter. I think it's Philodendron 'Autumn'.
Oh... nice plants!
RachelLF,
The last I had heard they weren't sure Of Caladium or Alocasia,it was a while back though kind of like the Lasiocarpa banana weather it should be Musa or Ensete. But; I will defer to you! Only Alocasia zebrina is an accepted published scientific name, all other names are just "trade" type names.
Way to go Ga girl, very nice!
The Philodendrons are in the ground Plantladylin?
All the plants you folks have are awesome - appreciate you sharing pics of them with us!
Hello All!!
This is so exciting, reading everyone's posts and pictures. I will have to go back over them and reply later. The weather has been gloomy and the pictures I took came out very dark. I will have a do-over
In the meantime, I will try to start a new thread to continue with the fun!

My wife calls her Audry; From "Little Shop of Horrors". I had her in a grocery store in Davidson North Carolina one winter before we moved into our existing house. Iwas not going to loose her to a freeze. Looked all over the place to "stash" her. She was about 11' in diameter... well over 3' leaves... in a 45 gal.nusery pot.
Philodendron bipinnatifidum
Now every year we start from scratch in the spring; after she overwinters in the ground covered by a gazillion leaves.
I have a few pictures; two are with with a photo of a flower.
