That would be great if he came, with all his xeriscape knowledge he would be a sure hit for those out here in hot and hot dirt land. No, I want the babies of the P Onion, as they are cool.
Plant/Seed Trade for the 2011 Round Up
Does anyone have a hen & chicks that they could give me a start of? I guess I could go to a nursery and look around, but they took our Armstrong nursery that was close to home out and I still miss it.
I'll check with EB to see if he has any or if he planted some Hen & chicks over at Mom's place next door. Won't be seeing him till next week though.
If worse comes to worse, we've got about 6 nurseries within five miles of me, I'm sure we can find some. : - )

I don't have anything small to bring, but I have 4-trees that were part of the builder front yard landscaping that I either don't care for or don't fit into my plan. One is a Magnolia, about 8-ft tall. Other three I'm not sure what they are, two are the same and the third is different but appears to be in bad shape. I'll get some pictures of them tomorrow when it's light.
No worries Earl (if I may shorten your name), sometimes people who feel they must contribute something go and buy packs of seed, but you don't even need to do that. : - )
I'm sure that once the photos of your unknown trees are posted there will be takers. : - )
The Magnolia probably won't work for me, but someone who lives where it doesn't get so blasted hot might could use it. I have seen some in town, but they don't seem to thrive. Even the ones in Riverside area don't look all that happy. The ones near the coast seem to be the happiest. I think it's the humidity factor. : - )
Looking forward to meeting you!

Anyone want strawberry plants? I also have epiphyllum to share. Not sure of colors but I have a magenta, a white and a white night bloomer.
I have plenty of strawberry plants to share...they're starting to crowd my irises here, I cannot have that!
This message was edited Apr 3, 2011 9:05 AM
LOL! It's yours and if you want more, let me know.
I would like to try some. Do they self propagate? I was looking at some at the store thinking it would take a TON of plants to have strawberries weekly.
Have these two "trees"?? flanking the window. Both originally had two trunks, the one on the right got so heavy that it was falling over so I had to cut one off. Now it's a little sparse and kinda in shock, but still alive. They have probably grown 2-3ft in 2 years. Not really sure what they are or how big they get, but I don't really like them and will pick something else when I can re-do this planter (it floods when it rains so needs some large scale re-engineering).
Yep Earl, one pic per post. You can use some kind of pic editing software like I do (Paint Shop Pro) and take two or four pics and combine them to form a collage of sorts, then post it.
Also, you should post those trees to the plant ID board. You'll get a lot more hits there I think. But if it was my house I get those trees out asap. They are waaaaay to close to your house. JMO
Cya at the RU!
Heather
My strawberries spread like crazy. I'll bring quite a few for you, Shermie and Quilty. We get an abundance of strawberries if we can beat the birds to them.
Any takers on the epiphyllum?
I'll try the epi if you tell me where it'll be happy, weegy. I'll also be happy to take some strawberry plants because those nasty cut worms about wiped mine out. : - (
Going back out in the gh to see what I have to pot up. : - )
Earl, Heather is right, those trees are planted way too close to the house. I don't know what they are. At first I thought they were pines, but then the foliage on the close up looks like something out of the willow family. I'd post them on the plant ID board.
I don't have a clue about the third one, except it seems young, and if you don't mind it being there, I'd ask the neighbors if they do anything special to make theirs look happier. The weather is so weird this year, it may be slow in leafing out.

O.K. Finally gettin with the program, heres what I have to share so far:
4 to 6 large aloe vera plants
oregano plants (how many are wanted?)
lemon grass (ditto above)
purple iris
african iris
yellow canna lilies
Rose geranium cuttings
let me know how many want these and I will try my best
Sylvia
I'd take a lemon grass because they are so good at discouraging mosquitos, but I already have one, well a huge pot of em. I also have aloe vera, I have two different colors of purple iris, LOL. Have never heard of African Iris. DH will be very mad at me if I bring in any more cannas, no matter what color they are, LOL!, but I am interested in a Rose Geranium Cutting. Also curious about the African Iris. Got a photo? : - )

You know me and putting photos on DG. Haven't done it yet and not in the foreseeable future. It should be found very easily on the plant files. Haven't looked there yet. I will find it and bring a print out of it to the R.U. Looking forward to seeing you next Sat. my dear friend.
Love ya!
Sylvia
Oops, you are right. I'll have to sit you down one day and show you how. LOL! : - )
Right after we get you that digital camera.
Can't wait to see you too!

Sylvia - I would like to try an Iris, whichever kind does better out here and is less kill-able, lol. Also the rose geranium sounds good, lost all mine more to horses than frost this winter.
Thanks, Lynda
Hi Sylvia-
I'd love an aloe vera, lemongrass and oregano. Actually I'd love any irises as well- my gladiolas are just shooting up now and I would love to add some irises.
We just moved into our house last summer, and the entire landscaping was pulled out so we're sparse- lawn and a few border plants. My raised beds are waiting to be planted, but we had a bad disease last year on most of my veggies (powdery mildew?) so I'm a bit gun-shy on how to control it this year.
I planted some calla lily bulbs last fall, the first bloomed a gorgeous purple but the rest have leaves and no blooms. We won't have anything ready to share plant-wise this year so I would be happy with whatever is available!
Looking forward to Saturday- I'm sure my girls will love the hayride, regardless of the weather!
Gotcha down SW! I have my epi's in the shade and they do well. They also get alot of water and I've heard they don't like too much water but mine thrive. Strawberry plants to 3 of you so far.
Thanks weegy! : - )
WIB,

Wow, you've really been busy Heather! Okay, I think I already asked for what I wanted on the previous page, but you have some really nice plants there. I'm sure we'll find them all homes with a couple of our members needing some help to fill in their yards. : - )
Such generosity of spirit. : - )

SW is right, I think you need to start unloading at her place Friday, or Thurs even.....
Hi all
Add to my list of give aways two white climbing roses. They are both in growers pots. Anyone?
And if anyone wants a sucker from an orange climbing rose I can dig up a few that have popped up in the front yard (can't think of the name but it still has it's tag so I can find out). The two would look cool twining together. ^_^
Heather
Heather
Please put my name on 3 snow in the summer, if you have enough.
Thanks,
Sylvia
I can vouch for the snow in summer in a plastic bag. Mine for Heather last year, lived in a target bag for 4 months on the table I use for potting. I watered that bag, but wish I had planted them sooner. They still made it, just not all of those cuttings/roots.
Climbing roses? Horse food, see my Lady Banks, taken with my cell phone yesterday. The few surviving buds have stamina! Believe it or not, this was nice and full.
Bring me the roses, please. I have lots of sun and Momma has the perfect place for them. If it turns out that someone else wants them, they can have first dibs. I love orange roses, but don't go cutting yourself up for me, okay?
Thanks Heather. : - )
QG, do they like cactus? I have them agave plants, they are more like succulents with sharp leaves. The worst the horses can do is get drunk off them, but they'd have to wait for the fruits? to ferment. LOL! I'll show you at the RU. Since it had pups, and I haven't had a chance to dig 'em up yet, you can have your choice, if you want them. : - )
I was able to transplant at least two guppy plants. They are annuals but have really sweet small, pink snap dragon like blossoms that flower as they grow up the spiked blossom. I'll have them set out so unless you tell me you want one, they will both be up for grabs. : - )
BTW, any unclaimed plants will probably go into a plant sale we are organizing for the Pow Wow to help raise money for it. Most if not all of the ones I've asked for are going into my yard, or my Moms. I'm hoping to get it pretty well fleshed out this year, so it won't be as much work in the future. You've all been great about helping out with my various requests and projects. I'll be paying it forward, you can count on it. : - )
Now I got to work on blue flowers. LOL! I have the seed but won't have time to plant them until after the RU. : - )

In spite of all I have said the horses eat, there are lots they have not. They did take a flower branch off the Mother of Thousands, but then left the rest of the wagon of succulents alone. Darn, I was hoping they would try the fire sticks, just to teach them a lesson. They did not eat society garlic, artemis prowlis, rosemary, paddle cactus (although they did knock a couple big ones over), the spikey dwarf orange trees, butterfly bushes or carnations. They knew better than to try poisonous plants like tomatoes and oleander and the frost got my salvia and lantana, but do see a couple green leaves starting from those. Their faves are definitely roses, queen palms and the broccoli/brussels sprouts.
I will be bringing various succulents. Mother of Thousands (really Millions) - including a bag of the rosettes she drops that are her babies, Something like a string of bananas (like string of pearls, some zebra-ish striped dark green plants and some pregnant onions (or her babies). A couple of those are so prolific, I have had to crack their plastic pots to extricate them. One would never guess I belong to a gardening site by my lack of proper names for these!
Well, isn't that half the fun of belonging to a gardening site, QG? You can always ask someone and post a photo and then you'll know. You just haven't had time yet. : - )
You know you are really bad when you can't remember the names of the plants, even though you've looked 'em up. : - (
Can't wait to see if you have succulents new to me. LOL!
I found a few surprise plants yesterday. : - )
I guess my poor Honey Locusts and the Wisteria just don't know what to do. This changeable weather.
To bloom or not to bloom, that is the question! : - )
Well, looks like some things can still be planted while others may need to be planted early if the weather is going to continue to be like this.
Should be nice if cold tomorrow (fingers crossed, that it doesn't rain), and for those of us who need shelter from the wind, well, we can hang out in the Bee Barn. : - )
That's it for now. I still have some chores to finish up.

Okay, I know I said I wasn't going to take anything but:
sherman99 I'd love an Empress tree seedling if you have any left!
dillansnana I'd love a bit of lemon grass.
SW I'd love a few wisteria seeds.
QG I'd love a mother of thousands.
I just need it to stop raining for about an hour. Time enough to get my backyard hauled out to my front yard. ^_^
Clock is ticking!! http://countdown.onlineclock.net/
Heather
Too funny. You can have as many Wisteria seeds as you want. : - )
I need to take a break, 'cause my paws are wrinkling. Boys never do the dishes as well as we do. : - )
Or maybe I just have higher standards. Now if only I had their stamina! : - )
Like I said the weather is unsettled.
Heather as I write it's gone from cloudy to sunny. You may get your shot. Don't know about Winchester, but DH said the temperature dropped from like 60 degrees down to the 40's just from Corona to here. We seem to be in the center of the storm activity at the moment. It will be getting warmer by tomorrow. (I hope!)
Even still DH is so sweet, he's going to turn on the wax-melter tonight, which will have the place all nice and warm inside the Bee Barn for us tomorrow. : - )
ES is out picking up the tables so that not only will we have places to sit and eat, but also room to lay things out on. Plants can pretty much go on the concrete floor.
ES is also going to wash them off so they will be clean and dry by tomorrow. : - )
So do dress warm for when you have to be outside, even if it doesn't rain, it will be cold.
Drive careful, and we'll see you all here about 11:00 am. Follow the directions to the Bee Barn. GPS will bring you right to our driveway. I don't know if I'll get a chance to put up the signs, due to the rain, they'd probably run anyway, if the wind doesn't blow them away first. If you get lost, just call DH, he gives good directions. : - )

I see my porch thermometer said it got down to 39 sometime today, and it has also been toasty in the sun - just before the hail came down. Drove east on RR Cyn/Newport mid afternoon and it was darker out there than here. Just blink and the weather will change
Heather
You got lemon grass!
