I've been told that those that have 'dined' here before and those born here will return the next season.
No way of knowing that but it makes me feel warm and fuzzy about feeding them...
Weather Forecasting Folklore, Part 2
They are pretty little things.

That is one reason why you're supposed to put the feeders back in the same place each year. Or that's what I've been told anyway.

Here's a picture to keep spring on you're mind. The "Bruce" plums are going nuts already and I sure hope they know what they're talking about. LOL
Well it looks like you will just have to use your imagination on this one. LOL DG doesn't seem to like my pictures this morning.

Now that's a warm and fuzzy feeling!
My peach tree has quite a few hot pink buds popping out.

Did those pictures come out? They're not showing on my computer for some reason if they are.
Yep ~ they are fine. I've seen that happen on DG and then the next time you look ~ there they are. Not to worry. Have a good day!

Now they are there.
Have a good day also.
Now I get to go work in nursery and on the new veggie garden.
The lilac was budding up this week for new leaves, sure hope it isn't dead today after last night's below 30 readings. Dogwoods aren't budding yet and haven't checked the ornamental pears out front. I think I trust the Dogwoods the most.
Those plum trees look beautiful lizard...yay!
Daffs are budding up here.

Thanks .... I just hope we don't have anymore freezes or they will just be another pretty face! LOL
I noticed yesterday how much the horses and donks are starting to shed, so I'd say we are getting close!!!! Here is DH with our new 'pets'. A new mini siberian burro and a regular size one. This was taken when we first got them home, and 'Powderkeg' didn't want to get out of the trailer! lol That is mini 'Jake' with DH Richard.
Now that's about my size LOL
Yes, I think winter is coming to and end but the way it's happening makes me wonder how bad the summer is going to be.
Just never happy
LOL
Feburary left like a lion here.. it tried to eeek into march but the tornadoes & such went just north of us... therefore March came in semi calm... they are calling for storms this weekend again tho.
It lightening during a snow storm in Feb so April should be a doozy of a month with storms.
I didn't hear about tornado's north of you kyttn. Glad it stayed north of you. They are calling for storms here this weekend also.
On my hilltop: Saw the first robins yesterday, but no bluebirds or hummingbirds yet. Haven't heard the peepers yet. Nothing is blooming.
And since it's close to spring, here's some planting guidelines based on phenological signs...
When daffodils begin to bloom it's time to plant peas.
When the lilacs are leafing out cold-tolerant vegetables, such as lettuce, peas and spinach can safely be planted. Other frost sensitive plants should wait until the lilac's flowers are in full bloom. Plant cucumbers and squash when lilac flowers fade.
Fertilize when the forsythia is in bloom;
When the first dandelion blooms plant potatoes.
When dandelions are blooming plant beets, lettuce, spinach and carrots.
A flowering dogwood at its peak bloom or daylilies start to bloom or apple blossoms begin to fall means it is time to plant tomatoes, early corn and peppers.
Plant corn and beans when elm leaves are the size of a squirrel’s ear, when oak leaves are the size of a mouse’s ear.
Have Robins today, already saw a pair of bluebirds, and all my cardinals, titmice and jays are 'hookin' up' :D
Daffs in bloom (pea seeds soaking)
Lilac is leafing out - good thing I have lettuce and spinach out already...woohoo.
Have no forsythia, so...
Umm, my dandelions are already blooming - so time for taters now? Interesting.
Thanks for the fun guidelines - now back out to the dirt before the rain :)
crocus have been up & shining their bright little faces all week... will try to get outside for a pic tomorrow for you all. Roos are chasing the hens, hens are setting on eggs... birds are chirping more... It smells like spring.... feels like spring is almost here.. We are planting potatoes & onions this upcoming weekend. Forsythia is leafing out here... which isn't good.. trees are budded.. which isn't good... if we get another hard freeze they will die.
@Crit... ya.. they got some tornadoes north of here.. the whole system missed us for the most part.. we just got some rain, bit of thunder & a LOT of lightening. not much wind in it thank goodness... but i'm just holding my breathe for the spring storms... I'd bet they are going to be pretty nasty this year.
kyttn .... you pray for us and I'll pray for you that the storms aren't nasty this spring. But, that's the price you pay for being in 'tornado alley'. Been in one, seen lots, don't want to be in another one!
I have daffodils blooming, easter lillies coming up, iris coming up, roses leafing out. It's too early! It's only March!
i agree.. its too early. they will all freeze. well jonquils are suppose to be blooming now... as are the crocus... the rest shouldn't' be tho! I'm just hoping we don't have any Easter storms.. always get something.. We saw a tornado box at the Home Show that is made in Arkansas... its a steel box they bury in concrete in the ground.. driveway.. garage.. whatever.. u can drive over it bc its flush with the ground... seriously debating on putting on in side the garage of our house BEFORE we close the garage in & make it a bedroom... at least that way i don't have to get the kids out in the storm to get in the shelter... and they could sleep on our bed till time to go in. Just gotta convince my DH of that.
My brother builds storm shelters. I had thought about having one put in, but my neighbor just across our little drive between their house and ours, have one half way between us. They said come over anytime! It's not that far out our front door. But would be nice to have one close. In 6 years at our other house, we only got in our storm shelter one time. I used it as my plant garden because it was so ugly looking. lol
Crit, you did good camoflaging it.
We have a few wildflowers blooming. Daylillies are putting out some growth. Daffs have buds but none are open yet.
everything bloomed out this last week... i keep telling it.. its too early.. they will freeze their pretty little heads off soon.. but nothing listens
@Crit... yes.. i will, hopefully nothing bad hits us. The one a few years back .... our "May 10th, Mother's Day" tornado... went within 5 miles of my house. I was standing on my back porch when the radio guy started screaming "county wide, get underground now.. repeat get underground.. WE HAVE LOST IT, we have lost the tornadoes.... " he was hysterical, the weatherman was hysterical bc they couldn't find it... it was 2 miles from my house headed straight for me when they lost it on radar... two tornadoes collided to form that massive one less than 2 miles from us.. the smaller one knocked the bigger one off course... sending it south of us. I could hear it, feel it & see it. We picked up debris for weeks. That's the only one that's every really scared me... and i was home alone. I had all the cat carriers & dog carriers latched together, then a rope i could hang on to... all of them in it, my little baby chickies in a cardboard box & next too me... plus an emergency bob (bug out bag) prepared. never done that one before. speaking of which.. i need to get one made up since i now have 4 kids to keep safe...
That "Mother's Day, May 10th" tornado is one I will never forget the date on. That was my birthday and Oklahoma had more tornado's in a 24 hour period than ever before. I forget now how many.
Good afternoon all. It is soooo nice here! 80* and sunny. But boy is it WINDY! My donkey's tails sticking straight out behind them is how I know that. LOL Suppose to be this nice for the next week. Chances of storms too though. Can use the rain but hate our spring time storms.
It was beautiful here today too. Got lots done and had a great day.
beautiful yesterday... today.. COLD. 80 yesterday... 55 today. it was awful.
Beautiful again today. Raining now.
Our temps got changed and it dropped to 60* yesterday. Is cold again today and only going to be 68*, but is cloudy and possible rain, which rain is ok. Going to be 70's and 80's M, Tu and Wed, then drops to the low 60's Thu & Fri. OF COURSE, my little granddaughters are coming Th & Fr and we are going to the zoo. Sheesh. At least it will be sunny Th.
storms here.. 54 degrees... cold, wet & nasty. lightening was awful earlier... 3/4th inch hail.
We had a regular old thunder storm last night but it didn't last long. Beautiful day today.
Cold and rainy here today too. Had some hail. We really need the rain though.
I heard on another thread, when the forsythia bloom it is time to prune the rose bushes. Not weather fokelore, but another idea to go by mother nature.
They are starting to put on a show here. I love them. I like all the things that bllom before they leaf out.
our Forsythia is bloomed out big time.. has been for a week or so. They are gorgeous. Trees are all starting to leaf out as well. Spend most of the day outside in the 80 degree weather... it was very... GREEN! yeah! so ready for spring. I miss my flowers.

Info fits perfectly here! It's nice to be in tune with your surroundings and kind of plan your garden chores around things happening. There's no pressure, just a gentle reminder the roses will need to be pruned soon. :)
I've been trying to kill the one rose bush I have but it's a tough rascal.
The pecan trees are finally leafing out. Spring has officially arrived!
WhooHoo!
