LOL GAgirl: Re: jumping in the pool to save my Banana Shrub. The pool temp is 70º and that is COLD to my old bones but I had to save the plant! Right about now I think the pool water might feel nice ... it's cooler outside than it is in this house with the air conditioner on the fritz. It was 85º here today but tomorrow will be a bit cooler with highs in the upper 70's. The repairman is supposed to be here sometime tomorrow afternoon thank goodness. We have all the fans running in the house and I will be sleeping directly under one tonight for sure!

I love Spring and the light green colors of new foliage. This is a view looking up at a Celtis laevigata ("Sugarberry" Tree) in the backyard with Tillandsia recurvata ("Ball Moss") attached to the branch.

I've got winter annuals! Not tropical, but . . . calendulas and nasties started from seed in November. They're going nuts with the warm sun.
Couple of cannas on the south side of the house in bud, and the amaryllis are ready to burst - maybe tomorrow.
Oh, and then there are the live oak trees in full flower . . pollen everywhere!

Gosh.. You guys are making me crazy. I am going to go stare at my Alba and demand it to bloom tonight. :P~
I have things emerging INSIDE like it is spring, but outside we are just now getting buds on the redbud, lilac and forsythias. Nothing but brown other wise.
Story is that, if you raise a variety of colors of Koi in the same pond, over the years they will become similar looking to common river Carp.
For Koi to retain their colorful traits, they need to be isolated, for the desired trait.....
Dealing with pond-life can be stressful.
To avoid undue workstress, a bit of recreation may help!
The Lele'iwi Coast by Hilo is the most beautiful coast!
Lele'iwi is also a Turtle Sanctuary!

I've got 7 Phal's in the house in bud and starting to open. 3 smaller ones in the greenhouse w/ spikes. Guess that will make up for the Dendorbiums that didn't do squat for me this year. I want to get the stuff on the front porch outside, so I can put the Orchids on the porch. I'll take more pics then the light is much better for photo's plus more will be open.
Spicy Justicia is blooming outside and a little one in the greenhouse, Columbia Ivy Sage is blooming, Reed Orchids are blooming. I don't buy Annual's, I grow them from seed so no early annuals in the garden, but my seedlings are up so won't be long before they go in the ground. I've got 5 trays of 18 cell flats in the greenhouse ( I use the ones that are 2x3 cells so I can sow/grow/plant without having to transplant in between. I've already started about 15 different MG's also. Corkscrew vine, (Vigna Caracalla) bunches of Salvia's and a Brug seedling Perfec Harmony x Peanut, Jatropha Multifida- 3 seedlings and 3 more sown,these are the COOLEST things to watch sprout. Blue Shrimp Plant seedlings, the Bromarea hirtella seeds haven't sprouted yet. They might need a trip to the frig. Debra, you 'Seed cake" is sprouting I need to take a picture of it, and the Plum Delight Balsam seeds you sent me are up. Something else to you sent but I don't remember what it is. Oh, and my tomato, pepper, and spinach seeds all sprouted are are planted out, and sowed the lettuce, radishes, and shallots are up.
There's a huge brush fire south of us...over 10,000 acres on fire and I-95 is shut down and they are evacuating people .I hope we don't have a repeat of the 1998 firestorms. It was terrible. We're getting a tiny bit of rain, doubtful enough to help with that fire.

Things are really waking up down here also, the Bradfords and Redbuds are beautiful! And all the daffodils. Here are a few of my babies getting ready to do their thing.

Back to reality; Pink Azalea.
I'm amazed at how quickly nature can go from brown and dead looking to the new growth and blooms. When I left for my trip to S.C. a week ago the Acer/Maple tree was almost totally bare, came home to it being completely leafed out. The weather has warmed up quickly so many plants are a popping. We had a high of 85º here on the coast yesterday but today is supposed to be @ ten degrees cooler which I'm thankful for. No air conditioning! It was a warm night and I didn't get much sleep with only a fan blowing. The repair person is supposed to be here sometime between noon and 4 O'clock. My husband is coming home directly after he gets done teaching at 12:30 because I have to leave to give a friend a ride to the airport. I sure hope the air conditioning can be fixed today and we don't have to wait on parts etc.

Dave: Really pretty Brom's and I love that photo of the turtle that mjsponies linked to! We have a few different types of sea turtles and the Green Sea Turtle is an endangered species here in Fla. Sea Turtle nesting season runs from mid May through October here and we have a Marine Science Center here: http://marinesciencecenter.com/ that does sea turtle rehabilitation for wayward or injured turtles.
Wow Dave, the Lele'iwi Coast is absolutely gorgeous! And, I love that beautiful lagoon ... heck, I don't need to be a turtle to live there! The pink Azalea bloom is really nice!
mj: I have a Hatiora ("Dancing Bones") plant too, I will have to go out and take a picture. My Hoya's have been outside for over a month ... need to get on a feeding schedule soon. I see you have a Hoya polyneura the Fishtail Hoya. I've not had much luck with that one ... still have one from a year or so ago that's just barely hanging on.
