I do not intervene unnecessarily. He never appreciates my interventions and hates me with a vengeance and will fly directly at me, snapping his beak and veering off at the last second. He'll land on a branch behind me, growl with a "Raaaaar" several times before coming at me from the opposite direction, again snapping as he veers off. He may repeat this up to a dozen times. It has me in stitches and I usually stay still because if I moved he might accidently strike me and the outcome would be worse for him than it would be for me. His mate couldn't care less and will happily accept my presence and infrequent interference.
