Weather Forecasting Folklore, Part 2

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

Hope tonight is our last chance of freeze, but I doubt it

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

Isn't it illegal for it to freeze after the first day of Spring?

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

I wish! I don't trust the weather until after mid April to May Day

Joplin, MO(Zone 6b)

I don't trust it at all till the second week of May! I've seen it snow the last week of April.

hail was 6 to 8 inches deep here a few nights back... hailed so hard here Friday night that it sounded like the roof was going to come in on us... enough so my DH even got up & went inside the main part of the house.

Saucier, MS(Zone 8b)

Ok, two forecast folklores: 1. If it thunders in February there will be a frost in April. 2. When the pecan trees bud there will be no more frost. Here in South Mississippi we had thunder in February and none of my 4 pecan trees have budded. Hummingbirds are eating at the feeders and the robins have left. So, spring is definately here, however, possibly waiting on one or two more frost events. If I am fortunate it will not get my plants...

Caneyville, KY(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Southern_Boy. Yeah, it's hard to not get too overly enthusiastic at this time of year. But as gardeners, I think we are just enternal optimists! :)

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

Planted chinese cabbage yesterday and pulled out the frost cover. Didn't get it spread and sure enough there was a frost this morning. But I planted seeds so I hope I am safe.

Joplin, MO(Zone 6b)

we uncovered the plants yesterday... no frost today.. but its suppose to be very very warm & thunderstorm the rest of the week... so March is heading out like a lion for sure.

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

We had a light freeze last week

Joplin, MO(Zone 6b)
