Forum Organization

I would like the option to put the forum topics on the home page in alphabetical order rather than activity order as they are now. I have a heck of a time finding forums that I haven't visited in a while. I know the name of the forum but have to go through the list three times before I find what I'm looking for.

I second that!
Would be handy.

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

I third that!! Has always made a lot more sense to me.

Ocean Springs, MS(Zone 8b)

I agree, I would like to see it in alphabetical order.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I would like that also.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Ditto.

Augusta, GA(Zone 8a)

As long as it is an option. I would not like looking through dead forums to get to active ones so I much prefer by activity..

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I don't know if this will help you, but all the forums are listed alphabetically by category here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/

We are talking about having them show up in alphabetical order on our homepage instead of changing around every time you come on DG.
If I am watching a lot of forums then it is difficult to find a specific one.

Farmerdill, yes, it would be an option. Those who like it the way it is can keep their home page as-is.

Joan, that helps some, but I would prefer being able to adjust my home page.

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

I think we're all familiar with the "Forums" option, Joan. That's not what we're talking about. What we'd like is for our HOME PAGE forums to be alphabetical.

Although I've learned to deal with it as is, I, too, would prefer that it be alphabetical - or that there should be an option for such.

(Zone 1)

I would love to have the option of having forums appear in ABC order on my home page!

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

I too would LOVE this option!

Waht would be ideal for me would be if you click on the heading "Message Board", it would alphabetize everything and if you clicked it again, it would put them in activity order.

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

To do what you want, Kelli, you would have to click on "Message Board" to put them in alpha order, and then when you want to change to activity order you'd click on "Last Post". That's because the database can't recognize the "Message Board" column as a date column. Not a big deal, but slightly different than what you asked for.

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

I would love to have this option.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

If I were to have to change the setting from what it is to what I want it to be, that would be more tedious on dial up. Otherwise, a usable idea.

On my old and slow dial up, I find the fastest and bestest way to locate a specific forum is to use the Ctrl key and "F". Easy to type the forum name and go quickly to it.

Using my fingers... not my brain! LOL

podster, All the years I have been on daves, I didn't know you could do that. thanks.

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

You can do that on any website or, for that matter, any page of pretty much any kind.

Yes, but be forewarned. It spoils me. Now when I look in a book for information, I wish I had the Control F function! LOL

And you are welcome. Someone back down the road was kind enough to share that tidbit with me.

ROTF, podster,

The same thing happens to me with other, similar, computer features that I use frequently.

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

Thanks for the tip, Podster. I had completely forgotten that the internet had a search feature.

Los Angeles, CA(Zone 10a)

Hey all, the optional alphabetical sort for forums that appear on your homepage is a GREAT idea. I'm going to add it to our queue. Thanks (-:
