DAFFODILS and other BULBS starting to flower in DFW

Irving, TX(Zone 8a)

My Daffodils in the back are starting to flowers.
The back is the area that has more sunshine compare to the front. The front bulbs are slowling blooming.
So nice ...

I bought a full bushel of daffodils from http://www.kvbwholesale.com/?link=header at the end of the year when they go 75% on sale !!!!
I have done this for years and I always promise myself to not order them anymore ... but I have an addiction to bulbs ...

Ha! Fooled ya, not my garden! This was a road trip we took last year near Gladewater. Mrs. Lee's Garden. She had planted a boxcar full of them in the 50's. Four miles of paths, all daffs!

Now, a few of my daffs that look measly compared to drthor and Mrs. Lee :0)

King Alfred, this is the only one I know the name, because of the longer "cup"

Do they come back reliably year to year?

Do you mean the King Alfreds? These are about three years old, and so far, reliable. They are the last up and to bloom. Not sure if that is because of the cultivar, or because of their location.

If you mean daffs in general are reliable. Yes, those adapted for the south will be here long after you and I are enjoying the daffs in heaven ;0)

My daffodils come back every year. They get bigger and bigger.
Soon I will need to separate the bulbs.

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

you seperate the bulbs and they will try to fill up the missing space, chuckl.

True! I think it must have been good weather in the last few for seeding as well. I've noticed a lot of mine have jumped beds. It's is possible I moved them and don't remember. But when they showed up in the pasture, I know I didn't move them there!
Reminds me, I should mark them..bring the runaways home.lol

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I saw my first daffs blooming today while we were out and about. I think daffs are so cheerful and a harbinger to spring.

Wells, TX(Zone 8b)

Ive daffs and hyacinths in bloom along with some speedwell right now

All of my daylilies are sprouting.

Sometimes the squirrels dig them up and then replant them somewhere else...

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I believe that!!!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes the daffs are blooming here also. The Georgia Blue speedwell is putting on it's show too. It never skipped a beat this winter. I bet the daffs and speedwell look great together, I have some planted together but the daffs aren't blooming yet.

This is a double bloom white and yellow ...no name.

Then I also have one that is really tiny but pretty. I guess I have about 6 different kinds but don't know any names..just like the color in early spring. They warm your heart.

its a type of Narrciss.. I think... I believe that the way that you tell the difference is that the cups are shorter but then again Im not sure.. they are pretty no matter what they are

Arlington, TX

It's one of the minerature daffs, I never had much luck with them up north as they seemed to get weaker each year. I might try some again, they are so delicate and pretty.

Oh, I love that mini! So sweet.

I didn't think about the squirrels moving them. That would explain how they move beds!
I still think some are reseeding themselves. Here is clump that's growing downhill from my daff beds, about 200 feet away. It doesn't look like any other daffs I have. Almost like it's a bad cross or trying to revert. Still colorful from afar, but shaggier blooms.
The buds are strange on it as well, more compact and almost look like an allium bud.

That looks like a totally different plant, will you show us the bloom when it is fully open?

absolutely :0)

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

Daffs and georgia blue sound like a nice combo. These daffs are from the historic Webb House in Colleyville. (No, I didn't dig them up...got them legally!)
Edited to say :Oops.. I just found the real Webb house daff blooming. I think these are from Patrob...familiar?

Dthor, I envy your back yard. The combo of boulders, daffs and pathways is gorgeous.

Thanks.
The best thing I ever done is to remove all the grass in my back yard and create and Italian garden (that's where I am from).

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

That is a wonderful backyard. You don't have to keep fighting the grass.Love how the daffs are coming up between the rocks. Are the pavers set in concrete?
What part of Italy are you from?

Gainesville, TX

DR My daughter is a massage therapist at Four Seasons in Los Colinas.......looks like you might me one if you moved all that rock yourself.

Beautiful work
