I don't have a bloom photo yet ... but probably tomorrow morning. All volunteers! LOL! This container has volunteer I. purpurea higes. Looks like the Pink Flaked higes. :-) I sprinkled poppy seeds in the container, too, so should look interesting when everything is blooming! ;-)

This is Meremia tuberosa coming back and I also threw some poppy seeds in that container too! LOL!
I. indica also coming back from being frozen to the soil line. Yay!

Dee - Thanks! That's a volunteer from my Fall vines. LOL! I have I. purpurea sprouts in all the containers from the Fall 2010 grow-outs. I was growing mostly I. purpureas because of rust fungus which is really bad here in Florida because of the humidity. The I. purpureas aren't usually bothered by the rust, but they sure produced a number of seeds that dropped into the containers! ;-)

Beautiful weather here for the last 2 weeks. Went from snow and highs of 26 to balmy 65 to 75 degrees. The groundhog must have got it right this time. :-)

Thank you to Debra, Helena, and Jackie! I really like the hige cultivars, too! I must confess that I am not a big fan of I. purpurea vines, but those are truly worth growing!
Well, I was out gardening. Actually cleaning up and removing all the dead branches and plants. Everything is starting to put on new leaves. I have Coral Honeysuckle along my east fence. So had to trim that bad boy way back. It's monsterous right now! But the hummingbirds love it! :-)

Jackie - Your Blue Silk is always beautiful! Definitely one that deserves to be grown again every so often just for the sheer beauty of it's blooms! Thanks for sharing your 2008 photo bloom!

Just came inside after planting seeds in several locations by my fences, Becky. A mix of seeds, some from you, some Rebecca from a couple of years ago, and some from stores. Can't wait to see what comes up. I should have some beautiful colors. You certainly got an early start with your blooms.

Teresa - I hope to get lots of poppy blooms this season. I always try to save the teeny seeds. I would be more than glad to share some with you when I do. I just toss the seeds on the soil and forget about them until they start sprouting. This year I hope to try some California poppies to see how they grow here as well. I never thought poppies would grow in Florida. Nice surprise that they do! :-)
Maybe for you. California Poppies are one of my favorite flowers, and I have tried them repeatedly with no success. Maybe one or two flowers at most. Even when I grew the red poppies a few winters ago, I got maybe a half dozen blooms before they died.
Teresa - Mine bloom and then die too. But last year I was pleasantly surprised that some of the plants had numerous buds and bloomed for quite some time. I always thought one bloom per plant! LOL!
I've never grown the CA poppies before, so it will be interesting to see if they grow and bloom here. I have heard they will. I sure hope so!!!!

I found this pale pink blooming vine in the same pot. I think there are 4 or 5 vines all growing together in that pot along with the poppies.

Well, that may be a small problem. I had the vines growing together in the Fall and didn't have the vines marked, so when collecting seeds, I had no idea which seeds are which. I have the pale blue, pale pink, and the pink flaked hige vine seeds collected together in a mix. Perhaps you wish to wait until seeds form on my current vines or take a chance on a mix of seeds? I haven't marked the vines yet for seed IDing. And crosses are possible since they are all growing together. It's up to you how you wish to do a trade. Dmail me. :-)

Becky, I have the same problem Iv'e no idea at all what most of my seed will produce as they are open pollinated,
who cares they are all beautiful! Just love these and the surprises they may bring! I really don't like to manipulate nature or even try to understand it, I just love what it does for free.

Teresa - That does look very similar to Rebecca ... possibly a cross that made that beautiful bloom! Glad to see a volunteer has graced your yard and is produced some delightful flowers! Jon - I am guilty of messing with Mother Nature! LOL LOL LOL But you are right! Mother Nature does a fine job without any help! :-) And the surprises (whether mine or Mother Nature's) are what keeps me growing these wonderful vines! :-)
I was able to get this photo of all three different hige cultivars that are growing together in a container. All volunteers from last Fall. You can see the Pink Flaked Hige, a blue and pink hige, and the white with pink hige in the background. :-) I am becoming quite smitten with those I. purpurea higes!
So partial to the pink higes.
