Isn't this beautiful...don't ask me the name...I posted it on the orchid forum to see if Laurel can ID it.

That's a Dendrobium speciosum. It's a lithophyte and grows into quite large clumps. This is one I had some years back, but it doesn't like the climate here and declined over a few years and disappeared. The image is a scan of a photo, hence the poorer quality.

Thanks Tropic, after all that I had a 'Duh!' moment. Went back to take a pic of the whole plant and low and behold the tag. LOL

Hi guys, I was getting caught up on the thread, and sympathized about those cold temps! I just started cleaning up the giant mess yesterday. Had late freeze at beginning of the month, adding to the freeze was an entire day of freezing rain, pretty much wiped out everything. Course tree fern was wrapped up like a mummy in thick seat cushions, topped with thick towels over the opening. It again lost all the fronds, but the new ones in the center were fine. Feeling rather happy I unwrapped it after it warmed up, then got slammed with another freezing cold front in the early afternoon, after I had gone to work. It was exposed at 29F from 1pm till 7ish when I got home to mummify it again. It took a hit, but looks as though the fronds tucked way in are doing okay. I was feeling pretty foiled by Missy nature!
Now we are 70's and 60's so took out the spoiled guys from the greenhouse to put some color in this otherwise frozen looking Nebraska corn field.
I'm typing on my iPhone so wishing you all well, specially the hospital recovery. Getting over walking pneumonia myself!

Oh dear, Randy. I have had the creeping crud since Feb. 2nd and can't seem to get over it. Sound like a frog and/or a freight train. Everything in the "greenhouse" is gone. somethings I had babied for over 20 years. about half of what was in the tool shed looks like it might, just might, put out again. Very brutal. Less that 16 degrees for almost a week plus the ice and snow. Broke all the records for the second winter in a row. Heaters going full blast in both places to no avail. Even things in the house look pretty ratty. Still hoping for your visit.

Rj, that tree fern does look a bit sad, although the new fronds look good. You might have to get yourself some Dicksonias, some of them grow up in the snow so would be able to cope. How about the baby Cyatheas, have you still got those?

Continuing the party; here's a new thread.
