Male Cardinal again.
Daily Bird Photos - Page 374
I had the little Downy today and all of a sudden, she stopped eating and was watching something, I could not see wht it was, but she was just staring at something. Then she started eating again, that was before she banged into the door, she is ok, but I was really worried there for awhile. Ok, I think I will just leave it where it is, they seem to be finding and eating it ok.
Teddy, maybe your little Downy was trying to stand motionless, so as not to draw attention to himself, because there might have been a predator nearby, like a Hawk. Your Red-bellied seem he had a lot to say to the Starling, in your previous pic. ;)
GP, love the look of the Red-bellied Wp, in the defensive mode.
Mrs-Ed your Miss Cardinal looks very pretty, maybe she was waiting for Mr right. That platform feeder is a hit, with all those House Finches.
I wish I had those little Titmouse coming to my feeder, he's such a cutie, Nanny.
Loonie I will have to wait till Spring before I see any of the Warbler, can't wait. Thanks for sharing it.
You got the shinny colors on your Brewer Blackbird so well. lovely shots of your birds.
Caught this Copper hawk across the street, spying my yard for a meal.
Thanks burn_2007, I love your pics too, I just hope that red-bellied woodpecker keeps coming back. I forgot to mention that I almost ran into him yesterday, I went outside to see if I coud get a pic of anything, heard the flapping of wings, and he was in the cottonwood tree. We are supposed to get 1-3 inches of this white crap again today, so don't know if any pics I will get. Have a good day everyone and keep posting those great pics! Hackster, is everything ok with you? Took this one yesterday after the starlings flew away, I think since they are eating off the suet cake just fine, I will leave it where it is.
I can't believe that I just posted the day before yesterday and already y'all have added so many fabulous pics!
gardenpom, really love those woodpecker shots. Your red-bellied's hairdo is priceless.
GP, I now have that song with line "slip sliding away" in my head! You know the nearer your destination...
Carla, love that pine warbler. They're tough to capture too!
Duc and Burn, always pure joy to look at your photos.
Pelle, CUTE goldfinch. I just saw a pretty one right outside the window and didn't even bother trying to take a photo b/c it's so dark out. I'm impressed that you got it!
Mrs. Ed, beautiful cardinal shot! Perfect lighting.
Teddy, seems like your having relentless winter weather. Those birds are lucky to have you!
This is a pretty bad photo but I was thrilled that I got it. A lifer that I didn't expect to ever get, a Black-legged Kittwake.
Elphaba, Congratulations on the new bird (Black-legged Kittiwake)! Nice shots.
Wow! You folks are smokin' with this thread. Too many to mention individually, I think they are all great.
Gotta go top off the feeders, snow coming in tonight.
amazing, Elphy. I didn't even know what that bird was and looked it up. there's only a few dots here and there on the cornell site!!!
Nice going.
I forgot to tell you, my hubby and I helped another little Chickadee. We were at our computers when we heard a thump, I got up and in front of the door was a Chickadee, he had gotten scared and hit the door. Well, I did not want the cat to get him, so I picked him up real gentle and took him into the house. He was ok, just stunned, so we held him for awhile until he started moving around and chirping, then we took him outside and my hubby had him on his finger and he got his bearings and flew. Not too far, and I went back out and he was just singing up a storm, he was so happy, and so were we!
Boy Elpaba, you are racking up the lifers this winter!!
Teddy...glad your little dee is okay.
Got to unload the camera and see what I have from the last few days. No new lifers here for sure!!
No new lifers here either, I am still trying to get more pics of the red-bellied woodpecker, he is so pretty. But he and she are very elusive, one day like yesterday, they will come often, somedays like today they will only come once or twice. I would put peanuts out for them, but I am afraid the squirrels would get them before the woodpeckers could.
A friend of mine told me that the Kittiwake was at the Lake Livingston spillway which I'd never been to. Unbelievable place -- hundreds of white pelicans, hundreds of cormorants, and in the trees hundreds of vultures. I looked out at all these birds and was sure that I'd never find the kittiwake. I still can't believe I got it.
Teddy, glad your chickadee lived. Was just reading the Great Backyard Bird Count newsletter and they mentioned the huge numbers of birds that die each year flying into windows and also the huge number of birds lost to domestic cats. Seems you thwarted both!
Yes, and you realize how fragile they are too, and how you could crush them if you squeezed too hard, and how they put their trust in you that you will feed them and not harm them. That little Chickadee was so small and so scared, we just held him gently and he just sat there in our hands trusting us not to hurt him, I thought he broke his wing, but he didn't. They are fragile babies. And I love them very much as evidence by all the pics I have taken, and will continue taking. I can't wait for the spring and summer to get here and be able to take pics of the birds that come then, hopefully my red-bellied woodpecker will stick around.
Nothing much going on here--yet!
Congrats Elphaba on the Lifer. Mrs. Ed, Nanny nice shots. Love the Wren.
Teddy, I am so glad the little Dee is okay. That is the experience of a life time. Whenever it happens, one realizes how small they really are and I am always awed by the ability of their small fragile bodies to survive the elements. Good job.
Loonie1, love your beautiful pine warbler.
Mrs. Ed, lol, we may hit 65 today-you're welcome to bring your birds out west! I just have a handful of finches left-yours are sure cute in that feeder. Love that eyebrow on Ms. Cardinal! I never noticed that before. Guess I should look closer. Great "almost" shot of the cardinal and wren-I'd be happy to get that one!
Nanny, I really love your tufted titmice. I do see the eyebrow on your little lady too-isn't it great when we notice something new on our birds?
Teddy, I'm glad that starling is sharing the feeder with the wp-cute.
GP, don't you just love hearing the eagles? So glad you're enjoying them. That shot of your red-bellied is just beautiful.
Burn, love that photo of your sister's. That flicker sure has a lot of red around the head. Cute little chickadee.
Pelle, your little goldfinch is beautiful.
Elphaba, congratulations on your new lifer!! Doesn't matter if your photo is blurred, as long as you can identify the bird you've done well. Very cool shot of the pelicans and cormorants!!
We went to a town about 50 miles north of us yesterday and walked around a waste water storage plant. We'd been told there was lots of waterfowl to be found-unfortunately, the change of warmer weather affected this area too. We did find a small flock of mallards.
I love the reflection with that Coot. And really nice capture on the Woodie with the apples.
I'd love to figure out how to pack up my finches and get the heck out of here. At 6pm tonight we have a wind chill advisory. -20 to -26F. BRRRR.
lots of bird droppings on the top of this feeder, so I cropped most of it out. ha.
Brrr is right, we here in ohio are supposed to get down to 15 below wind chill factor!!!! That makes me shiver just thinking about it. It has been snowing ever since last night, and we got quite a bit already. The hot sauce worked with the squirrels, they get one whiff and go the other direction! Was going to try to get a picture of the snow, but waited too late, can't get a good pic now. But believe me, we got a bunch and it has not stopped yet, it has not even slowed down. So everyone if you have to get out either tonight or tomorrow, be extra careful, it is slick out there.
Nice pic 2racingboys!
Duc, Your bird need room to fly (the large margin). Excellent shot of the American Coot and the woodpecker looks great with the apple.
Sweet Cardinal Mrs Ed!
Nice pic dm!
We'll be getting that snow in a few hours.
LOL Mrs. Ed. My squirrel baffles are covered -- they are also worthless. Is it possible to baffle a squirrel?
Duc, just love the Nuttall's Woodpecker! I started to wish I could grow apples here, but I'm glad that it's not cold enough long enough.
No snow here but temps dropped 20 degrees this afternoon. Dogs love it and want to go for a walk. I'm being difficult!
Sun came out for about 30 minutes and I took a few pics. Here's a goldfinch.
