"Sarahskeeper":
Enjoyed Part Two of your medical journal/journey in The Enterprise (local paper).
Perhaps it willl decrease fear in other people if they know what to expect, thanks.
Where are the birds?
I put food in the feeder and saw two squirrels show up, no birds. The squirrels seemed frustrated.
Sarah's keeper....what is your medical journal about?
Triple-bypass heart surgery.
Oh Wow, one of the things that people have told me after having the surgery is how MUCH better they feel after surgery. Hope that's true for you too Andy!
Coming home from town yesterday, an eagle flew over the car, headed upriver....made my day!
Cool!
Nice Marilyn!
We have lots of birds and my camera is broke...(sad face here)
:(
Noticed bunny tracks in the woodline again....then I noticed the bald eagle flying low over our field. I won't go looking for this bunny :(
I saw a robin today, first in months. I've started to scatter crumbled bread in the driveway for the poor birds. They show up as soon as I return indoors. The deep snow cover is hard on them.
Venu, you can read my journal @ http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1148286/ Please ignore the dates between paragraphs.
Andy P
Oh, Pixie, I hope that one escapes.....I know the eagles have to eat, too, but let them catch fish! Andy, glad you're helping the robins....I feed my birds before I have my own breakfast!
Never had Winter Wrens before I enjoy the little stubbys
Haven't had one in years, & I usually have a Carolina wren, but I haven't seen it :(
Pteradactyl??
That's cool Jen!
It would have to be a real tiny pteradactyl
lol
You can see they are related!
Saw a great show last night on Nature (Birds of Paradise) what lovely birds. However I have found great joy in what nature sends to my garden. For many years being a control freak I tried to control nature.Bought a Martin house and terrorized any species that set foot in it,waiting for Martins. Finally realize they were not coming.VERY rare in our area and my garden is not open enough. Not even a swallow. Now I take great pleasure ewnjoying the inhabitants who ever they are I love seeing them feed their babies etc and all cotribute to the ecology of the yard. They teach me alot.
Great philosophy.
(Lowers your blood pressure to accept nature's whims.)
The only martins I've seen in CT have been down at Hammonasset State Park on the sound.....
My Mom had a martin house. The squirrels loved it after they made some modifications.
You guys have a really nice bird thread ! pixie, your bluejay captions are cute.
I am "borrowing" somebody's goldfinches, about five at a time, I promise to take good care and return when its warmer. I don't think they hung around me like this in previous winters; I'd have house finches on the thistle. The robins have been here on nicer days last week. I think I read that they stay in the woods when its bad weather and that's why we don't see them as much.
Jen, watch out for that ptinydactyl...
We have several inches of snow here, I don't think it can all melt in tomorrows brief thaw, so I'll be feeding a lot for the forseeable future. The snow is getting pretty cruddy with the safflower and thistle shells.
Thanks for letting me drop in!
Hi Sally drop in anytime!
Glad you and the birds will be getting a little thaw......looks like another 6", then freezing rain.....my seed bag is almost empty, forgot to buy some yesterday, probably will not be able to get to the feeder anyway due to the ice......
Yes, join us on the the other threads too, Sally!
Gosh you folks are nice! THank you for the welcome!
I flew up here from the Mid atlantic forum many times to have a look see and have been watching this thread since it began. I raised the question on our thread down there

Encouraging all of us to participate.
Judy
Thanks, Judy....I participated in our local Audubon's Christmas Count....loved your post about the eagle.....a pair has been up & down our town's river this winter, I've seen them several times.
Grrr the Starlings drive me crazy!!
They can clean out a feeder in a matter of minutes.
The MB looks like a real trooper though!
Mockers have quite the attitude! Have had them attack my cats in the past.....no mockers around here this winter, though....they're probably down at the coast....had 3 male cardinals yesterday! A white-winged crossbill was at a feeder in the northern part of my county a few weeks ago.....have only seen one in my lifetime.....
Hi people. I haven't been on Dave's in ages and I forgot how much I like it here. I'm watching a red bellied at the suet feeder as I speak. I'm so glad you're all still active.
Hi candy, welcome back! Lucky you w/the red bellied!!!
Mine has been absent for a few days....miss him!
I don't remember the last time I actually saw the mockingbird in my yard (months) . They're usually so common here. Maybe it just doesn't like safflower or thistle at all.
Throw out some bread crumbs and peanuts they'll be right there, Sally
I filled my feeder a few weeks ago and it's still full to the top. :(
Is that the first you filled it all winter?
