I am ordering Obelisks and Trelisses ,wondered how many of the Daves Gardeners have them in their gardens.
There have been a few posted on other sites so I thought it would be nice to have a thread for them.
Do you take yours down for winter?
If not a picture would be great or pour thru your photos and lets see what cha got!!
This is my new one from Bestnest.
Trellises and obelisks of Northeast gardeners
Just what I hoped I would see.
The middle back yard one has a trumpet vine growing up each side. They were planted in 2007 and now cover the whole trellis and bloom.
The second one is a vinyl trellis I painted with house paints. It has a mandarin orange honeysuckle vine growing up the one side and over the other. Sorry, this is the only picture I have. The rose garden and other areas of the gardens in this picture have now been replaced with the large pond my wife built this past fall.
ooooh, great thread, Jo Ann! I've had such fun looking at these beautiful photos. I have trellis's but no obelisks yet, although I saw a really neat one I wanted at the architectural salvage place. It was too tall to go in our car with the girls along. I LOVE that one you showed, Pirl, with the clematis looking so stunning. I also like the one in your first post, Jo Ann, and Christina, Weeze and Dave have some lovely ones as well. Weeze, I love those roses on yours and Christina, the entry arbor to your patio is gorgeous. Dave, I'll bet that mandarin orange honeysuckle vine is lovely in bloom on yours.
Lovely pictures! I have an arbor and a few trellis's, hope to add more soon.
Great arbor and roses, venu. Your last post with the "old fashioned" look is terrific. I remember when you first installed it. The lilies look sublime there.
SOJ - you must have the loveliest place in town. I love your pond and your shed but now your trellises are so lovely that I don't know what I love best anymore about your garden!
If Jo Ann is ever missing those Smith & Hawkins trellises I think she knows who would have them! LOL
Jack made this one a long time ago out of leftover wood from other projects and it's still my favorite. Here it is Multi Blue and Belle of Woking clem's, which would appreciate more sun but I can't turn the house even a little bit to help them.
I need to get some....I was actually going to make a teepee type with bamboo....I need to be thrifty when it comes to buying stuff for the garden..hubby is a real stickler with stuff like that
SOJ That is a fantastic collection. Your gardens are beautiful.
Pirl Too bad S&H went bust. I was lucky I guess.
Venue You cant go wrong with lilies in front of the trellis.
They are such a neat hard edge contrast in a garden and against a house.
Has anyone ever found a contemporary one on a modern house?
Thats a neat problem to solve.
Jen, bamboo works well. I used old lily stalks for a black eyed susie vine in a large pot. Worked great!
I love the natueral materials.
The English woven willow fencing is beautiful.and they have teepees for polebeans and any climbers.
Good luck with your bamboo 's
Nice arch Celest.
I just found this place but am too dim to convert cm. to feet
http://www.mooredesigns.co.uk/garden-obelisks/
30 cm = 11.81"
120 cm = = a little over 47"
Hmmmmmm I do love the horn one.
By their very nature I think arbors, trellises, obelisks and tuteurs are old-fashioned, which makes them so attractive. The link about modern ones was interesting.
Jack bought this old cast iron gate for me from a friend who deals in antiques in the Poconos. We finally got to "plant" it in November and I planted Japanese irises in front, tall bearded irises (in pots) at the rear and alliums at the left side feeling they matched the ball tops to the gate.
Lovely
lots of very nice trellis shots here.
Real nice, guys! I'll look for some pics. Have never gotten any obelisks, but might. I love copper and rusty iron.
Victor your trellis from the Amish inspired me to start this thread.
I s there any chance they have an online store?
I'll try to go back and figure out exactly where I got it, Jo. Funny thing is, I bought one from them years back and when we returned to the area about four years later, I specifically went looking for the same place to see if they had the same trellis. Well, I found it, and they did! I bought a second one. Should have bought another.
Its a nice size. Was the Amish market with vendors ? All Amish?
There are many like that, but this one is a sole ownership. They had lots of nice stuff.
I was just on the net looking at obelisks and saw one similar to the Gardsman 's I bought. It had a great review and also suggested it for bird feeded station . Love that idea.
Don't forget to check amazon.com and ebay for deals
Thats where I was. I'll check e-bay
Amazon had some for more than low and Harth and Bestnest
