The size of a Pileated is amazing,I was shocked the 1st time I saw 1 20 ft away..WOW I have not seen my pr.in a while but Im not spending any time outside either !!!! Teddy Im sure you will figure out what you can reuse to build a back board for the feeder, reuse recycle, and it wont cost you a dime, just some of your time. You will have one in no time..

Lily I see sunshine in those photos too !!! Awww

nanny , nice comparison shot .always nice to see the Pileated

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Methodical, great start. Those kinglet shots are just perfect.
Nanny, a sapsucker now. You really are queen of the woodpeckers.
Duc, I thought that one pic was a crow with its reflection on the water until I opened it up. That is such a cool shot!
Hack, you have the prettiest Pine Warblers.
Burn, love that puffed up Jay.
Everyone, very nice pics and stay warm. The snow pictures are amazing.

I'm still going through my pictures from the other day at Bear Creek, but thought I'd share this one. I got my first pictures ever of a Purple Finch. I saw some females at that park last month but it was raining and I didn't even try to take pictures. This male flew right across the path as I was leaving so I wouldn't miss him.

Nanny, you are soooo lucky to see a sapsucker, hairy, downy and the pileated!! I finally found out where a sapsucker was found in our area, but haven't been able to go look for it yet.

Teddy, cute wren.

Lily, your heron and ducks sure look quite happy with their spot to rest.

Elphaba, congratulations on your finch photo.

We still are enjoying just a couple Pine Siskins. This photo is from a few days ago.

Ducbucin, I already am missing our little Hummingbirds, you aint making it any easier with your pics, honestly, they are great pics, everyone has great pics. I think I am going to stop feeding the birds so often, the feeder has a good bit of mixed seed and I put some sunflower seeds in it, so that ought to hold them. I got a cotton ball and put a small amount of Sudden Death hot sauce on it and wiped it on the top of the bird feeder, there has been two squirrels who tried to get to the bottom of the feeder to get the seeds, they took one sniff and went the other way. Not many birds today, the hawk might be out, but it is a little warmer today so they might be finding other things to eat. I have been seeing several wp on the Squirrel Stumper, I think maybe they just wanted a change in food, I did replace the suet cake and maybe that will bring some of the larger birds in, the Chickadees and Tufted Titmice love it.

Nice ones Burd!!
I'm ready for Spring too. We're expecting 2 more snow storms this week.

PERTH, Australia

It's whacky to see all your cold weather shots, complete with snow, when we've just had one of the most ghastly heatwaves I can recall. I have cool envy.

Red Wattlebird in Banksia Prionotes.

This particular male Wattlebird is known as Mr Snap 'n' Glare. Over the years I've had cause to rescue his just fledged chicks from fates worse than death on many occasions. I do not intervene unnecessarily. He never appreciates my interventions and hates me with a vengeance and will fly directly at me, snapping his beak and veering off at the last second. He'll land on a branch behind me, growl with a "Raaaaar" several times before coming at me from the opposite direction, again snapping as he veers off. He may repeat this up to a dozen times. It has me in stitches and I usually stay still because if I moved he might accidently strike me and the outcome would be worse for him than it would be for me. His mate couldn't care less and will happily accept my presence and infrequent interference.

Silly wattlebird!

Mount Pleasant Mills, PA(Zone 5a)

Wonderful pictures folks. Ha! That Wattlebird probably had good reason to be suspicious of the intruder.

Gosh, you folks are a hard act to follow!!

Here is a Female Cardinal enjoying some corn--from last week.

Nice ones Granny!
Margaret, love the plant as much as the Wattlebird. Really great.
Nice close-ups Burd.
Duc, beautiful shots. Some people around here have seen Anna's hummers lately which is pretty rare -- not me though!
Buttoneer, so jealous of those super cute red-breasted nuthatches.

Here are a couple of more birds from Bear Creek -- a bluebird.

Nice catches Burd...I would love ot see a male RBW around. Here it is always a battle in the fall as to which one RBW gets to claim our yard during the winter. Last year it was a male but this year the female won the battle!

Margaret, that must be very entertaining....silly Wattlebird!!

Nice ones GG! I finally have lots of jays coming to the platform for peanuts...just too fast to get any good pics!

The gray days and snow don't help either!

I named this one Sweetheart here she is eating a midday snack of seeds, for some reason she is eating more seeds than suet right now, so are the Downy Woodpecker. She is pretty, but very flighty.

Great shots everyone!

Love snap and glare Margaret!

Lakeview, OH

Why are some of the wp eating seed instead of suet?

Marlton, NJ

They eat both here, just depends on what their in the mood for. :-)

BTW Teddy, that red-bellied woodpecker is a male (still a sweetheart though).
