Love all the recent quotes! I haven't stumbled onto any good ones lately. I'm always keeping my eyes open, though!

Thought For The Day #12
kwanjin ~ How much did you get for your brain? I lost my mind a long time ago, so it will be hard to sell it. Oh, I see, mind and brain are different. At least you have your mind.
"It's a funny thing about life'
if you refuse to accept anything but the best,
you very often get it."
~W. Somerset Maugham~
SW ~ That is definitely true! When I have compomised this issue, I got what I was willing to settle for.
"The world is wide, and I will not waste my life in friction when it could be turned into momentum."
Frances E. Willard
Evelyn & BookerC,
I have years worth of Calendar Books. They are referred to around here as THE BOOK, because I use for appointments, and for scheduled events here at the farm. Sometimes I even write stuff in them I don't want to forget.
At the bottom of every two pages, there is a quote. I also steal them from emails, the Farmer's Almanac and other books I am reading. Heck, I'd even use the ones from Reader's Digest, but I figured you'd already read them. Sometimes, if I'm quick enough I can write down a good one from a tv show, or movies. Wish I had kwan's memory. She get's a lot of good ones that way. : - )
Good one Shermie, may start carrying an umbrella, if it's rainy or too hot can use it for it's intended purpose. If I'm cold it can double for a cane. : - )
kwan, I lost my marbles a long time ago, but you should see my rock collection. LOL!
I can't remember what TV show I saw this on, but it was engraved in stone at a women's prison.
It read something like, 'If you plant weeds, you can't expect to pick flowers."
Can't remember what show it was on though. It was one worth remembering, even if you aren't in prison. I think it was the Mentalist or maybe Bones.
Okay, here's mine for today. : - )
"As a well-spent day brings happy sleep,
so a life well used brings a happy death."
~Leonardo Da Vinci~
Also,
"Do not regret growing older.
It is a privilege denied to many."
~Unknown~
And,
"Don't marry the person you think you can live with;
marry only the individual you think
you can't live without."
~James C. Dobson~
All of them good words to live by. : - )

This thread's title should be called, "Pearls of Wisdom"!
And I love all those "Pearls of Wisdom"! Wish I could remember all of them, or even some of them. Have to keep them on paper so I can refer to them.
Welcome home SW, I envy you your travels.
You have to make more noise than anyone else...if you are really going to get your reform realized.

No quote for today.
I did want to share the Butterfly Threads I've been working on with everyone.
The first link is to the Butterfly farm in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The second link is to the Butterfly farm in Phuket, Thailand.
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1162779/
I'll be adding the third link to the Butterfly farm in Penang, Malaysia as soon as I finish it.
I'm going to need some help picking out photos to be included in the Bug/plant files, so if you have the time, I'd really appreciate hearing what you think. : - )
RE: Pearls of Wisdom - everyone knows that a pearl is formed by oysters and other mollusks by a piece of sand or other irritant, which cause the oyster/mollusk to secrete a substance to cover the irritant, with a substance, which when big enough we call a pearl.
It occurs to me that Pearls of Wisdom are created in much the same way. A pet peeve, a broken heart, they all combine in someone's brain and they come up with the words that touch us in such a profound way!

Aw, heck with the pearls! I LOVE those butterflies!! ♥♥♥
"The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.."
Coretta Scott King
"Your work is the rent you pay for the room you occupy on earth"
Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon
I love them all! Evelyn, there is beauty that comes from pain, just like the pearls.
It's all in how you wear them. : - )
Shermie, you are a constant surprise to me. : - )
I loved the blessing, and may borrow it for a memorial service for a dear lady who recently passed away.
QG, both good quotes! Ones I like enormously! : - )
(BTW, I'm holding onto that bag of denim for you. You can pick them up at the RU, if you'd like.)
"Man should forget his anger before he lies down to sleep."
~Mohandas Gandhi~
"Computers are magnificent tools for the realization of our dreams,
but no machine can replace the human spark of spirit,
compassion, love, and understanding."
~Louis Gerstner~
That's why I love people. : - D

SW
SW - Yea on your technology quote. Even though it is computers that brought us, technically, all together, it is that spark of human spirit that made us friends.
Loved the hummie quote, Shermie! : - )
Way so true QG, I love the world that the computer has opened up for me. : - )
Sweet dreams my friends. : - )

Good ones!
Was looking for a good limerick to share seeing as how it's St. Patrick's Day, but can only come up with this old one.
There once was seven cats of Kilkenny
And each thought that was one Cat too Many!
So they fought and they fit,
And they scratched and they bit,
Until, instead of seven cats there weren't any!
Author unknown, recited & typed by memory.
Have a great St. Patrick's Day! Don't forget to wear green! LOL!

Ah, one of my favorite tombstone quotations, Shermie.
My all time favorite is/was,
"I told you I was Sick!"
Still LOL!
Guess everyone is taking advantage of the relatively warm and dry temps today. I'm pacing myself. Which is another way of saying "Goofing Off"!
I'd better get back to deadheading plants. LOL!

Just swiped these from an email, but lot's of great thoughts here. Some have been said before, but it never hurts to hear them again.
I especially mean that last one. : - )
Enjoy!

The happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts.
the heaviest thing you can carry is a grudge..
One thing you can give and still keep...is your word.

The pursuit of happiness is the chase of a lifetime!
It is never too late to become what you might have been.
Life is too short to wake up with regrets.. So love
the people who treat you right.. Forget about the
ones who don't. Believe everything happens for a reason.
If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands. If
it changes your life, let it. Nobody said life
would be easy, they just promised it would be
worth it.
Friends are like balloons;
once you let them go, you might not get them
back. Sometimes we get so busy with our own
lives and problems that we may not even notice
that we've let them fly away. Sometimes we are so
caught up in who's right and who's wrong that we
forget what's right and wrong.. Sometimes we just
don't realize what real friendship means until it
is too late. I don't want to let that happen so
I'm going to tie you to my heart so I never lose
you.

Love those, SW.
As I was going to St Ives
I met a man with seven wives
Each wife had seven sacks
Each sack had seven cats
Each cat had seven kits
Kits, cats, sacks, wives
How many were going to St Ives?
This was in a book of poetry and other various writings for children, when I was young. I remember my mother enjoying it with me....
As I was going to St Ives
I met a man with seven wives
Of course, the seven wives weren't his
But here in France, that's how it is
(From wikipedia/Mad magazine)
British poet and humorist Colin West wrote a satire on "As I was going to St Ives"...
"As I Went Down To Milton Keynes". The items listed are "a king with seven queens", and for every queen a prince, for every prince a princess, for every princess an earl, for every earl a lady, for every lady a baby, and for every baby a cat.
St. Patrick's Day Limericks (continued)
A leprechaun named Liam,
tries hard not to be seen,
according to history,
he's a bit of a mystery,
all we know is, his hat is green.
On the Emerald Isle,
we still like to smile,
that big old recession,
won't cause no depression,
we'll always have our pride.
O'Shaughnessy declared that his wife
Determined to cause him much strife
She fussed and she moaned
So he never came home
There's a lady who's got a good life!
A lass, one beautiful morn,
Fell in love with a male unicorn,
She purchased a spell,
Recited it well,
Now she's with him with hooves, tail, and horn.
There once was a young man named Sean,
Whose wish came from a sly leprechaun,
To be surrounded by dough,
Was what he wanted, so,
In six months he was born as a fawn.
A man, while drinking Light Bud,
Crashed his car with a sickening thud,
The car that he hit,
Had a warlock in it,
now he lives as a frog in the mud.
Three boys broke into the old house,
Whose owner had left to carouse,
When they found the spell book,
They just had to look,
And left the house dog, goat, and grouse.
There once was a man from Nantucket,
Who was poaching fish near Pawtucket,
He found himself wishing,
to spend his life fishing,
And wound up in his minnow bucket.
There once was an explorer named Stan,
Who explored caves in deep Pakistan,
In one was a ring,
A change it did bring,
And off as a tiger he ran.
He carefully recited the verse,
To halt his dread werewolf curse,
He didn't do well,
As you plainly can tell,
For now his curse works in reverse.
There is a small store at the mall,
Far down a little used hall,
If your life needs a change,
You might find it strange,
"Spells R Us" will answer the call.

A tinbender, while busy at work,
Was bored, though it wasn't a quirk,
On a tedious day,
The mind starts to play,
So he made limericks with a smirk.
There once was a disgruntled pedestrian
who's amulet turned out to be Circean,
he wished for a horse,
his translation was coarse,
as a centaur he was quite the equestrian
There once was a young man named Kent,
Whose postings were maleficent.
He claimed he was bright,
but he soon saw the light,
as a lamp he became incandescent.
Jeanie grew tired of the glare
her husband's head totally bare
'though he still walks on two
the wish that she blew
made her Jeanie with the light brown hare.
Deer, rats, rabbits, and moose.
Cheetahs, wolves, tigers, and goose.
'Round the channel he stared,
the visitor got scared
and decided it best to vamoose.
A lass named Abigail Nixon
messed up on the spell she was mixin'
Her faux pas ruined the brew
and fox paws she grew
as she quickly changed into a vixen
That's it! I have no more to say,
enough of this silly wordplay,
My name is Tinbender
that's all I can render,
until next St. Patrick's Day!
Truth is the only safe ground to stand upon.

it is cold and windy and i am just waiting for the storm to hit. hopefully it wont be too bad, otherwise i might be replanting lots of seeds !
forgot the quote:
When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. ~Author Unknown

That's why my plants are doing so poorly, I am pulling them up...LOL!!!
I am not waiting for the storm...it has been snowing all day! I am still working on the seedbox for DJ's RR.
Yes, cold and windy. It had started in LA this AM apparently, cuz they spoke of people dropping out of the LA Marathon and even treating a few for hyperthermia. Battened down the hatches here, but feel like the boy who cried 'wolf' all weekend as I keep talking about 'when it starts', then nothing. Have a lady and her 2 little ones temporarily living in our RV (where grandson was and is now parked on our sofa to sleep). They brought 2 dogs that we did not want in there, so have set them up in a kennel, draping top and 3 sides in a giant tarp that, in the wind, looked like the whole thing would become airborne. MORE bungees, ropes, rocks and an ATV ramp in front have made it more secure and hopefully warmer. One is a 'Shaggy Dog' and the other is a very small terrier type. Gave the little guy one of the coats (looks like a Russian winter coat with fur and all) we had for our first miniature pinscher, who really was small - not like the thug we have now, lol.
We blew away. I think we are in Kansas but when the dust clears I will let you know where we actually landed.
Stopped blowing and raining for a bit, sure sounded like a gully washer, but since it waited till dark to come, its hard to tell what the yard looks like or how those little dogs fared. Guess this means the horses will be let out of their corrals again due to puddling, GReat!, NOT! Just was getting stuff cleaned up and plants off the porch where they were protected from those huge eating machines. Looks like rain for the better part of the week.
I am well aware there's always going to be men who are physically stronger than I am. I think women make up for that difference in mental tenacity.
Denise Martin - First Canadian woman to reach the North Pole.
Sharon - I think if you got what we got, the dust has been settled from the rain. Where did you land? Jasperdale, on 'the other site" commented Sunday that it was so windy in Long Beach he though farm animals were going to blow into his back yard. I assured him ours were tethered....
Here is a floral though for the day!

I can confirm that, sherman. LOL
quiltygirl, sure wish I could have slowed that slideshow down a touch! I was trying to name them as they came up, and I could hardly get to the second one before it was gone!
